Title: Mega Millions lottery now over half a $Billion
Post by: SerialBeggar on December 14, 2013, 02:01:30 PM
It's that time again to fantasize about what you would do with half a Billion bucks.  :D
Well, not really after taxes (http://www.usamega.com/mega-millions-jackpot.asp)  >:( , but you know what I mean.
Anyway, as of right now, jackpot stands at $550 Million, but it'll probably get bumped higher with the inflows of players before the next drawing.

You forgot /pinky, which I would so add to any emote system for any MMO out there.

Gods I miss the plethora of emotes we had in CoH.  Sure it didn't have certain built in seek actions like sitting in WoW (like /sleep if you are near a bed would move you over to the bed, then sit, then lay down and then snore) but you could really put together a nice sequence of actions.

Occasionally I fantasize that large hoards of former CoH players from here buy tickets, and one of them wins, then that person buys CoH off of NCSoft and relaunches it, but then I realize that even with our pooled resources the odds would still be against us... :-\

The lottery here in Tennessee is up to 400 mill. I've been playing it hoping that if I win. I can go up to NCSoft and say. Throw me a number but remember I'm a cheap bastard. :P

Nah, if I did win and they said somewhere around 10 mill for everything (IP rights, servers, ect..) I'd do it. If they tried to act all arrogant and prideful though. Then I'd just bankroll one of the 3 projects we got going here.

Crap.  I'd been figuring the entire thing by hand for the last couple years.

Not that I think I have snowball's chance but I'm pretty sure that I could live very comfortably on a mere 200 million (post tax) dollars.

Ah well, I can dream.

Unless I win, that is.

Then I can seriously freak out.

I dunno.  You might have to skimp a little.

Y'know.  Only eat steak 20 meals a week, instead of 21.

But I know you!  You're tough!  You can hack the hardship!

If I won, I still wouldn't pay NCSoft $20 million for CoX.  It's just not worth that anymore.  Maybe $2 to $5 million. And that's if they can turn a server on and let me play my characters.  Then I'd near to hire some of the ex-employees to do a code audit to see how much of the software NCSoft has left.

Honestly, although the real value of City of Heroes may have depreciated, NCsoft is so large that it probably wouldn't make sense for them to unload it for a mere 2-5 million, given it could have potential future value.  It's kind of like rolling anew hero -- you vendor a bunch of trash from Wentworths to get that first million inf, then move on to the training/DOs/SOs, craftable powers, 41-49 recipes, rares, etc.  The point is, you get so much money/inf that you don't worry about selling off the low value stuff any more. [edit: of note, CoH naturally isn't taking up precious inventory space that would motivate them to sell it either]

Anyone that would seriously go after City of Heroes (I think) would have to do it out of love rather than for monetary gain/profit motive, and likely would have to overpay for it.  <dream>To have won something like the MegaMillions and take home a few hundred million (that I could never otherwise spend on my own), *I* would probably approach NCsoft (through respectful channels) on a deal to somehow bundle CoH, Tabula Rasa, Dungeon Runners, Auto Assault together for some stupid amount of money that could at least raise an eyebrow. </dream>

Well I am pretty sure its not that high anymore.  I am currently in London and haven't checked in awhile.  But in my home state Colorado if you win you have to do a news interview.  SOOOO I would literally crap in my pants.  So when the news asked me what I did when I won.  I would tell them "I pooped my pants."  Then I would buy a new pair.  And then I would buy CoH so all of you would also have to buy new pants.  Well I would like to buy CoH.  The problem is would it would cost a fortune to run the game and hire a development team and pay them.  But I would at least try to get the IP out of their hands.

The jackpot of $636M was won by 2 people, located in California and Georgia.

One of my local news radio announcers mentioned that it was opined that the Mega's new lowered odds was so bad that you had as much chance of winning as someone who didn't even buy a ticket.  My first thought in response was "that may be so, but eventually, someone still does win no matter how sucky the odds are".  Thus I maintain my resolve to participate as long as I have discretionary income to use.

Hmm, what would I do with half a billion?

Bribe North Korea into levelling NCSucks' HQ... and sell weapons to both sides in the ensuing conflict
or, take over a country and rule it with an iron fist
or, start my own villain organsation
or, hire some geneticists and start making lovecraftian monsters.
Or maybe all of the above, in that order.

What can I say, I'm a villain at heart 8)
So it's probably better for everybody if I never get that rich.

Well my line of thinking was more along the lines of. Let the community do with the IP and source code what they will. Only asking for offline play as an option for myself. Incase it ever goes dormant again but then again. I if I dropped 20 mill on it, I might as well hire a team to write the code for that anyways. LOL!

I mean if I had 400 mill, 20+mill wouldn't seem like that much in the long run. Though like I mentioned earlier, I'm cheap. I'd probably cry alittle while I was handing it over. LOL!

I'd buy NCSoft and release all of the game IPs they've shutdown and fire the CEO...

...or maybe send tickets to all CoX players and those who supported the game to South Korea so we can all rally under the NCSoft building until they hand over the CoX IP to us.

NCSOFT's market cap, it's worth in stock, is around $4.9 billion US.  You would need half to take control.

Well, I was thinking that I won't be the only one who had won the lottery since some people here have bought lottery tickets, I expect a few of them to have actually won. We could all put the money together and buy NCSoft ourselves.
