OK so here we go with Lairs again and I have to ask - besides having a dungeon crawl and getting a couple of perks and other fluff, what is the point?
Alerts are decent training ground for AT's. Lairs seem decent training ground for FF's. But, Where's the Loot?
Maybe/probably/hopefully I just am missing something but judging by the Wiki the gear seems like stuff I can buy better of in the AE and for not so much coin.
Any suggestions on a Lair to hang out in? I'm doing Viper's Nest just due to I think it's the highest level one that doesn't require a completed story arc to get to and it's been plenty challenging.
Some lvl 5 mods drop, which is decent, and I guess there are AF's that can drop in at least one of the Lairs. Other than that I'm not getting what the reward vs. risk is with them.

Mostly I do them for the fun of it but then again, I never been and thus never gotten use to getting good gear drops in stuff like that. Usually my luck in lairs and their equivalent in games get me stuff that is cheap or common or in some case near complete useless and worthless. Thus my fun tied to loot drops were not being fulfilled with extra added when others seem to get the good stuff i.e doing a TF and a one player gets 4 purple drops in a mission and by the end walks away with half a dozen or more and near or beyond a billion worth of stuff and I get stuff that barely worth the trip to the market ("Oh great, I should be hopping up and down with excitment 8 Pacing the Turtle drops after put in that much work while team mate over there is saying how one billion is easy to make. Sure is, with that many purple drops anyone can make a billion. Yay.") By the time I moved to CO, I stopped worrying about loot drops.
But looking into it from a loot stand point, CO lairs do seem cheap and stingy with the good stuff. But like I did with COX, probably put it all together once I stop playing and see the true risk vs reward thing. Right now looking at it, for me, it's not much different i nthe risk reward that I ended up with in COX. COX had potential to have bigger pay off but it was all based on rolls and since the rolls really didnt really go too much in my favor, the risk vs reward thing was meh overall. And if add the fact that many got purple drops and the good exspensive drops doing the same thing but me walking away empty handed, it would have been my risk was the same as their but I ended up totally ripped off, far worse than any lair in CO. But like I said, that looking at data that have been already put together from COX vs in process data from CO so it may end up differently.
Viper's Nest can be fun. It's got a decent dungeon crawl feel to it. In small groups the mobs aren't so bad but there's some amped up spots that require a lil alertness. There's decent bosses, cutscenes. Entrance to the place is easy, too - no story arcs to complete.
As for loot so far.. there's been a decent amount of blue vendor trash that sells for G's and I sold one vehicle mod from there for 45g in minutes in the AE.
I dunno what I was expecting. The (nice) gear drops do seem to be not so great. All those fancy item names, (http://www.champions-online-wiki.com/wiki/Ripper)you have to defeat a big boss, and I can get better for a few G's in the AE.
*shrug* Just seems like loot table update time unless there is something I'm missing.

it's probably time for loot update.
Have you tried Viper's Nest solo?
Viper's seems like a good place to test a build. I've never been in there except for solo and I'm using my first FF build ever that I need to reroll from the starter power on up so I dunno how hard the place seems to anyone else and am curious. It would destroy my AT's I'm pretty sure.
If you haven't been - there are 2-3 Legendaries that hang out there and they don't fight alone. There is a decent dungeon crawl to get through to them. When I try to rush I lose stars. It takes time - did for me anyway, but for a first time experience it was worth it and I've since gone back for more helpings.
I'm hoping after the reroll the place will be easier but as-is it seems like a decent challenge.
Even though the Legendary drops suck and seem rare you can say you did it (soloed the place) *shrug* that's how I looked at it. The vendor loot isn't bad, either. Blue stuff that can sell for G's & decent mod drops for your newbs & the AE.
If you've been, you already know all this but if not it's ~ the nw corner of Monster Island if I remember right.
Yeah did the viper nest solo. The key is to not be in a rush and stay alive. Once those two things are set, victory is all but guaranteed especially when fighting the legendaries. Oh yeah, block is ya friend.
It's a good place to challenge a build and see how it does. Usually most of my builds go through a few phaes of "challenging and tweaking" first it starts off with getting through MC without choosing any passives or powers beyond level 8. It test to survive based on good old tactics. Second phase is soloing Stronghold and Whiteout. More about fighting large groups of minions and fighting in KB heavy situations. Then Go to Canada and solo the northern zombie guy zone event (when it dotn bug out.) That is testing fighting larger group of enemies and patience with Super villain in the mix. Then Serpant Lantern for a breeze run, then take down Megaterak solo for excercise in fighting a Legendary and whittling it down while surviving. Then usually Resistance to fill in XP points, then the final test of Viper Nest to put what have been learned into actual practice. Every now and then may throw in Dr Moreue's lair and or Telios tower lair in there although completetion havent been the main goal, just extra credit for surviving large group of mobs and fighting a legendary.
I'm glad I'm not the only one that can't rush Viper's.
It's been fun hanging out there but now that you mention Resistance.. I'm curious to fight a Mega D with the new guy.
Didn't get Dark Speed but the Mega D's went down. Can check this off the list of things to try.

yeah I love battling those things.
Hello, Andrith.
Sorry for the /flip to the person who invented the fight for this guy. Just sour grapes because I had to leave so soon before (getting truly frustrated) figuring out how to survive it.
