Title: Bob Seger support?
Post by: Moonfyire101 on September 12, 2012, 12:31:14 AM
Ok so my dad knows Bob Seger and a few other famous guys. He told me that as soon as he gets out of the hospital, 2-5 days, he can call him and some other people and see if they will contact NCSoft with a similar proposal as the other celebs. Dad has cancer and loves this game more than anything so he wants to save it as bad as we do. The prospect of getting Bob's help looks pretty good. Dad said he's a real nice guy. Let's all hope for more celeb support and I'd appreciate it if everyone thanked him if he does agree to help us. I'll update you when i get the news.

Pardon me, I'm about to have a fanboy moment...

Sorry.  I'm back now.  Bob Seger's just the apotheosis of cool...

OK, I'm done.  I promise I'll try really hard not to go all fanboy again until after I'm done typing this out.  (It's not my fault.  I grew up in MI.)

But yes, that would be pretty cool to have Bob Seger endorse the game.  It'd be awesome if he actually played, too.  But I think we'd need more motorcycles.

Fan boy all you like in a letter telling him how greatful you are if he does this. Maybe my dad can get him to play with us sometime if we save it too.

Ty for the hugs. Invite me anytime you see me. @MoonFyire

Statue my fanny. If this gets pulled off with SegerSupport, we need a Guitar option in the Mace set. (Should make a good mix with the Valentine toga for Belushi fans to boot.) That...is...awesome.

Yeah, but then we'd have to hear all the same ol' clichés, "Is that a woman or a man?"...

Seriously, if this comes through and we can get even so much as a statement like, "I hope those guys can save the game that is their passion" or... heck... I don't care, but any kind of support, it would be epic.  Let me know if there's anything I need to do or can do to help.  And thanks a TON for chasing down this channel.  I've loved Bob Seger since I was a kid.  My sister saw him in concert just a few months ago, and I was jealous.  She came to see me the weekend before and we played his album while riding around in the car.  I'm not exaggerating when I say that whenever people ask me what kind of music I like, my stock answer is, "I like that old time rock and roll.  Give me Seger, Frampton, Pink Floyd, The Who, Browne,...  and I'm in heaven."

Heck, if this pans out, I may nominate a Seger song for our unofficial anthem. "Runnin' Against the Wind"? I don't know.

Yeah, first thing I thought of when I heard this....

*hangs head, knows it's a quick and dirty parody...*

Dust off that scrapper, get your tanker set
Hit the Hive with your Corruptor's pets
Grab a Blaster or Flavor of the Month
It's time to feed the Hamidon

Don't try to take me to the D, oh no!
You'll never get me on that second floor
In 10 minutes I'll be hitting the store
I like that old time Hamidon

(Chorus)
Still like that old time Hamidon
The kinda raid that just soothes the soul
I reminisce about the builds of old
With that old time Hamidon

Won't go to fight no Rikti
I'd rather farm AE for ticket gold
There's only one sure way to get me to go
Invite me to a Hamidon

Call me a relic call me what'cha will
Say I'm out dated say I'm over the hill
Today's raids ain't got the same soul
I like the old time Hamidon!

(Chorus 4 times)

I still like that old time Hamidon!

*retreats and hides*

I don't know what part of the country you're in, but I've heard nothing but good things about Forsyth Cancer Center (http://www.facingcancerwithforsyth.com/#) (audio-enabled link) in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. I know a patient that's undergoing an almost-off label treatment there, so they're up on the bleeding edge of research. In my region, Vanderbilt (Nashville, Tennessee) also has a good reputation.

In between classes today, I'll try to track down a chemotherapy specialist. What kind of sarcoma are we looking at?

I'm in MI, he has medicaid so where ever he goes they will have to take that becuase we don't have money. Just becuase he knows famous people doesn't mean he has money. I'll check out those links and to answer someone else's question. I forget what type, all i know is it is a progressive form of bone cancer which attacks soft tissue instead. Supposed to be very rare. Sarcoma is the only part of the name i remember.

Would that be Soft-Tissue Sarcoma?

You are in MI, and I know for a FACT that Mayo Clinic  http://www.mayoclinic.org/ (http://www.mayoclinic.org/) in Michigan takes Medicaid patients (someone I know who had only Medicaid went there to be treated).  Have you tried there?  Here is their page of Clinical Trials (experimental treatments) for soft-tissue sarcoma, but because they are so big if it isn't soft-tissue sarcoma they probably have a clinical trial going for whatever it is.   http://www.mayoclinic.org/soft-tissue-sarcoma/clintrials.html (http://www.mayoclinic.org/soft-tissue-sarcoma/clintrials.html)

Actually, the Mayo Clinic is in Minnesota.  (My dad had to be examined there when I was but a wee lad, but I remember the road trip from MI.)

Really hoping the best for your father. I'm not sure if this is something you've already looked into, but I don't think it's been mentioned yet, but the NIH has a good listing of lots of different clinical trials:

http://clinicaltrials.gov/ct2/results?term=sarcoma

If for some reason the link doesn't work, http://clinicaltrials.gov will get you to the site.

Thanks for the links. He's at UofM hospital right now. He was just talking about the Mayo clinic if U of M has no more ideas and the link with the open trials was perfect. He said he's gonna ask his Dr. about them and he's gonna try that next. I appreciate it guys. It's soft tissue sarcoma and they have alot of trials for that right now. I feel so much better.

Man, I lost both my mom and my dad to cancer, so believe me when I say, I hope your dad kicks its ass.  I have a VERY personal grudge against the disease.  If I could collect every cancer cell in the world in one huge vat and set them on fire just for the pleasure of hearing them scream, I'd do it.  Unfortunately, I don't know of any experimental treatments, especially ones that involve gathering the cells in a vat and setting it on fire.  :(  The other posters have a lot more info than I do, so I'll defer to them.  But I really, truly hope that he comes through okay.

Aye. My grandfather died of cancer, and my Dad's only several years out from his bout of stage 4.

I hope that those handling his treatment provide the utmost of their skills.

I lost my mom to cancer as well. Coincidentally, she was a *huge* Bob Seger fan and went to see him in concert on several occasions. She knew every word to every song. Echoing TonyV's words a bit, if cancer had a face I'd punch it forever.

I sincerely wish your dad all the best and definitely keep us posted on his progress. I know from experience that it sometimes helps to just feel like you aren't in it alone.

Hi,

Being located in Ireland, I unfortunate cannot say anything useful on what places to go, so I'd best stay out of this and leave it to people who may have information. I do however want you to know that I hope and pray that your Dad will manage to beat this thing - all the best for him and your entire family!

Looking at this thread , it is heartening  to see how many true heroes are playing this game and how much people care for each other. If this world was fair, someone out there would see that this community itself is worth saving  the game - I have never seen anything like it before ...

An upcoming endorsement from Bob Seger himself is indeed the very best of news - I am also a huge fan of his music, and having him on our side is brilliant.

I don't know you guys but I think there is a post about using the money that we are not paying for the game in Charity.
I am not really convinced to use Charity as a way to be heard for the purpose to save this game. As much as I love it I won't use it that way.
But, I am also convinced that we are truly heroes, and heroes don't expect any kind of gain for their actions. I have several powers whit in the game but none actually saved a real life. I have a little power in the outside world and I think we all have it. So I am going to offer that power to you, Moonfyre. It is not much but if you can give us an account number I will be happy to help.
