Title: Who was your favourite
Post by: Eoraptor on July 06, 2013, 02:45:29 AM
Two slots:

Who was your favourite toon? Power sets, gender, background, alignment, bio

And who was your favourite NPC in the game?

Ferretina was a Claw Stalker with Willpower. She actually started out as a spin on Kim Possible, who in turn, had a spin on Batman called "The Fearless Ferret". That made up character-within-a-character in turn mentioned a sidekick "You'd make fine Ferret Girl." So she basically started out as an analogue of kim Possible dressed up as said Ferret Girl. But she was an incrediby capable balance soloing toon, and pretty quickly, my headcanon of her started to evolve, including more elements from "Batgirl" Cassandra Cain and her backstory. (Liberty Serv)

As for NPCs... Ms. Liberty was fun, but honestly... I will always have a soft-spot for Twinshot, the spunky young leader of the shining stars. a bad-girl-gone-good spunky trying to save her friends, and always ther to buff you up in a fight.

Wait, I can only pick ONE?!?!  OF EACH!?!??!?!?!!11eleventyunbelievable!!2!

Yeesh...

Ok.  Actually, it's a no brainer, both cases.. :)

This here is Brawling Humiliator.  He only holds the mace, he's never used it.  I thought it'd be hilarious that he would sit there and hold a mace while he *BRAWLED YOU TO DEATH... I mean, DEFEAT!!*

Literally, his powers were Brawl, Taunt, Build Up, and most of the Willpower set, with Leadership and such... just about as defensed as I could make him. He once mowed through a mob of +1 Family that was 20 of 'em big.  Somehow kept their attention, all of them, and just... took them all out.  With brawl.  Whee!  I got him from the lowly 1 newbie character to an Incarnate 50+.

Oh, and only solo, street sweeping.  Ever.  No teams, no missions. Not until after the Alpha Slot.  (Ok, maybe not 'ever', as I wanted a Jurassik badge, so I turned off XP to get that on a two man, and I wanted to try to solo the ITF, but had to get a team together, and XP was off for that too.  And I *dumped* everything I got.  Net gain, 0.)

He took out *GM* Fake Nemesis in Atlas too.  Twelve of 'em.  No kidding.  I had witnesses. :)

Yeah.  He was a hoot.  Thwap.  Thwap.  Thwap.  Aaand you're dead.  I mean, defeated.  Keep gettin that wrong...

---

And my favorite NPC was Mother Mayhem.  It's that purple hair.  Yeah that's it.  Well, that, and she's a little... off... is just intriguing to me for some reason...

My favorite was probably the Electric Melee/Energy Aura Stalker I was working on just before the shutdown.  Didn't even get to 50, but she was already incredibly fun, and I enjoyed the backstory I'd come up with for her.  If I'd ever kitted her out with all the sets I'd planned on (at a cost of billions and billions, but what's the fun in getting to that point too fast) she would have been absolutely insane as well.

Joulea Wattson was her name, a tiny little robot.  Designed as the prototype for a toy line of remote-controlled battle robots, the project was cancelled before it reached fruition, and her inventor installed a full AI in her, souped up her electricity emitters, and installed a cloaking device.  She had a childlike understanding of good and evil that made her a perfect hero.

As for NPCs, well, this may seem odd, but the NPC I find myself liking the most in retrospect is the one I saw constantly.  One might even say she was overexposed, since she was in so many tips.  She was irritating, and kind of pathetic, but more than anyone else, I miss Flambeaux.  She just wanted to be famous, was that really so much to ask?

well my favorite was and actually still is, Vicious Vicki. The only one that got recreated in CO.

COX- WP/WM brute female red head. Villain. Level 50

She was simple, she didnt hate anyone or was out for revenge. She simply liked hurting people. She didnt even enjoy being a villain, just that her activities were frowned upon by heroes. She hated that citizens ran away from her, and the media called her a menance to society, and the police always hassled her.

CO-Heavy Weapon/Regen. Still a red head. on the surface a hero. She still simply like to hurt people. She moved out of Rogue Island to start a new life and get away from the villain title. She realize as long as she only hurt villains, and maybe a few borderlines, people praise her now, ask for her autograph, the media calls her a hero, the police enlist her help all the while still enjoying hurting people. Win win in her eyes.  Level 40

She prefers to be called Victoria but Vicious Vicki stuck but she dont care too much about that title as long as no one tries to get in the way of what she enjoys. Although every now and then she is tempted to cave in the skull of some tight wearing do gooder.

Both incarnations were built to be self sufficient and solo. While she didnt mind working with others she generally tried to avoid it as the temptation to pick off team mates sometimes becomes too great for her to bear.

Rumor is that she sometimes is a switch. She denies those rumors. Although a video was leaked of her enjoying a sound sledgehammer beating by a masked villain. She insists it wasnt her in the video.

Mmm.....my name here for hero side...a take off on the dumb cheerleader stereotype, mixed heavily with Julie brown's "The Homecoming Queen's Got A Gun".  Totally vapid, (entire bio in bimbo speak.."So, like I was about to be Prom queen, which I so totalyl deserved, being like, super hot and all, and then these, like, total losers, with, like, so many issues, totally trashed prom")..Hellions fighting hero blasted through wall ended up trashing prom, hero lost...she picked up his gun and gadgets (AR/Dev), and decided to avenge the ruination of prom!

Heh, RPing in team with some CCCP folks was real interesting...."dial electric? huh?  isn't, like electricity, from like, totally flipping a switch?"

Favorite NPC.....Television.  :)   loved that arc.

Poundy Hammer!
Tiny girl, giant hammer:  Stone Melee/Electric Armor/Mu Mastery Brute originally red-side on Freedom, eventually turned Hero and moved to Infinity.  90% soloed to fifty.   Excellent all-around powers,  melee, ranged, control... and with Incarnate abilities and level shifts, so much fun.  And awesomely resistant to stinky ol'Rikti on those Lady Grey TFs.
QuoteSole survivor of a freak radioactive satellite crash-landing on the playground sandbox, Poundy Hammer brings her own warped brand of Justice to the Rogue Isles while wearing her home-made super villain costume - when she's not dressing up as her favorite heroes out of the Infinity and Guardian Comic books she reads. Contact info: Leave your phone number and the latest Infinity and Guardian comics (bagged and boarded) behind the changing rooms at the Rogue Isles Community Swimmin Pool. Oh, and big bags of cash.

Favorite NPC?   Penelope Yin, or maybe her father for selling lowbie SOs.  Least favorite?  Penny Prissypants Preston in Founder's Falls - hatred for pretty much all store contacts that require a mission before buying, left over from the olden days before  the Vanguard Base store.

My favorite villain of mine (I only had one Rogue...everyone else was either blue or red) was a DM/FA Brute, Dreadfyre Wraith.  A Demon, summoned against her will by the CoT...Legacy Chain was doing a ritual to forever block all portals to her native plane.  The unfortunate coincidental timing meant she got summoned, and ahd most of her power cut off...but was also not bound to service...slaughtered the stunned CoT, and started obliterating "lesser things" as she regained her lost power, looking to get home, away from these disgusting "humans".  I loved it when I'd get hit on IC....I'd reply with, "I'd as soon copulate with you as you would copulate with the creature you call a goat.  You disgust me." if it was lewd and crude...well RP'd would get a much gentler response....."I find the though of going outside my own species....disturbing. I shall merely accept it as a compliment, and we'll not speak of it further."

Post by: Thunder Glove on July 06, 2013, 07:10:15 PM
I had two favorite characters, both loosely based on Captain Marvel's two main adversaries.  Both were created in Issue 17.

Thunder Glove (Elec/Invulnerability Brute) - yeah, my user name.  He was going to be a straight ripoff of Black Adam, but then I saw Robot Arm 3, and had to use it, turning him into a blond-haired cyborg.  The "Glove" part of his name was inspired by the character Glove from the old cartoon Bionic 6.  I didn't write up a full backstory for him then, but had a vague idea of an alien emperor stripped of his power and exiled to Earth. Then, once I'd been playing with the character for a while and I dropped a few Dual-Origin Enhancements, I realized I'd forgotten to change his origin from Magic to Tech.  In the end, his story was basically Captain Marvel meets Darth Vader: a former hero, empowered by magic, gravely injured in an accident, forced to wear a suit of life-support armor, and his mind snapped under the strain.  When Going Rogue was launched, I did just that, turning him a little way back towards Heroism.  The Rogue mission was perfect for him, too - the one where Arachnos hires you to force innocent families out of their homes, and your character refuses, and takes down Arachnos instead.  (And then takes down the hero who tries to arrest him at the end)  Incarnate powers made him more invulnerable and gave him a lightning blast to go with his lightning melee.

Dr. Bodog (Robots/Storm Summoning) was also a villain, based on Dr. Sivana - to the extent I'm surprised I got away with the name for so long.  ("Bodog" is Dr. Sivana's middle name in the comics, though I did change his costume a number of times to make him look less and less like his inspiration - Baron coat and boots, red hair and goatee)  He would have gotten the Gadgetry Power Pool once it went live.  An unrepentant and over-the-top villain right out of the Golden Age of comic books, with a robot army and weather control satellites (controlled by mechanisms in his gloves).  I didn't play a Mastermind the way you were "supposed" to (i.e., being in the fray with the pets on Defensive, and drawing all the aggro); No, I played him as a Mastermind.  He sat back, and cackled "GO MY MINIONS!  DESTROY THEM ALL!", with anyone who got close to him getting a Hurricane in the face (if they were lucky and didn't get hit by the Tornado or Lightning Storm).  My favorite thing to do was to pick out a distant target, and just send my robots en masse (in Aggressive mode) to take it down and anything around it.  With Incarnate powers came the ability to add two more Robotic Drones to his army.

Favorite NPC was Back Alley Brawler.  I always loved teaming up with him with my heroes.  I also liked Marauder, just by proxy, and was glad he was going to be playing a bigger part in I24.

It is funny how my favorite character was the one I spent the least amount of time with. :-\

I created Void Summoner on the Beta server to try out the I24 stuff that never saw live.
As a Dominator with Dark Control and Martial Assault; it was beyond fun to lock down all the baddies and then hurl shuriken at them.

Shuriken Throw!

As far as NPCs went, I thought Matthew Habashy (http://paragonwiki.com/wiki/Matthew_Habashy) was an interesting character.  He was the first mission giver you were pointed to Blueside after Freedom came out.  The fact that he was willing be a distraction and have the crap kicked out of him so that you could defeat the Arachnos baddies was pretty ballsy.
And then related to the above, Aaron Thiery (http://paragonwiki.com/wiki/Aaron_Thiery) who went another step further and became a mole for Arachnos, so that Heroes would be spurred into action.

Bullet Barrage, my Dual Pistols/Energy ( :'( Martial!) Blaster, main, and  eventually namesake. My favorite character by far, she was the only constant toon in a sea of alt-itis for me, and my only character to really be incarnate-d.
Funny thing is, I don't even know why I got attached to her. Probably the, to toot my own horn, amazing costume. (Y'know, thinking about it, I never really RP'd with her, even though I mentally fleshed out the character. I wonder why... Alas, that is a question for the me of the past.)

I also always made sure I had one Katana scrapper in my roster at all times, though, so that may count. It wasn't really the same toon, though, so?
It was probably my second favorite powerset, and that is saying something. Here's the one I had for shutdown.
I just really freaking loved playing with Katana.

CheerGunBunny, I'm sure I remember reading your bio in game at some point and enjoying the IC tone of it.

And speaking of little girls with big weapons, Goodtime, I found mine, who was another favourite..

Susan Lapua, a little girl with a BIG gun (vanguard sniper rifle) gun blaster with psionic attack (though some servers had her built with gadgets instead) and of defenseive flight.

Ok, I officially want CoH back so I can do this.  I'd... I'd make a new Dawn sister.  That'd be four of them Dawn girls, but I'd do it... assuming you could have gotten Mind/Martial, that is, so she'd fit the profile.  Alla them had Mind Control and then something else.

My toon choice is Citizen Commando, an Assault Rifle & Devices blaster that I had on Protector. He soloed several elite bosses without any IO-set advantages, which was an accomplishment for me. I'd pick a spot where I could snipe the EB from, and then could duck around the corner to force the EB to come to me. Then, using Hasten, I'd stack 16 trip mines at about where he'd be stopping to attack me. I'd then shoot the EB with Sniper Rifle, taking about 1/4 of his hit points, and hide around the corner. He'd come running to where he could see and attack me, the mines would blow up, and I'd finish him off as necessary. Stacking the mines took about four minutes, so it wasn't something that a lot of teams would have patience for (and they would have wanted to be in on the kill, of course). The Gun Drone really came in handy if some of the mines missed their to-hit roll. I know that those who indulged in really maxxing out their toons won't find it impressive, but I like to think that it's not bad for a non-IO-set player.

No real favorites among the NPCs, as far as I can recall, although I do remember feeling kind of sorry for Kelly Nemmers in Croatoa - being dead and all. I will say that I never joined the "We Hate Fusionette Fan Club". I even made a clone of her - Fusionetta - and never got gigged on it. I even got to take her on a team to rescue Fusionette. The team's reactions, when the two Fusis stood side by side, is a memory I still treasure.

The one and only pistol packing powerhouse, Twinshot.  8)

As for favorite toon...This one. Martial Arts / Ninjitsu combo, natural origin.. Was a recruit in the Knives of Vengeance before going hero, after Galaxy City went apocalyptic. Joined Vanguard..And later on adopted a more mysterious style, after having dealings with the Carnival of Light in the Night Ward.

Now you understand my pain with this character and the shutdown.  I had never made a controller or dominator before, but she was sooo much fun to play.  Especially using "Trick Shot" which would bounce a shuriken between multiple 'trolled baddies. :D  While most characters I made were Scrappers or Blasters, Void Summoner made it fun to be a Dominator in my opinion.  I had a good amount of players compliment my character concept and power selection, and then lament that the game was closing. :-\

At least Void Summoner has lived on somewhat in Champions Online, but she is more dps in that game than a nice balance of control and dps like in CoH.

My favorite character?  Ahh, that's an easy one--  Norville Pembrook, my very first MFing Warshade.  As long as there was a steady stream of enemies, he could have up to four (but no less than three) fluffies out.  He was by no means a GM killer, but there was no denying how much butt he could kick during the Prisoner phase of the BAF.  I never got to finish my experiment with some of the Hybrid slot powers, though.

His name came about actually because I was doing something with another Kheldian (my PB, Osiron) and my girlfriend tried to read the words "Natural Peacebringer" from across the room.  She said "Norville... Pembrook?" and I immediately had to make the dorkiest-looking character I could.  Plaid sleeves, sweater vest, sneakers, pinstripe slacks, and a top hat, all eye-bleedingly un-color-coordinated.  (Later on, I made different, less obnoxious costumes for him.)  I never actually made an in-game origin for him, though.  Just another regret (along with never having participated in a DKTF).

I haven't downloaded ICON yet but I did recently have a dream that I was demonstrating what he could do to a friend.  :(  Oh well.  Remember:  Warshades don't take Alphas.  They give Alphas.

I think part of the problem was that BAB was supposed to be an old hero from th 70's/80' and never looked like he had the age or style. Plus, Galaxy didn't get the love in general, and then they stuck him in th arse end of AP after the tutorial reboot which never helped matters. I agree, he didn't get the love he needed.

Post by: Kaiser Tarantula on July 12, 2013, 02:00:26 AM
My favorite?  My namesake - Kaiser Tarantula, my often-crab-spider sometimes-a-bane arachnos soldier.  Had enough guns hidden on him to start a war or two, and punched out Lord Recluse in the the World's Greatest Spider-Off in several different near-future apocalypse timelines, multiple times (I loved helping people with their villain patron arcs).

ARACHNOBOTS, ATTACK!!

Ahh, fond memories.

My favorite NPC?  Probably John Temblor, aka Faultline II.  Sure he was a cheatery bastage that combined stone armor, stone melee and earth control all on one character, but I liked the fact that he shaped up nicely after the Faultline arc, and in the RWZ he was easily the most capable ally you could have (sorry Sefu Tendaji, I have a lot of love for you, but Faultline generally kicks more extraterrestrial rump.)

A close second would be Black Scorpion - simply because, in appearance and powers, he's kinda what I originally envisioned Kaiser Tarantula to be - a brutal, heavily-armed high-tech killing machine with a man inside it.

Two slots:

Who was your favourite toon? Power sets, gender, background, alignment, bio

My favorite toon . . . yikes, it's a toss up between about three, but as I have to pick one, I'll go with my main.  Her name was (is, and will be again!) IcelceBaby (yep, that second "I" is a lowercase "L"; I actually liked that about her, too, for some weird reason).   I loved playing her and had some (I'm sure pretty annoying) things for her to say macro'd ("Stop, collaborate and listen!" was one for when no one would listen to the tf or iTrial leader . . . as I said, annoying, but it amused the heck out of me at the time).

She was an ice/ice/ice blaster who was a hero and my second-ever toon.  She did dabble with ebil (for badges) but quickly returned to the side of the good.

And who was your favourite NPC in the game?

I just love love loved Dillo to pieces.

My favorite is still my main.  She was a good ol', generic invulnerability/super strength tanker (with flight no less).

A brief bio for her would be "COT experiment in binding demons to people's souls goes horribly awry when they didn't quite understand what sort of demon they were summoning and didn't get the binding part right."  She started off as a hero, but eventually became a vigilante under the thought process of "Well, someone has to do these things. I might as well do them so no one else has to."

Out of game, she originally started out as younger but the bust size issue drove me nuts so I made her slightly older and a little taller (putting her at 12 going on 13)*.  The joke between my friends of "Quick, everyone stand behind the little girl!" still worked though :D

NPC, hands down (and for completely out of game reasons)- Manticore.  Why? Well for one, I was one of the few heroes in Paragon shorter than him.  Second off, when my friends were first putting together our SG, we realized that our background stories had most of them being pretty damn poor.  But yet we had all of these great costumes and nice items in our base.  Where did we get the supplies to make them?  Out of the garbage cans at Manticore's mansion. Or sure, the homeless 12 year old could have probably given him the sad eye treatment to just get money, but where was the challenge in that?

*Damn you NCSoft! You made me miss my characters in-game 13th birthday party.  I was all set to have a costume contest for it- centered on the theme of evening ware- where the top prize was a full Overwhelming Force set.

Speaking of manticore and hero height rosters, (I'll always remember manticore cause he was featured prominently in the old CoH comics) I remember I made a 12 year old fireblaster, and when I ran the low levels I was highly amused by the fact that she was shorter than twinshot, then one of the shortest NPCs in the game after penelope yin.
