Title: Going home
Post by: doctortoc on June 27, 2013, 01:50:25 PM
After watching Man of Steel the other day, I started getting homesick. Not homesick for the meatspace I grew up in, but the glorious spires and urban sprawl of Paragon City. Thanks to the efforts of Codewalker and Leandro I got to go home again last night. Sure, the old home town was quieter than I recall, but simply being able to slip on the spandex and explore the city again made me happier again than I've been in some time. I found myself turning corners and knowing what I would see, the layout of the city unfolding in my mind as well as on my screen. It made me realise that even if we never get Paragon City and the Rogue Isles back, we made a lot of awesome memories there, and they live on with us.

Doctortoc,

You pretty much hit how I feel about Paragon City on the head.  It was my home away from home, and mentally my own personal history plaques pop up as I pass various buildings, reflecting the missions/events  my alts ran thru during their careers.  And yes, it felt wonderful to activate the recent Icon releases and to once again fly thru what will always remain part of me.

City of Heroes was (and hopefully will be again somehow) a great game.  It baffles me how businessmen can be so blind as to not understand that a great game is a great game no matter how much time passes or technology changes.  People still play Chess, Checkers, Monopoly, Tetris, Dungeons and Dragons, Zork, etc.  Even though time and technology have long since passed them all by.

NCsoft shutting down CoX was...  a triumph of idiocracy over intelligence, taste, heart, and spirit.

Which is isn't a rare thing in this world.

I've said it before - we are going to be able to go home again one day.  NCSoft just gets to decide if they want to profit from it or not when we do.  At the moment, they're choosing not, but that's their problem - it's not slowing down the reverse-engineering team(s).

Feeling the same way, today! Had to wear my AP33 shirt. Would love to be heading home, after work, to save the world!

I'm not sure, but I think that's about it on the sales of shirts.

/Also, Zazzle has an AP33 mug, same log.
//Google Shopping shows 'em, just type 'AP33'.

Forgive my ignorance, but what does the 33 signify?

At the Unity Rally shortly after we got the shutdown announcement, there were so many people logged in that Virtue spawned 33 different instances of Atlas Park. It kind of became a symbol after that... Atlas Park 33.

AP33 Forever!

Good job!  Glad that my link is still semi-correctly associated, but that one is way way better!

Oh, I knew about the crazy number of APs. The AP33 now makes a lot more sense... I want all the merch too.

I am really impressed with how far along Icon.exe has come.  It is great to be able to run a character around the game a little again.  Can't wait until we can get powers working NPCs populated again someday!

Yes, I am male. My avatar was my main in game and was made to look as closely like my RL self as possible. The name in the avatar is my toon's name, and, incidentally, my RL name.

And, on the topic of the undies... I suppose I could wear them over my tights. Just because Zach Snyder doesn't like briefs, doesn't mean the rest of us shouldn't. :D

Pics or it... well, wait, no, not so much.  I'll just trust you when you say you wore them, k?  K.

My wife got me a long live Paragon city shirt for xmas from zazzle. I do not see that shirt as an option but they do still have some COH stuff and some AP33 things.
I am totally wearing this shirt to PAX.
