Title: Call To Action: Unity Rally Two: Turn Up the Volume
Post by: EClark on October 03, 2012, 09:20:25 AM
After thinking about NCSoft's latest announcement for some time, I can come to no other solution.

So, on October 20th, 2012, in light of this latest news. I want everyone to log onto their favorite toon on their favorite server and show and show your support to Paragon Studios, The People who are fighting to keep this game alive, and to the City of Heroes Community.
Come to the biggest virtual street dance in history. Put on your best and dance like it's 11/29. Stand and chat, hold a torch, dance, party,
do whatever, but occupy. Occupy the game we have grown to love. Make as many multiples of Atlas Park on your server as you possibly can. Set a Record. Show that AP 33 was not a fluke or a one time thing. We are HEROES, show a Heroes' resolve. Get friends and relatives on spare accounts. Listen to your servers' streaming music station, and let them know about this block bustin' event.

Now is not the time for tears and sad goodbyes; this is our time. A time for Heroes.
And we ARE Heroes, and this is what we do.
See you at the party.

Okay, how about this for a title....

Unity Rally Two: Turn Up the Volume.

I updated the name on Google+.

I like it... a lot.

Let's get some more weight behind this, guys.

I won't be 'rallying,' but I will be in the game, doing my thing from 8am on the 20th to 8am on the 21st as part of the Extra Life event.

Some might argue that the 20th is a poor choice. I disagree. We have a media event we're talking about doing on the 20th, and the Extra Life event. Having a rally on the same day as well would really help our media exposure, AND draw even more attention to the great work being done for Extra Life.

This isn't a "x detracts from y" situation, but more a "x and y work together to create z" situation.

Hey Drake... we can Rally and play for ExtraLife... whenever you have to take a piss break, refill the coffee, grab a donut from the kitchen... stick yourself in AP or MI and DANCE! :D

It is also a double xp weekend, or so I am told.... so in between those xp grabbing missions, hang in AP... do whatever.
The more we can link together, the more coverage we can get, and the more we get out the message.

The message... we are here... we are not going away... Turn Up the Volume.

Exactly!  My hope with this is make AP and MI our rallying points.  Go there when you need a break or are looking for a new team.  I'd like to see people head there every hour at the 30 minute mark to show support and get hooked up with new people.

"Turn Up the Volume" - I like it!  Let's do it!

Your favorite server, the server with your lvl 50s... your villains... your heroes.... whichever one you have access to or want to be in.

Just be there, and represent.

The Cape Radio will be broadcasting from Virtue, and AFK Radio will be broadcasting from Guardian.  I'm hoping to get a station to "adopt" each server, so if you have contact info for any other stations, please pass that along to me?  I'll be working on this some more this weekend, as I don't have much time tonight or tomorrow.

Our goal is to get as many people in game between 8am eastern on the 20th and 8am eastern on the 21st.  So spread the word!

Have you shared this event on Twitter and the various facebook groups? Lots of folks there.

Could you change the name of this thread to 'call to action' with the description?   On the forum it was hard to find when I was trying to create a 'coordinate all the things from 10/20' thread to grow awareness about the myrid of events.  :D

In order to avoid sticky bloat, what if we set the "coordinate all things 10/20" thread sticky and make sure there are links to the individual pieces parts of said effort?

AFKRadio will be covering events on Guardian Server as well as spinning tunes for toons
The Cape will be doing the same on Virtue Server
Hoping to get the other streaming stations in on it.
Had people talking to people about it.
Wondered what the outcome was.

I'm still trying to get contact info for other stations.  If anyone knows of any, please contact me.  I'm having trouble logging into the forums of most of the sites I have found, Google seems to think I keep turning of my cookies, though I haven't.  It's frustrating.

So please, please, please, direct any stations you know of to contact me via email using my username here @gmail.com

Thanks!

I'm waiting for them to approve my registration to their forums.  If you have another way to contact them, that would be great!

I've just posted all over Facebook about this, and found a few stations I had never heard of, so hopefully they'll start getting back to me soon™.  :)

Excellent!  That is exactly the idea I had behind integrating these events.  Not all of us can play for 24 hours, but we can cheer on those who do and provide a rest stop and rallying point.  I myself won't be able to be around for the full 24 hours, but I'll be kicking things off on The Cape Radio and Virtue at 8am eastern on the 20th.

Park your toon in Atlas Park or Mercy Island whenever you need a break.  If you're on a Task Force or AE mission, you won't auto AFK or logout.

So far we have three radio stations on board:
Virtue - The Cape Radio
Guardian - AFK Radio
Justice - The Dark Radio

I've contacted several others and am hoping to hear back soon™  ;D

Very very awesome. That is the strong point of this community. Being able to pull together and make things happen.

I see nothing for Victory server on the 20th. In between the dancing and the torch holding and the for life event. I see nothing like a radio station or what not for Victory server. SO I will be there with my main all decked out in my finest costume and if people want I have a AE mission that has a Krono's Titan Robot in it that we can defeat and I can if asked to change its Name to NCsoft. like the heroes battling the giant Corp for there right to play the game. it will have to be after say 2:00 pm EST before I can get on I have work that morning. (Yea! Lets hear it for half days).

I will put some toons in Justice that day with torches, but I have to work for 12 hours so will not acually be there till after 8 at night. I will be afk all day. Toons will hold the torches though providing we don't crash the server like what happened in the original rally. I was booted off and was not home to put toons back on after the server crash.

I see there are a few DJs directly checking in on this thread. Just in case you haven't gotten a copy yet, here is a link to the parody song "I Want My City Back". It debuted last week on the Mad Music Top 20 Countdown at #1. I hope you can use it this weekend.

Thanks DrewBlue!  I am trying to direct stations here, but I still haven't had as much response as I'd like.  But we have four stations on board now, and that's awesome!

Freedom - Radio Paragon - http://www.radioparagon.com (http://www.radioparagon.com)
Guardian - AFK Radio - http://www.afkradio.com (http://www.afkradio.com)
Justice - The Dark Radio - http://www.thedarkradio.com (http://www.thedarkradio.com)
Protector - KJSR.net - http://kjsr.net (http://kjsr.net)
Virtue - The Cape Radio - http://www.thecaperadio.com (http://www.thecaperadio.com)

Hoping to get a few more before the weekend!  If you know any DJs for other stations, please direct them here.  Also, they do not need to be CoH-exclusive stations, they just need the ability to broadcast from their chosen or assigned server and listeners who play CoH.  I'm specifically looking for stations for Pinnacle and Victory, since those have been mentioned as servers people will definitely be playing on.  I'll keep this thread updated as I hear from more.

I'm not very good with figuring out time zones and the letter designations usually mean nothing to me.  But at 8:25am eastern time, I found a world clock with the major cities, so this might help:

Crystallum has been holding her torch high as much as possible the last couple of weeks.  However, this weekend she will not be idle.

I am going to be giving it my all to make sure she finishes her journey to 50 before Nov. 30th.

I will be trying to demorecord everything I can to document her fight to reach her destiny.
