Title: TED talks Jane McGonigal
Post by: ukaserex on June 16, 2013, 07:52:39 PM
My apologies to the mods - I initially posted this in the wrong forum section.

Somehow, by some mysterious algorithm in Netflix software, it was suggested that I might enjoy a program called TED talks. I can't say I actually enjoyed it the same way I enjoy Rules of Engagement, but I did find Jane McGonigal's talk very interesting, particularly when she showed some screenshots that could only have been from City of Heroes.

Within her lecture (and she is a game developer, with a PhD, so she's no dummy) she was clearly explaining why the CoH community is a wonderful model of how real life ought to be. Not the Hellions in large groups in the park trying to shake down random citizens, we already have enough of that. But, consider it - I mean, someone you know right now has a very daunting quest/mission in their lives. To cut their grass, trim the hedges, edge the driveway and cook dinner for the family. Yet, I can honestly say - I loathe those activities so much, I'm very reluctant to do them for my own residence, let alone help my fellow man do those things.

Well, no sense in me going on and on. I just thought I'd provide a link. Some of you might fall asleep, but some of you might find it very interesting.

Hm.  I missed the CoH screenshots entirely.    She makes some interesting points, but doesn't really get going until about the 6 minute mark.
