Hi everyone!
I just wanted to make sure you all got the chance to see an interview I did yesterday with Matt Miller and Melissa Bianco about the closure of City of Heroes.

good stuff.
I hope they are able to find some sort of employment very soon. That is valuable talent that is sitting around and will be an asset to any game they have a hand in.
That last picture was like a punch to the gut. Good interview.
great interview. ;D
Good, yet sad, interview.
Here's a recap of the most interesting points, IMO.
Dev team had content planned up to Issue 28.
Mare Crisium was the name of the moon base, and it was going to be the center of Earth's defense against the Battalion.
Microtransaction business plan was planned out through the end of 2013.
There were "tons of new products gearing up for the Paragon Market, costumes, powers, super-packs, etc".
Positron said he'll do AMA's about CoH lore every April 28th until the questions stop coming in.
(presumably on Reddit, which is where AMA's, ask me anythings, originated, as far as I know)
He'll give more details as we get closer to that date, and he can't promise everyone who should be involved will be.
:(
One interesting bit you forgot: they were bringing in more money with microtransactions than they ever had without. Food for thought.
Indeed. I noticed that bit too, which makes the decision to close the game down all the more baffling.

yeah, very baffling to me about the reason behind the closure.
I wonder what sort of Project Matt has in mind?
*ahem* dont we havea very good project for him to join right here? Two in fact?

Not paid enough/in charge enough I would reckon.

Yeah. "Posi's gotta eat" so I don't think he could afford to be in charge of a non salary producing game.

Did you mean the green sunset or Rularuu on the second page? Both are amazingly impactful for very different reasons.
QuoteTyrant, one of the greatest enemies players had faced, would take up the mantle of becoming the NEW Statesman.
That's how Golden Girl would have wanted it.

Are you suggesting Posi is Golden Girl?
That line about NCsoft dropping Paragon because they didn't feel like running it anymore really pisses me off.
Even though most everything in the article has been was said before in other places with different words, hearing it again makes me want to break something. >:(

There should be some wooden blocks laying around.

The Rularuu one is from the event I twisted arms at Paragon to get made: When I proposed to my now-fiancee. It was awesome.

Time to start a new meme. NCSoft hates moon bases.
And villains.
And everything else.
Maybe this is as good a place as any to post this pic....I only created the VERY last one..the other set was d/l from Imgur..

The Valve Cat made me chuckle, though I've rarely had any use for them.
Thank you corvus! :D
As I said, ONLY the very last one is my creation...someone else worked hard to put the first 10 together.
Good interview, thanks Maressa.
THANK YOU for the super interview and article, Maressa. It made my day.
It's a great interview, although sad too / ' :

I think this is perfect.
When it comes to large corporations, I always think that underhanded schemes and shenanigans are the S.O.P, until given evidence otherwise. Basically, they have to earn my trust.
It may not be fair, but my life's experiences have shown me that I'm rarely wrong in that approach.

Unfortunately, I suspect your life experience informs your opinion very fairly. I consider myself fortunate in that most of my "career" was spent working in the public sector, specifically higher education, where the organization's commitment to its mission and vision statements was paramount. The money side of the house was simply one of the things needed for that to happen, not the reason for the organization (college) to exist.
Very good read, thank you for posting it.
Matt: Battalion destroys the world in the future, and it's Lord Nemesis who comes back in time to arm us to fight them...
Wow oh wow! ;D And Tyrant turning into the new Statesman. *Sigh*
Got CoH?

This combined with the moon base they had planned blew my mind. Also, I felt like NCSoft had kicked me in the crotch and left me to wallow in agony on the ground.
Never felt any form of internal glee or exictment (more of of the lines of "meh"), about moonbases but it would have been something cool to have available for those that like moonbases, especially given the amount of alien or non-earthly RP characters that people have made.

This hits a little close to home for me.
Reminds me of one of my old army buddies' ex girlfriends.
SCARY was NOT the word for it.
What I want to know is if this Maressa was the same @Maressa I knew in CoH back in 2007-2008. We shared a coalition of supergroups together. Shield of Paragon, unite!

Heya Perf, I am indeed @Maressa, or I should say I was. I wrote about City of Heroes for two years, was a player since 2006, and stood by TonyV's side during the early days of the #SaveCoH campaign. Eventually I had to step back as my usefulness had ended and I became more busy with work. When the opportunity to do this interview came up I jumped at it. I really couldn't have been more excited. I interviewed both of them in the past but this was by far the hardest interview I've ever done. I'm really glad that everyone enjoyed it as much as I did.
Fantastic interview, Maressa! Also...heartbreaking.
