ok I just got back from a holliday at disney world florida, I couldn't help but notice something rather interesting; it appears to me they just recently renamed thier 2 main parking lots and I quote: Villains and Heroes, there appears to be some sort of statue-like display infront of each parkinglot's loading area that has yet to be unveiled, I didn't take a look cause I was in a hurry trying to fit everything in in 2 days.
the villains text was in red and heroes in blue.
it seems to me they are preparing for something, maybe they aree overly confident about thier negotiations with NCSoft? aka even though to my knowledge disney didn't get the rights to CoH yet they are preparing for it.
Disney is one of those companies that likes to do things like this quietly for surprise effects.
so, am I just noticing something that has absolutely nothing to do with our favorite MMO? or did disney actually make a deal with NCSoft yet?
So far as I know, there is no legal grounds for the use of the words "heroes" and "villains" being restricted in any way, nor the associated color coordination. That said, it is an odd coincidence, i'n't it?
Shall we try to get a comment on Twitter from Posi? He was tweeting about Disney over the holidays.
A quick Google search turned up this:
http://www.disunplugged.com/2011/09/23/heroes-and-villains-come-to-the-magic-kingdom-parking-lot/
A pretty Disney-fied version of the concept, but it still bears notice.

So Vigilantes are supposed to, what? Park three miles away and walk to the Magic Kingdom? RACISTS!
That's why I like to stay at my beloved Polynesian Village... just a quick Monorail ride over to the park, and I don't have to worry about being judged for my moral ambiguity.
My favorite trip, we "stayed" at Fort Wilderness. I enjoy camping, and the boat ride was a nice way to get to the Magic Kingdom.

Not quite so odd since red and blue get used as opposing colors a lot, even in other cultures (Red oni/Blue oni). So most likely grasping at straws, even if we'd like to think of it as a good omen.
Not to mention, a parking lot renovation was likely planned out a good while beforehand.

My guess is it would probably have more to do with Marvel stuff. I'd think if it had to do with CoH they would have used a typeface we would recognize from the game. I also doubt NCSoft would have come out saying how unprofitable the game was if they were courting Disney. Sure would be nice, though.

I have to say they are sure shooting themselves in the foot, bargaining-wise, by doing that. Mind you, they've already gut-shot their reputation and it is bleeding out, but still.
My own impression however is this has WAY more to do with the current Disney Heroes and Disney Villains advertising campaign than it does us.

It worries me that they might be back on their "We aren't selling ever" thing. I still think we can needle them into wanting to be rid of us and selling, though. Or at least bring this whole thing to investor attention and give them cause to needle NCSoft into selling off some IPs.
hmm, I just had an idea.
maybe in a separate thread we could poke the mouse with extra incentives, like lets come up with some CoH/V rides!!
I know if they took on CoH and CoV it would be in thier best interest to fully capitalize on it, with themepark rides and events and interactive things ETC. not to mention of coarse 'Merchantising' it onto memorabilia, CoH/V hats, shirts, pins, coffee mugs, capes, statesman and recluse masks? back alley brawler gloves? (i would say hammidon halloween costumes but I think theres a risk of suffocation, might want to avoid that)
we also need to give them ideas for the highlights of the cities to show, like what parts of paragon should be features in the theme park? what parts of the rogue isles? we obviously can't have an entire city or even entire city zones, but I suspect there could be things like the central atlas park city hall with atlas' statue, and the central grandville building with the recluse' statue. heck maybe even the magisterim from praetoria.
we also need to encourage them to utilize the characters for marketting in various ways, for example mickey mouse with a statesman outfit on as a mascott in commercials and or doll at the stores.
we definitely need at least 2 main CoH/V roller coasters, I thought we could maybe have them theamed towards some of the more favorite Task/Strike forces.
for example the Statesman Task Coaster (takes you on a wild ride to villain side and back): takes you out of a freedom corps boat through the webfactory followed by a visit to a future room with a few twirls, followed by a whirl around the thorn tree down far under ground and under it's roots and then back up into a cap audiable like place then through Doc Aeon's lab with Aeon and his henchmen around sharp corners and just before drops, the coaster then pops up in the grandville section of the park where theres loops arond where recluse and his henchmen should be, (maybe with them standing on roof tops), then down into a freedom corps boat to end the ride.
obviously the park would have to compact several city zones into 1 and possibly have the hero side less than a mile away from the villain side.
would love to see a FBZ Area.
anyways this is the kinda stuff disney will want to see allong with the track record of the game's profitability.

Yep.
Drive through either of those parking lots and the logic becomes clear.
http://www.tampabay.com/features/travel/attractions/article1198440.ece
The theme park has renamed the sections in its 12,000-space parking lot at the Magic Kingdom. The aisles have been renamed for Disney heroes and villains in a nod to more current Disney characters.
In are Woody, Aladdin, Simba, Hook, Scar, Zurg and a half dozen other goodies and baddies. They have replaced sections named for classic Disney characters and the seven dwarfs of Snow White fame.
Sorry to burst the bubble, but I live near Disney, and they've had that Heroes/Villains lot thing going for way more than a year.
Not sure if "a year and two(ish) months" qualifies as "way more than a year", but yes, since Oct 2011.
Which was more what I was talking about as a coincidence.
To the suggestion of giving them ride ideas: while it's a great idea and would show initiative on our part, is it possible that they wouldn't be able to touch it for the same reason our devs couldn't touch anything from Project Z or VV isn't allowed to read fanfic of her work? They'd be opening themselves up to legal hassles (and, where Disney's legal department is concerned, "hassles" might be a bit generous) if they were to use any of the ideas.
I'm not trying to throw cold water, just make sure we're not missing something.
Even if this has nothing to do with us, it will still help us.
It shows that 'Heroes and Villains' as a concept is currently very popular, and thus has a great deal of marketing potential.
What we have to do is link that potential to the idea of re-starting our game, and find someone who is willing to give us a chance. Easier said than done, but we're heroes; this is what we do.

That would be against the law "Defacing Private Property" and "Vandalism" not really something that would be good for our cause.
A shop job wouldn't hurt, though. Hero logo over the blue arrow and villain over red?
There's no secrecy, subtlety, or sneaking around in Walt Disney World. Your best bet is to assume you're on camera (and possibly microphone) at every moment, except in your hotel room & in the park bathrooms... and the only reason I'm assuming those places aren't fitted with cameras is because no disgruntled ex-employees have come forward to reveal it & cause the company a major PR nightmare.

mickey knows all, and mickey was expecting me.
I went to get on big thnder mountain with my GF there was a 210 minute wait, and someone randomly chose me and my GF to give s thier spare fast pass tickets, same thing happened on exploration everest. we rode 2 coasters without having to wait in line.
as I said, mickey was expecting me and I must say I am pleased with his hospitality. long live the mouse!.
I'm actually rather glad the whole place is on camera, I lost my debit card while there and the park workers found it and kept it for me when I came back the next day.

not quite actually, seeing as it would only be an easily removable peice of paper, even if a guard saw you do it they'd only give you a slap on the wrist and say enjoy your day.
now if it were spraypainted on thats a different story.
thing is it really wouldn't do that much good, the executives almost never visit those parking lots, and the customers wouldn't know what to make of it. and the cleanign crew would take it down and throw it out eventually without any higher ups even seeing it.
you want the higher ups to see it? take a picture like the one above and shop the hero and villain symbols onto it and send it to the disney executives.

It
is actually meant in the interest of public safety. There's FAR more security in Disney parks than people realize... these guys, as usual, know what they're doin'. There isn't really an Orwellian angle to it (although in the Eisner days, I wouldn't have been so certain).
And I'm sure they appreciate the protection from liability it offers them. I notice there haven't been so many "Goofy kicked my kid" lawsuits lately.

True story: I visited the park for the first time back when I was in high school. Yes, it existed back that long ago. I was there with an adult supervised group of high school kids. Needless to say, the oversight pretty much only extended to "outside of the park."
Being the smart a** that I am, I decided that it'd be HILARIOUS to get pictures doing stupid things with the guys in the costumes. Now, I'm not a mean person. The type of things I'm talking about were stupid poses, etc. And I convinced two good friends to go along with it.
We were there for about three days total, and it POURED the first two days. The costumed folks weren't out. It rained the morning of our last day in the park, and then the skys parted around lunch, and suddenly...COSTUMES!
The first one we spotted was the big bad wolf. "He" had his back to us and was talking to two teenage girls. (stereotype much?)
I shoved the camera into friend #1's hand, and friend #2 and I bolted towards him. "Dude! Dude! Wait up!" we were yelling... or something along those lines. The wolf didn't really register that we were shouting at him until we got right near him. And he turned.... right as I entered the turning radius of his nose.
And the snout on the costume clocked me right on the head. Snouts hurt more than you think.
The guy in the costume was all over himself apologizing, etc. We thought it was funny and didn't give it a second thought. The only thing hurt, really, was my pride, and as a teen boy, I didn't have much of that to begin with. We got the stupid pictures and went on our way.
It never occured to me until later that things could've been bad for the guy in the suit...

That's gotta put the guy in a paradoxical mental loop too. Because to be in a full "furry" costume there, the moment you open your mouth, you've gone out-of-character, which is a major no-no. But on the other hand, it'd be completely rude to not apologize, and potentially get you in bigger trouble later.
I've always wondered...
Just how bad did that head smell inside after a hot day outdoors? :o
