I couldn't find the full background image via PIGG-diving, so I cobbled it together from a few images on-hand.

I thought someone besides myself might like to use if for photo-shopped images and the like :) Enjoy!
Nice work!
Though I'll always remember the "blue skyline" screen, and if I think hard (or check screenshots), I can even recall the original version with eight fixed slots and Origin borders around each name.
Thank you! PSP 8 is my friend!
PSP 7 is a better friend, but I can deal with PSP 8 :)
*sekrit Paint Shop Pro handshake* :)
(I have/prefer 7 also.)
Yay! Fans of pre-Corel PSP! :D :D

At least it was still a JASC product then, and not Corel.

Yup! *participates in the round of High-5's* :)
FWIW (for what it's worth), I found the background/screen you wanted in a pigg.
If you want I can post it.
Oh please do! :D

Hey - do the original "Blue Skyline" and "Red Skyline" backgrounds still exist as piggs in the data?
What about the Gold Praetorian one?

I'll take a look.
EDIT: Found all three. http://hero.thefannish.org/images/graphics/Backgrounds.rar
Link doesn't seem to work...

Which link? If it's one of mine, I can reupload it.
Hm, any idea on how to *change* the screen background? To something more picture taking friendly.

The background for the ICON character creator?
It's possible, but not exactly easy. It involves editing a pigg file.

I'm willing to learn! And also have the sense to back stuff up.
Well, you see, that's the thing.
I've never done it before, but apparently people in the past have replaced textures in the game with their own, hmm...
It would seem I can make things into textures the game would accept with my pigg diver.
Give me an image you want to be the background, and I'll make a copy of it into a texture.
You can PM it to me if you like.
However, I don't see how you can add files into piggs.. this is a question I can't really answer.
Sorry. Codewalker probably knows how.
From what I've read, the game checks a subdirectory named data for files to override the ones inside the .piggs with (the .pigg doesn't get actually modified in the process). You just place the files there and make sure their path matches the path inside the .pigg where the original was located.

That's what I thought, but I wasn't sure.
MisterMagpie:
Download http://www.speedyshare.com/pbdMc/texture-library.rar (http://www.speedyshare.com/pbdMc/texture-library.rar)
Stick the folder in that rar into your data directory, either live or beta, but you will then need a texture to replace the one there.
You shouldn't have to edit the PIGG file.
If you don't have it already, create a folder called "data" in your CoH/CoHBeta folder.
You'll need to recreate the path to the file in the pigg under the data folder.
If you're installed to:
C:\Program Files\CoH
The path for the images would be:
C:\Program Files\CoH\data\texture_library\....something

Yeah, I actually put up a download with the structure already made, in the post above yours :D

Here it is! (http://hero.thefannish.org/images/graphics/editorbackground.png)
It's incredibly basic, I know.
Oh, also, this took me so long because I accidentally uploaded my *entire* coh graphics folder and that included the files you extracted. I don't plan on deleting them ever, so if you want to use the links there as a host instead of that sendspace site, that's fine with me.
EDIT: I see my problem has been solved! Well, the relevant part is my offer of the hosting now
Okay, I googled this one but the results weren't very helpful. How do I make it a texture file? I couldn't find what that format *was*.
I found some nice photoshop stuff tho'.
I'm uploading your texture. It should work since it has a different filesize than the folder I uploaded for you, that had the original background file.
http://www.speedyshare.com/eEwgT/background.texture
Download this and put it in your data folder, where the old background.texture was.
Sure, I can take your links and throw them up as alternate mirrors.

Yay! Fans of pre-Corel PSP! :D :D
I have 8 installed and really do like it most. I have been a PSP fan since version 4. I own but never installed Corel PSP X (ECHS-ptui), and the three times I've been given a copy of photoshop I've immediately deleted that pile of garbage from my hard drive and attempted to forget I ever saw it.
As far as these backgrounds, I too vastly prefer the old blue-black background. It was much easier to remove. I'd prefer just a simple grey - down to black or up to white with the lighting options, myself.
