I'm not putting this in the Champions board since this isn't exactly Champions related, but basically the question is: since the closure of City of Heroes, what have you done with some of your old character concepts?
Do they sit in your mind and play games while you're asleep? Have you re-imagined them for some tabletop RPG campaign you're in? Did you roll them back up in Champions or make them in some other MMO?
And just how well or poorly has it been working out for you?
For me, a friend and I have taken our City characters (and actually a few others) and migrated them to a story series we've been writing of the Urban Fantasy persuasion. It's worked out fairly well for me since writing actual stories frees up a lot of the restrictions the game mechanics left me with, not to mention that we've been able to build our own setting from the ground up and let our characters truly be heavy hitters in the world.
Though I personally can't help but note a lot of elements from The Secret World being involved. Though, on the flipside, The Secret World pretty much took everything from pulp novels, HP Lovecraft and other horror writers, and urban fantasy stories and made THAT into an MMO.
My heroes are kept safely on my computer at home. I have them in screenshots, videos and on Sentinel+. Whenever I get lonely for them, I can see them again. It's not the same as playing but at least they are not "dead". They are alive in there waiting for a new home.
I used the Sentinel thing too, but when you said you can "see" them, you mean only visually with screenshots and vids right? Or did you mean you can do something with the Sentinel files?

You obviously haven't been here yet - http://www.cohtitan.com/forum/index.php/board,174.0.html :P
So far, a few have scouted out The Secret World, but the Templars were obnoxious and the Dragon Lady put Yoru-hime in therapy before she made it out of the tutorial. :gonk:
I'm considering the possibility of some of them visiting Eorzea (FF14), but I'm not sure just how pigeon-holed into a story and a look they'll be there. I can work my way around a lot in my mind, but if it's too obvious that your character's backstory is pre-canned, then Yoru-hime and company just wouldn't fit in.
Yoru-hime: Oh, just TRY and make me wear elf ears. I've got a Dark Servant and unresolved anger issues. Bring it on. >:(
... they're still looking.
In my head waiting for their untold origin stories and adventures in a new world of my own making to be written down.
And some screenshots... :'(
One did venture over to CO for a second, but was unimpressed and wandered off somewhere.

I meant with the videos and screenshots. But I do have the Icon program too. I just feel too sad flying around an empty city so I don't go there much.
they are all safely stored in the vast, echoing, cavern that is my mind. but a few of them have made it into other games.
Let's see:
I have two that have become Starfleet Admirals.
One has become a minstral in Middle earth
Three have made their way into The Secret World.
Several pop up in my short stories.
There are a few that lurk, and sulk, and refuse to come out and play because, frankly, they really don't fit anywhere else.
they are all still with me.
now if I can only get them to stop shouting 'HELLO' and making my head ring.
Most have "Gone Fishin"
The rads have "Gone Fission"
So far only one has made his way out of my hard drive. The American Pit Bull, Claws/Willpower Scrapper extraordinaire, has made his way into a weekly Mutants&Masterminds campaign. Playing in a roleplaying campaign of course offers very different challenges from an MMO -- there's much less fighting, enemies tend to be stronger and more dynamic, and almost no repetitiveness. And any system has plusses and minuses. M&M forces players to have roughly identical defense and offense caps, so it's not like the difference between a Fire Blaster and a Willpower Scrapper, AND certain defenses are paired under the caps -- so one cannot be "tougher than normal" against both physical and mental attacks, for example. No "Willpower is also strong vs Psi" for M&M players. Furthermore, our GM has sharply restricted regeneration. On the other hand, the game allows you to buy extra chances to critically hit, which is perfect for a Scrapper, and our imagination allows him to have the Bite powerset he never had in COH. Plus he can finally grapple. Also, Willpower's "Heightened Senses" power, which only added typed defense in COH, can do a LOT more in a roleplaying game.
So although I have to adjust to not necessarily being surrounded by endless hordes who can't hurt him, I have been having a pretty good time with him. Of course, I could be doing that whether or not COH was still around.
One of them went to Champions and actually came out a bit better in the long run; one went to Champions and didn't fare so well.
My main character and namesake is quite literally floating in limbo, cut off from everyone and everything in his extra-dimensional base of operations, searching for some sign that he's not alone.
Every other character is just mothballed, waiting to be used elsewhere.
Okay... so... this is weird... but bear with me...
My characters are playing World of Warcraft. I don't mean they are characters IN WoW... I mean they are actually playing it.
My latest Tournament pits all my CoH characters against each other in WoW, but since it's a really unnatural transition for some of them, rather than RP them in my mind as actual WoW characters in the WoW world... I'm ... well... I'm imagining them as controlling the WoW characters and competing with each other that way.
So... my current Tournament is my old Tournament competing against each other... in a Tournament.
And, just so you know, I have a restraining order placed against the men in white coats approaching within 75 yards of me... so don't bother calling them.
A lot of my characters were characters that I have used in RP with some friends. We game every weekend and so when I get to play them again, it's nice. I always saw Paragon as sort of what they did in their "off" time. I always joke they all live in my "green room" in my head. They're all as real as they can be to me. But I miss playing them. I deleted every last one of them and built two for the closure, because I couldn't bear to leave any of them "behind". And it was hard enough leaving the ones that I specifically built for it. As for the two left behind, I see them lingering all shade like in Paragon and Rogue Isles respectively.
all my characters are waiting for me to be able to team with them again. my main has been taken into the champions univ. temporarily.
For the most part, my character remains in my mind and through Icon (when I need a fix). Other than that, the character name only has made it's way to a couple of games and they are:
The Secret World
NeverWinter
Champions
I will never be able to recreate the character I made in City of Heroes. Took me 6 years of playing to perfect her. Sometimes I think I can picture her tapping her foot now and again (e/waiting)as if to say "Well? Have you figured out where we're going yet?"

I like this, very meta... seems like something I would come up with on too little sleep
My characters are still right in Paragon City and the Rogue Isles, where they're having their assorted adventures off-screen. I treated CoH's closing like the end of a television series - the world depicted keeps on turning (well, usually; I'm aware there are some exceptions), even if we can't watch it anymore.
I made heroic analogs of Thunder Glove and Dr. Bodog on Champions, but they didn't feel the same. I can't make anything even remotely close to them anywhere else. But even if I managed to find a place to remake them, those would be alternate-universe versions, not the "originals".
All but one of my characters died when the world ended... but that one character went back in time to change that from happening. So right now we're just waiting for him to finish his task and rewrite history so the others live again!
And that's the story I plan to go with once the "behind the scenes" people working on getting the coh client working again give us something playable.
For the successors (assuming I decide I like what they've done) it will be all new stories and all new characters.

One of the main aims of the "Heroes and Villains" project is to let players recreate the look and feel of their characters reasonably closely.
I had mine all saved on my PC, but then my house burned down and destroyed my PC. However, a friend managed to rescue all my data from the HD and store it all on an external. YAY! But, a few weeks ago, that external died (bad controller) so I lost them all... again. My friend is trying to rescue all the data again, but I don't hold out much hope this time.
There are lots of cloud providers that will give you enough free space to store your Sentinel+ files. If you get your files back, upload them somewhere.

The extent of the backstory for new people is that you are an adventurer heading towards whatever city matches your class, FYI. There's a little more backstory for those who completed the 1.0 storyline, but I doubt that'd apply to you.
I planned on making Celesta Seusen, my SS/Inv Brute in it, but the way armor for DoW tends to look...Is dealbreaking so far. I suppose it'll depend on what I could pick up in time for a Pugilist/Monk.
That's really the extent of it, otherwise.
All moved to Millennium City, although one tends to stray into Gotham and Metropolis occasionally as well.

Good news: Controllers are usually replaceable without significant difficulty. Bad news: It may require quite a bit of precision soldering (though not in every case).
I saved my CoH game directory data on several hard drives, even a network drive.
May attempt to clone my present drive next month with a StarTech.com SATA Hard Drive HDD Duplicator Dock.
.....never used one before but it looks like a pretty straight forward way.
Norton Ghost is a bit iffy process.
IRL, all my characters pics/bios are saved on disc, both in Sentinal and jpg/text. In Paragon, they are busy rebuilding cities, working on getting lights back on and waiting for me.

Let's see. Rose is in Ylisse at the moment. Trying to prevent Grima's resurrection in Fire Emblem Awakening. She's also in Sims 3 from time to time.
The others are waiting for their chances to shine. Because losing City of Heroes made me realize something... Even though my characters were made in Paragon City, doesn't mean that their basic character traits and designs can't be used in other games. In fact, with Paragon City gone, the only way for them to live on is to change worlds.
It's a big multiverse. There's bound to be many places for them to pop up along the way. If the game allows for custom characters, one of them is sure to pop up at least once.
And maybe, just maybe, they'll pop up on paper outside any game. Since I've swapped my CoH time with learning to draw. Humans are SO hard to get right...

I'm not sure what's up with DoA and their registration process these days... If they're still set to "invitation only", PM me your email address and I'll send one your way. Be aware, though, that the board is very heavily moderated (Many would say out-right over-moderated on some issues-) and "The Crazy", while way less overwhelming than it was once-upon-a-time, is still very much in evidence.
The "kittens and rainbows ONLY" posting tone that the mods demand everyone stick to makes it more or less impossible for the sane collectors to call the nutty ones on their silliness in more than the very mildest terms, so expect for your dolls to be referred to as your "kids" or your "babies" or whatever, and don't be surprised when someone expresses the firm belief that their dolls have souls.
I wish I was kidding. :o
DoA has some strange, strange people...
My namesake toon stands on the stairs of City Hall, torch held high, fighting against the darkness, until he's needed again.
I parked a lot of my toons, though, giving thought to each placement.
My Kin Fender, who's origin involved his life being destroyed by the Rikti crash, stands vigil in the RWZ, watching the mothership, wanting to take the fight to them, but standing vigilant against them.
My Elec/SS tank, a robot that gained sentience, is in the Matrix room, as it seemed fitting for him to go out with a stream of what appears to be electronic communication.
My NRG/NRG blaster had a costume revision to make him a mender. He stands watch over eternity, on the lower ring of Ouro, ready to help at any time, any place when needed.
Man, this really makes me miss COH.

Hang in there, friend. We won't be fighting that darkness forever. There are too many talented people hard at work trying to get us all playing again. There are not one, not two, but
three new cities under construction as we speak.
And to be honest, I for one haven't given up on seeing Paragon City itself again one day. Sure it may be a longshot, but in all honesty, what are the chances that so many different people could unite so strongly over a computer game in the first place? Especially one that, compared to its competition, was relatively unknown. We've always been the underdog, the small fish in a big pond. City of Heroes
itself was a longshot, and so is the way it still has so many people standing behind it after all this time.
Plus, just look at our resume. We've fought giant monsters, interdimensional invaders, armies of the undead, time travelers, and ancient gods. Longshots are what we do best. ;)

My namesake and a few others headed back to Myridas(the world my book takes place in), but many of the others are still lingering in limbo, though a few have found reincarnations in DCUO or some other random game, but are largely treated as separate characters because of immense differences between iterations... (Ruby Nova in CoH for example was an evil Nictus pretending to be a Warshade to meet her own goals, where as in DCUO she's a normal hero who's just trying to help people with her gifts.)
Pretty much all of the CoH specific ones are still "fighting" in Paragon against the final entropy wave that was the Coming Storm and they're slowly being swallowed up by the void as their will to fight onwards wavers... (Translation, a bunch of them were "on a whim" alts whom were never heavily invested into, and will likely not be rerolled should CoH ever come back)
In limbo. :-\
I'm pretty much done with MMO's until CoH Comes back, If it never does, then it never does. I'm not going to waste my time trying to make myself like a game because I want a substitute to CoH. I've tried for nearly a year and no luck.
I guess I was never a MMORPG player, just a COH player.
Someday, I am sure, we will all know the joys of entering our City again. I won't give up believing this!!!!!
Vicious Vicki- Former brute. Got tired of bashing in skulls and getting booed. Moved to Michigan, started new life as a "hero" and gets to bash in skulls and get rewarded with praise and a penthouse.
Smashbinger- After losing his RI Hero license, settled down in Maine and started a family. Still not completely adjusted to civilian life. Recently got sued for tresspassing and property damage after saving his neighbor from getting ran over by a riding lawnmower.
Lady Mink- Hung up her villain cape and opened up a mink fur shop. PETA disapproves. She responded by challenging them to an arena fight. No reply from PETA yet.
Rellik- Villain turned rogue turned hero turned vigalante turned hero has decided he couldnt stop scaring people half to death with his dark powers so he became a freelance magician. Got arrested twice in NYC for causing 8 heart attacks during a demostration in a retirement home. Then got hired on as an interrogator for the NYPD. Very much enjoying his job scaring some of the most hardened criminals into confessing their crimes. Still pending on whether ornot these methods constitutes torture.
A Mad Woman- Got her bike back. Last spotted in Montana.
Winters-Now working as an ice sculpture artist. Still depressed about losing his RI hero license.
Pollaro Z. Powers- Locked up in a nut house after RI hero liscense was revoked. Now claiming he is Batman. Electricuted four mental asylum guards, 8 counts of refusing his medications, and 4 counts of causing disruption in the hospital by running down the hall wearing only a helmet while singing the the 1960s Batman theme. Usually kept in an anti-static room in solitary confinement to prevent use of his powers.
Nigel A. Scot- Retired. During his tenure as a villain, he converted most of his infamy into Euro. When the fun came to an end, he retired to his British estate, sipping only the best Scotch in the world, watching films of himself manhandling heroes, and enteraining guests with stories of his exploits of how he got away with his crimes in Rogue Island and Paragon City. Rumor is that he and Nemesis still talk on a monthly basis.
Tower of power - (Elec/Shield scrapper) - last seen in a dimly lit basement listening to Frank Zappa records along with a bunch of genericed water blasters formerly known as "Golden shower".
Mr Minotaur - (Stone/Axe tank, see my avatar) - Never wanted to be a hero, but trouble followed him around, retired, married with kids, nervously waiting to see if they grow horns.
Eastgate Bay Ray - (PB) - Now playing guitar with the "Dead Freedom Phalanx".
TheoPWildebeest - (Nrg/Nrg blaster) - The self styled "horniest man in the world" in the words of George Best spent a lot of money on booze, women and fast cars and squandered the rest. Now works as an escort.
Debbie does Talos - (fire/WP scrapper) - went back to cheerleading, now housewife to an ex quarterback.
Tahquitz - (Fire/Ice Blaster) Last seen entering a portal in Peregrine Island to head somewhere else. (READ: Looking for a new game to land in. Tried and quit Secret World, Neverwinter, and DCUO. CO as a last resort... closest to COH I can get even though I'm not happy with how it turned out.)
Elara K. - (Fire/Emp Con) In First Ward burning things... before the lights went out in Paragon City the last time. Last seen in Texas at a Elementary School as a Instructional Aide for 2nd Grade and at a BBQ Competition (stoking fires, still a vegan I'm afraid.) (Same problem as Tahq.)
Matoaka - (MA/SR Scrap) Caught swimming in the Atlantic towards Long Island. (Same problem as Tahq.)
Weld - Currently hard at work trying to make herself look like that guy from Elysium. (Someday... I might bring her back with the right costume creator, and the right company to join her.)
Quiescent Tourist - (Kinetic/Nin Stalker) Riding a ferry back to the mainland, whereabouts unknown. Rumored to have returned to Russia. (Not bringing him back.)
Major Epoch - (WarMace/Will Tank) In the depth of Oranbega still busting heads in looking for her eye. That was 11 months ago, no one's heard from her since. (Not bringing her back.)
As for myself, things have done a 180 since I lost COH, as I've replaced play with more work. Finishing my degree next week (Associates, don't get too excited), starting an afterschool program (Heard of MOUSE Squad? :D) at my local High School next month, and starting to pay into retirement savings again for the first time in 3 years. I'm rooting for MWM as soon as I see their Kickstarter appear, otherwise, I can see a time when I'm on MMO games about as often as I visit relatives for the Holidays. I just hope it's 5 years from now versus 5 weeks... there's too many citizens of Paragon I can't wait to see again, even if it's somewhere else.
After joining a final mission, my character was stuck at Steel City Yellowline......Tram quit running 15 min's before midnight and I was stranded albeit chatting to my friends back in Atlas Park holding torches.
that's Venus--, never far from a Wentworths.

I logged out in Skyway Canyon.
:P
whoops....Steel Canyon....that is.
my word, lost track of map already.... :P
Well, my characters mostly still exist in my memory of the various fun times I had playing them. I can look at them, load up their costumes and go flying around the city zones thanks to Icon, but the streets are surprisingly clean and crime non-existent! (Gee, I would guess that we'd won but I don't see any hapless citizens around either.)
They all comfortably reside in a nice warm file, with all their SG Mates, on a zip drive. I inadvertently became keeper of the SG!
Some of my toons have had their names resurrected over at SWTOR.
My main toon, Spellcaster Hana is traveling between dimensions, meaning, I'm trying to recreate her from other games/MMOs but she goes back to Paragon City for a visit and nostalgia once in a while (using Icon of course). She's also looking for my other toons since they all got scattered between dimensions after Paragon City was destroyed. :(
Wow, been a while (new computer etc).
Well my characters have not been used that much.
Although I've kept my global name, well shortened it really in other games that I've tried etc.
So I guess they have yet to appear in any dimension which which the Lady opened a portal too.
Even before the shutdown I was working on stories based around an old crime-fighting character named Grandpa Anarchy, who was based off a City of Heroes character of mine. I'd written seven stories about him before last September, then I wrote 2 more in September 2012, and spend the month of November (National Novel Writer's Month) trying to write as many stories as I could. These are almost all very short stories, and I tried to write a new story each day for the month of November, even as I was playing the last month of City of Heroes. I managed to start 30 stories and complete 24 of them -- some better than others, of course.
Over the course of 2013 I've tried to expand on that as much as possible. I set a goal to write a new story for each week of the year and to publish a book. I've already finished the first goal, and as far as the book goes, I've assembled 32 stories that I think work and edited them and/or rewritten when necessary, and I'm waiting on edits from friends and I have a friend working on a cover illustration. The plan is to self-publish through Lulu or a similar outfit, my friends have done this before and it's pretty easy, and while you can't really expect to make money it's still pretty cool.
At this point I've written about 90 stories set in this universe, and I've borrowed quite a few characters from my CoH stable -- and I've also had fun creating new heroes and villains to play with, which is of course one of the things I did in CoH. So I'm expanding the universe and having fun with it, that's what counts. I read one story a month at my writer's group, and most of them have met with approval (and the ones that didn't -- deserved not to, heh).
my fire/fire brute went up in flames
my dark/dark defender went....euh, well,......dark
my CoT infiltrator went underground
my stone/wp brute got depressed and tried to hang herself
k, stopping now, getting depressed myself...still miss the game
A few of my heroes had gone through portals in Portal Corp and ended up in alternate universes.
My shield tank - Jackie Victory ended up in Metropolis.
My street fighting scrapper - Battling Betty ended up in Millennium City.
All my others are waiting to return to Paragon City someday.
I went to Deviantart, found a couple of artists willing to take commissions whose style I liked, and had several of my characters depicted by them. Since then I've assembled their work into a large poster print and framed it on my wall, with the old COH logo in the bottom corner to remind me.
I admit it was pretty thrilling when each new piece came in. :)
I liked playing around with the character creator and powersets a LOT, so the hardest part was figuring out who would be on the final prints! Couldn't have them ALL depicted without taking a major hit to the wallet and the wall space!

Well, I still have my Sentinel+ files, waiting on the day I'll get an opportunity to use 'em again.
In the meantime, some of my characters have been spotted in other games. Crimson Crush currently exists in Terraria, where he still continues swinging around enormous weapons for fun and profit. Turns out, he's pretty good at moving earth and engineering. Kaiser Tarantula has temporarily hung up the crabspider pack and is trying a life as a Shadowknight on Everquest.
When Dungeon Fighter Online shut down, a couple of my characters went with it.
They're all living a rather 'mothballed' life, waiting for their next opportunity to take up the hero & villain life.
The various commissioned prints that made up my little shrine-on-the-wall to my past toons can be seen here:
http://yoreverend.deviantart.com/
Sentinel+, Icon, got all that going.
MMO wise, I did revive one toon briefly in TSW, but that game has yet to really win me over. It's a good concept but the combat lacks the visceral punch of City's combat system and the community pales in comparison.
I've pondered taking some of them to the CO dark side, but I was there for the launch of CO and it didn't appeal to me. Pretty good graphics, OK combat, but it doesn't even have a tenth of the content. The teaming mechanics felt like old school City, before team-wide sidekicking, and that's not an endorsement.
One of my characters, Blackshear, started life not in City but in pen-and-paper Champions (which is every bit as awesome as its online counterpart is lame), and while that campaign is long over the GM still revives it for the occasional one-shot, so to my mind the "real" version of that particular toon will live forever.
Tabletop is a great way to revive your characters, but unfortunately it can be a chore to find people who play and run superhero tabletop RPG's. Of course now we have open source virtual tabletops, which makes it easier to connect with other games, but most of them are D&D based. (Of course, for those of you who were bringing Drow or other D&D based toons into City it's a gimme.)
I did do the Sentinel+ thing just in case.
Never have been able to get Champions Online to work for some reason.
I did mess with DC Universe Online free-to-play recently and was able to make a version of my old Huntsman, but I doubt I'll do much more than mess with it occasionally for a few days before uninstalling it.
Role playing since '81 I've had a lot of characters come and go in various games. I've had some basic concepts coalesce into archetypes that get re-envisioned from time to time, game to game, setting to setting. So I was ok with letting most of my CoX characters go. Some vague version of them will carry on somewhere else in time. I had one particular character in CoX that was unique for me and that I miss very much, however. A borderline personality boy genius who should have outgrown his desire to play with toys, but instead he learned how to bring them to life. Mantenna was a Bots/Traps MM that could take almost any spare parts and cobble them together into a 'toy'. Often his toys were lethal and Mantenna really didn't care so long as he got what he wanted. There is no game for me to recreate this character online. I tried in Champions and it was a pale comparison at best. I would re-make him in a HERO game, but all of my old table top mates have families and careers now. No one else around here seems to like the system and I'm too old to train up a bunch of kids on how to play it anyways.
Nightshade has left her boyfriend and now lives in a menage a trois with Dr Night and Moongirl in London.
Divine Wind II has returned to Tokyo and continues to honour the name of her grandfather, the original WWII Divine Wind.
BlackMoth is still somewhat unsure of whether he is even real.
Prime Knight is my own design, which I used in City of Heroes. He and his fellow heroes are currently in a story of mine: commanding a starship defending Earth.
I also found a bunch of heroclix which are pretty close to the CoH designs sitting on a display shelf. (hanging with my shapeways designed starship).
I've also recreated Prime Knight in Champions, Star Trek Online, and Final Fantasy 14 ARR.
I feel like my characters are still living their lives in Paragon, waiting on me to get back to them. I can't see them, but they are still just doing their thing.
In fact one of mine 'got married' Dec. 1st (we wanted to leave with them expecting something happy), so they're coming up on their 1 year anniversary too. It's just a better one that the anniversary we're all getting ready to see.
More to the point, Bold, Noble and Peppy all live on in my art, and as action figures (Customized some DC figures, fairly extensively). And all my others still live similarly, only in art, until we get our city back.
Most of my characters are still in Paragon City or the Rogue Isles. One or two are wandering the Earth in search of adventure.
My main, Windows 3000 Sux Man, finally fulfilled his quest of 9+ years and built a working time machine to return to the year 3000. He would probably have gotten finished sooner if he hadn't insisted it be in a flying sports car.
Most of his single-player SG, Technological Crime Patrol Over Independence Port, were sliders, time travelers, or time-traveling sliders. He took about half a dozen characters back to their homes that day, leaving TCPoIP almost empty and Kawaii Apocalypse redside leaderless and also somewhat depleted. The groups merged with coalition groups (if the game was still live, they would keep one character in the group to retain their bases).
One time-traveling slider that chose not to go back to post-apocalyptic Omicron Delta 10-66 was Laufey, my psychic archer. She's enjoying using her precognitive powers to get rich in a world that's actually recovering from its disasters. And it looks like Crey needs a new countess, with the old one having been sent up the river for Murder One...
Honestly, about to move on from CO. I am hopeful they'll be in CoT soon, cause my hatred towards the CO community had reached a boiling point. I just cannot stand the CO community anymore, at all, to the point it's hard not for me to blow up on them. The level of misery only really increases when I try to play cause I have to put up with them when online. It's gotten to the point where, I won't even care if that game gets shut down, even. I actually blew up and ended up flaming people in one thread and my post actually got the thread locked, cause I couldn't contain myself anymore.
So I ultimately don't know what I wanna do. While I suppose I like CO, it's hard for me to wanna leave the sg i am in since they are cool people but, ultimately, I am unsure where to move my toons onto. Alot of people are wanting to leave anyways, due to things like the dodge nerf, but it gets worst because yeah, there isn't anything to look forward to in that game. My morale has tanked and I near went berserk for it, it's not a fun experience for me anymore.

Hey it happens.
Happened more often than many here want to admit even in COX.
Commuities end up being great for some to the point they cant see how anyone cannot like it and those that don't like must be because something is wrong with them, to some meh, others like how you feel towards CO. Contrary to popular belief, all are valid feelings because each person's experience may vary and some people deal with it in different ways.
I knew someone that played COX, hated the community, felt there was too many self righteous "I can never be wrong" people running the joint. He thought about quitting many times but decided, as he put it, "hell no, those people are not going run me from a game I like. They don't pay the sub, I'm not here for them, I'm here for the game." And thus he stayed for a while longer, until he found another game that caught his interest. Many others could fathom how could anyone have a bad experience or not like the community of COX. Others simply left and many didn't care COX got shut down due to their community experience. While others came to stop caring after the community changed after the announcement. Others dealt with it in their own ways.
Yeah, sometimes communities can have profound effects on the players if they have bad experiences. They go from loving the game to being frustrated ot the point they don't care if the game got shut down. While on the old forum, if you replaced CO in your statement with COX, people would come out the wood work to flame ya and troll you for saying what you said. And in fact that have to people who said even less. I think now that COX is gone and many move on to other games or try other games, many are starting to feel what those people many people used to flame make fun of, troll, and dismiss their feelings, went through. Ya just going through with it with CO. But many went through those feelings in COX and been told their feelings were invalid and got flamed, trolled, disrespected and got the works. Now maybe those that had different feeling in the end besides "all positive and hope" are a bit more understood now and realize their feelings were just as valid even though then their feelings were utterly disregarded and in a disrespectful manner dismissed. as the feeling many people of ex-COX fame are feeling in other games, especially in CO.
What often annoys me the most, in CO's case, is how alot of the players instantly assume i'm asking for a CoX clone, when I never am. So suggestions I did make on the forums before often just got disregarded, but it feels like, yeah. I remember one person who left CoX for a number of reasons, alot of bad role players drove the guy away, and I wasn't the best rper back then either.
I heard valiance online will be entering beta next year though, so i'm hopeful i'll have a game to go to soon. I plan to move on when either VO or CoT enter beta, even if only in beta i'll still probably enjoy having gotten away from CO.

Indeed. People assumptions can be frustrating. Like I can bet if certain Ex-cox people showed up here right now, many would assume something negative, no matter what they say or the point being made. Even if someone well liked turn around and say the same thing and get praise by the same people that flamed the other guy but since the someone they like say it, it's ok, but it wasnt ok when the person they didnt like said it. When someone they didnt like say it, it's considered being negative, being a shill, trolling. But someonethey like say it, it's considered positive, and "hey they are just being realistic".
In CO many COXers are feelign the affects of those types of assumptions they used to do to other people in COX. "Oh another COXer, they must want to make CO into a COX clone." Yeahm some, very few, went to CO in a loud obnoxious disrespectful manner talking about how CO isnt like COX and how COX was better and CO should be more like COX, CO sucks and COX was the perfect game, with total disregard that some people play CO because they like it better than COX, and how they should transform CO into COX whilethye play until one of the other games get up and running, aka coming in there expected everyone and the game to cater specifically to COX player taste while saying they have no plans sticking around in this, as they sometime say "suck game that should get shut down". And unfortunately, like some people do, assume all ex coxers are like that. Like I said, maybe this exposure as unfortunate it is, open their eyes in the ill manner they treated some people in COX and the assumptions they made, and how it feels when people make quick and usually wrong assumptions. Hopefully now people can look back and realize that the people they treated like that, and now realize it's not a good feeling, know now how those people felt, and if they come across a few have it in their hearts to say, "my bad." because they marginalized it, but now they are on the recieving end, they realize it was probably more than simply whining and shilling as they originally assumed and not a good feeling to be on the other side.
It feels like almost every CO forum goer assumes a CoXer just wants CO to be CoX. Which isn't true, but the number of people who say that, every thread I made untill the thread that turned into a flame war someone accused me of that. Consequently, every thread I ended up in, I found myself a little more negative. I just don't care anymore, they wanna show that kinda prejudice towards me based on the actions of those like golden girl, I ain't gonna worry about it. Their game shuts down when it becomes a wow clone inevitably at this point, I won't even feel bad with the way I ended up getting battered into a negative tool. In the end it's what they wanted of anyone trying to be constructive I feel, they don't want the game to improve, they want it to remain stagnant, and they just don't really care.
Edit: Thing is, I never had a chance to begin with.

yup it sucks. And this is what I been saying since I goactually started posting here way back in 2012. COXers were treating other COXers with the same disregard and wonder why they felt that way, as you feel about CO now, about COX. Many people never stood a chance. Even just counting the shutdown notice era. Someone tried to be realistic, they got hammered like you did and assumed they were being trolls because they came across someone who shove it in their face (although they were equally shoving their feelings down people's throats (positive or not)). If they wasnt for crying, hope and grieving over a game and stuff they got assumed they were trolls and didnt care about COX, even though many been playing since beta.
Prejudice is not good. And while many COXer seen no big deal about doing it to others that didnt agree with them or didnt cry or grieve to their standard, and some had mindset of hate ncsoft or else you are a "insert negative" insult, and anyone that didnt show anger to ncsoft was automatically put into that negative category, or was posting about hope all the time or tried to look at it rationally, got put into that negative category. Then some people got tired of it, and simply stopped caring, oh then did many of those hopefuls really turned up the the heat. Well, the thing is that type of stuff happens when one do not try to understand the other and assumes. Like they did you. And unfortunately, many COXers made many enemies over the years with their brash bashing "agree with me or you;re a troll behavior" and telling anyone that complains about the prejudice that they deserve it. No one deserves it, even if they did it in the past to someone else.
Learning how it feels on the other side of how it felt when COX players were doing it to other COX players throughout the years I hoped it would be learned simply by calming down and trying to put themselves in the other person shoes. But it seemed many couldnt see the fault until they started to experience it themselves in other games first hand. And now they realize it's frustrating, make it hard to care about the game or community, and it's simply no fun. but it's extra sad you had to experience that in CO, which is generally I found to be friendly, as I dont remember you doing that to other people in COX.
But now, when people say they dotn care that COX shutdown or stuff, maybe now some understand how they came ot be that way. You aint the first COXer that I seen go through that and probably wotn be the last. First impressions seem to last and people sometimes prejudge wrongly. COXers are known outside this site and other supporting site, as overly opinionated, holier than thou, cant take any sort of critism that isnt praising them, whining, want every game to be exactly like COX, selfish bunch of players. Do some people of COX fit that description. Hell yeas. But majority of people dont. Think about back in the day how people prejudged WoW community and even recently saying WoW community is nothing but a cesspool of trolls. It's like WoW here cant even be brought up without someone prejudging the entire 7-8 million people that is part of the WoW community. Isnt that doing the same thing you had to go through? Blanket judging due to a relative few's behaviors? Eventually it has to stop somewhere. We are heroes, why not start with us? especially since many COXers now know what it's like to be on the recieving end. Because if we here are not willing to stop it and keep prejudging andn ot giving people a chance and asumming, then we cant be getting mad when it happens to us in other games.
There is a lot I love about Champions Online. In fact, there's a lot I love more about it than I did COH ... things I would have loved to had in COH.
It's not a perfect game.
It's not COH, but then, it was never meant to be.
And little by little, we are seeing new things in CO ... costumes available in the C Store or Drifter Store instead of the lockboxes ... new vehicles ... even the occasional new mission or event.
It's a good game and it has an incredible capacity for character creation ...
I like Champions Online for similar-- but different-- reasons than I loved COH. (Teaming was much more fun in COH and I can't imagine that will change anytime soon.) Even if Valiance Online or City of Tiitans perfectly capture the COH experience (which they won't) I would still also continue to play CO.

Indeed. I been out of the CO loop for a bit, but didn't add some Earth powers or something?
But teaming so far Been having a hell of a lot better experience with it. No over bearing people, no play my way ot get kicked, no one talking down to you because they don't approve of ya costume choice or power selection or because you are not playing how they would have played that set. And no constant bashing of other games like I experienced in COX that kind of dulled the teaming fun for me. Although I haven't been teaming as much in CO yet as much as I had over the years in COX so maybe I'm just extremely lucky so far to make up for the extremely unlucky of running into seemingly every single butthole on the virtue server. More relaxed teaming in CO than COX. Too tense. Like people didn't know how to speak with each other or team without being snarky all the time or poking fun at each other or simple yelling at people or a combination of the three. "Ok so the blaster got separated and while trying to get away brought three rooms worth of mobs to us while fighting the AV and we wiped. No big deal, this is his third day playing, lay off of him." But no, they just dig in more, going on and on and calling all types of names, some I didn't even know existed in the game world until then.
But those types are probably everywhere every game. Which is why CO kind of got the edge with me in enjoyment factor. There is not much team gated content besides alerts, which no one speaks anyways, and the rest I can solo. When I do team, usually the stray lair or something sometimes through references, sometimes random, and such and I think knowing that most characters can hold their own on their own kind of relaxes the settings instead of creating a tense "Heal me! you noob I died because of you! blah blah blah noob, WoW troll blah blah blah." Because then it end up tense not only for the target but also for me. Either I can say something or keep silent and silently condone that behavior like everyone else on the team. All the time I say something, Sometimes we both get kicked. Now what? On victory server that cold mean not even being able to complete the TF unless we deal with people like that. On Virtue, it could mean hopefully another set of people are interested in that TF at the time or else it may as well be like victory and forget about doing that TF or else deal with stuff like that.
CO, no worries, teaming is more for the fun of it, not great rewards, there are none to be had for teaming in CO really, we all probably can hold our own pretty well if mess hit the fan, and thus it becomes more like a social event more than a tense task of "either I put up with these butts or I probably wont get another opportunity to do this team gated TF for another 6 months."
