Title: SOS - save our stories.
Post by: JWBullfrog on September 12, 2012, 11:59:06 PM

Please forgive me if this has been suggested before. I'm new to the Titan forums.

Over the years there have been quite a few CoX players that have devoted the time and effort to creating their own fiction for the game. Quite a bit of that fiction has been posted to the City forums. There has been talk about saving images and other parts of the game but I am not sure anyone has mentioned this aspect of our community. All of these stories, long and short, simple and complex, are part of our shared lore of the game. Some of it has even made it's way into  actual game lore.

None of it deserves to be lost.

If there isn't already a section of these forums set up for this, I beg the indulgence of the Titan Network in setting up a spot where fans can archive old stories and post new ones.

I'd like to think that this will all be unneccesary, but should the worst happen, wouldn't it be better to have a safe harbor?

I'll give you even better than a section of the boards.  Titan has a sister site to the Paragon Wiki called the Ouroboros Portal (http://ouroportal.com/).  Anything you could safely post on the CoH boards (the T for Teen rating is enforced) can be saved there.

Thank you.

Is there a simple guide to posting information on O-Portal without wrecking the existing information? I have tried to enter a new article (aka fiction) and, in my bumbling about, I fear I may be doing more harm than good.

If you created a new page, you're highly unlikely to do any damage at all.

Probably the easiest way to get started is to create a new page and paste whatever text you want into the page.  It might not look very well formatted, but learning basic wiki markup has a pretty low learning curve and the admins (the same admins that take care of Paragon Wiki) can help walk you through how to do that.

There are also some useful pages on how to edit a wiki located on Paragon Wiki:  here (http://paragonwiki.com/wiki/Help:Contents#Editing_Wikis)

I took a look at the recent changes over on Ourportal and extracted the story you were trying to add, placing it on its own page.  http://ouroportal.com/wiki/First_Day_%28Fiction%29

Thank you. I shall look over those tips when I have a bit more time.

Additionally, make sure you save any of your work to your own computer, and possibly to Google Drive or Dropbox. Even though none of those places is 100% infallible, the more places your stories are saved the less likely they are to be lost. Plus, they're probably mostly text, which doesn't take up a whole lot of file space.
