Title: Anyone heard of "Heroes vs Villains" before?
Post by: gnikaido on August 05, 2013, 10:41:00 PM
Saw this on Kickstarter this AM

http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/151288865/heroes-vs-villains

It doesn't look that interesting, but it might behoove some of the plan Z's to keep an eye on it and see how it goes and what kind of feedback they get.

They very nearly got the name right :P

More seriously, though, apart from being a single player mobile game, that page is a very good example of a typically bad amateur Kickstarter attempt - they pretty much have nothing to show except some concept art and a very crude video clip showing nothing that couldn't be thrown together in a few minutes in the Unity engine - there's nothing playable there, and nothing that shows they're capable of going beyond enthusiastic promises.

There's only 1 backer at $1.  The project originator doesn't even show his face in his promo video.  His profile is just the bio of the Indian software contractor that he plans to hire.

Eh, I'll pass.  :P

Edit: for typo.

Unless you're a recognized name in gaming or the geekosphere in general, then you really need something playable to demonstrate your general competence if you're looking to Kickstart a gaming project - concept art, promises or carefully spun demo videos don't really cut it.

basically.

That attempt looks very high risk to put money into, especially if they reach the goal (IF they reach the goal. It hasn't been on for even a day yet but my gut feeling tells me it's a grim chance that they make their goal).

The project have to show something to get that money and remember that overall, most people have not the slightest clue of who they are. As far as most people outside COHTitan, that project in the link and the one being worked on are on the same level of notoriety, another amateur group with good idea trying to make a game. Got to SHOW them otherwise that it's in fact a group of new people that know what they are doing and serious as a stroke about making the game work. We here already know that mostly but the rest of the world overall don't.

just saw this thread,

*takes notes* I never jump into something like this without thinking it out fully first.

I'm sure a demo video of actual game play and cutscenes ETC. would do the trick. heck I got some support for one of my projects by inviting some people to watch me make basic game functions in live stream.

but that project is canned till Zonesama develops the character more, he said he's not ready for a game about the character yet.

oh well, got my own stuff to do, thats always the best route, but yeah even I get desperate for cash sometimes and think of kickstarter or indegogo. but I never follow through cause I don't have enough to show lol. I've got the game-play but it's all placeholder meshes, lol yeah people are gonna pay big bucks in support of the adventures of Mr. Basic Cube. *sarcastic*

I just took another peek at this Kickstarter and noticed that he's got 4 backers now (Woo!) and the pot is at $7.  But, hmmm!  All 4 backers are at the $1 pledge level.  Is anyone good with math here than can explain this?  Where's Arcanaville?

Well, what I was really hoping for was that there would be at least 10 backers now.  That's the threshold when the backer names are revealed.  I wanted to see if this Jeremy Reid anted up for his own project!

I'm pretty sure that you can pledge at a higher tier than you claim the reward of.

5 days to go. I don't think they're going to get the $24,494 they need to meet their goal...

Sadly so. They don't seem to be even close. Even I thought they would get more than that when I called it early this month on the 5th. I was thinking at least a third or half way.

More and more users are wising up to KS now, and it takes more effort to make an impression and convince them that you're competent.

We should all pledge $500 on the next to last day to cause a sudden spike, just to get his hopes up.   8)

Edit:
Speaking of which, did you guys notice that after I mentioned wanting to see if Jeremy Reid made a pledge for his own game, one of the backers suddenly changed his pledge amount to $500.
