Title: Site restoration/upgrade issues
Post by: TonyV on November 06, 2011, 05:11:34 PM
Hey all, I'm going to post this as a one-off post to solicit any issues or problems you're having with the Titan Network sites since we upgraded the software and restored service.  Please post as much information as you can, including any error messages you get and a full description of the problem.  (Please give us more than, "It's not working!"  ;)  We need to know exactly how it's not working.  What exactly are you seeing?  What are you supposed to be seeing?)

Thanks in advance for your help and patience!

I cannot get Titan Sentinel to log in - the error I get is "Unable to log into tracking site". I have verified that my user name/password works on the main Titan site as well as the city info tracker site. Titan Sentinel is showing the following version/data information:

Software Version: 0.9.4e
Mids Info Version: 21.01
Manifest Version: 2120.201110270112.1
Game Client Version: Detection... (I don't have CoX running right now)

When I do have CoX running, the Game client version doesn't match the manifest version and since I can't login to the tracking site, I can't download any updates.

If you want any other info, I can try to dig it up.

I had the same issue with Titan Sentinel so I just used the password reset tool ( http://www.cohtitan.com/forgot ) and got my new password.  Now my old password is incorrect, and my new one doesn't log in; it doesn't error, it just spins the wheels on my browser for a moment (like 1/4 second) and goes right back to that same page as if I didn't log in.  Trying my old password gives me an 'incorrect username/password!' error.

I'm not even sure if this post will work, but...

2120.201110270112.1 is the current CoH build, and manifest file.  The webservice is also still down, or was on Tony's last update on the CoH Forums: http://boards.cityofheroes.com/showthread.php?p=3965481#post3965481
QuoteSecond, there seems to be a minor issue going on with the webservice that I'm working on ironing out that's preventing Sentinel from logging in to it. I'll post an update as I find out anything.

Right, we got the webservice fixed, Sentinel should be able to log in and pull the latest manifest now.

Sentinel is tracking my badges but isn't sending them or updating my character profiles even when I click send info now. No error messages or anything.

I'm not sure if this is related to changes made in the upgrades or not, but I'm finding on the new desktop that with the Avast Web Shield running, Sentinel is unable to connect to the webservice.  I didn't figure out what was blocking Sentinel until it was already late, but every combination of dumbing down the Web Shield and adding exceptions for CIT that I could think of at the time was unable to permit Sentinel to send data through with the sheild running.  Sentinel only sent data with the Web Shield stopped entirely.

Admittedly, this new computer is the first time I've actually tried out Avast, so I wouldn't go so far as to say I'm as familiar with what to tweak as in McAfee's Security Center.  However, Sentinel was working (for the most part - there was still that issue with characters with custom avatars) prior to the down time without any tweaking of the Web Shield.

It might just be me, but if anyone running Avast has encountered issues with Sentinel, try turning off the Web Shield briefly and seeing if Sentinel is able send data while that's off.

I disabled Avast! and still wasn't able to update my character.  I think there is a configuration error or bug somewhere.  I'll take a look at it when I get home tonight.  It's not the database account, I checked for all accounts' old passwords and couldn't find any, and the files have been updated with the new passwords.  It might be a permissions issue, since the back-end code of the webservice site hasn't changed.

Did you restart Sentinel after disabling Avast?  If not, Sentinel was probably in runaway mode by that point.

I'm pretty sure I did, yes.  I'll check when I get home.  At any rate, I did do a tail -f on the access log so that I could see in realtime site hits, and when I clicked the "send my data" button, I did see a site hit.  I do think it's sending the data.

I can confirm that although Sentinel is seemingly sending data the badge data is not being processed for some reason.

CityInfoTracker correctly shows which character is online but newly awarded badges are not being updated.  An example of this is http://cit.cohtitan.com/character/2158 - my actual badge total is 181, it's been a while since I logged this guy on :)

Is there any way of getting debug info out of Sentinel to see if there are any errors being returned?

Herostats won't update me either.  The connection test passes but when I try to send badge data it tells me "No update is needed at this time".  I've bumped logging up to debug on HS but there are no messages related to talking to CIT.

EDIT:

Sorry, forgot to add if I go to http://cit.cohtitan.com/manage/badges/Veteran/2158 and try to manually add the badges I get a database error message (no details other than that)

Does the webservice have write permissions to the database?

Yup, it's got the standard SELECT, INSERT, UPDATE, and DELETE privileges, and in addition, I think it's also got EXECUTE for stored procedures.

I disabled Avast! and Sentinel now recognizes I'm online, grabs the picture and sends badge data.

Go figure.

Does anyone know if there's a way to let Avast know that Titan/Sentinel are safe so I don't have to disable it completely each time to track toons?

As an additional note, all my badges were not being update, even with Avast disabled. I tried restarting the program and doing /infoself again but most of my toons still had a 20+ badge discrepancy.

This is a known issue.

Badges not being tracked SHOULD be fixed now.

COH Faces...faces.cohtitan.com...is also not working.  Wasn't sure if you guys were aware of this or not.

Faces being unavailable is deliberate. Only sites that are confirmed as being clean are being set live. See also:

Faces is going to take a while.  It's got a lot of holdovers from Php 4 days, and the version of CodeIgniter it was running on is really old.  I'm having to rewrite large chunks of code to bring it up to date.  I'm sorry for the extended delay on getting the site up.

Paragon wiki is not playing nice with Firefox 8, when searching for "tank" and clicking on the link that leads to the tank archetype the white parts of the page turn blue as well as the white parts of firefox itself (aka the search bar and address bar)

That sounds pretty odd.  I tried it myself (also Firefox 8.0) and everything looked normal.

Can we get an information post to the active sites that tell the user to change/reset their titan key (even to the same as before) so that they can long into the new forums.   ;-)

On my Android phone and got some strange error text.  It's a very long string appearing before the blue "Important Notice" box, and will attempt to shorten it here...

Warning: apc_store(): Potential cache slam averted for key 'live_wikidata_en-pw_:messages:individual:Ouroboros_Portal' in /var/www/cohtitan.com/wiki/public_html/w/includes/BagOStuff.php on line 537

The above is repeated 11 more times except for the bolded area which is replaced with the following:

Recentchanges-url
Recentchanges
Randompage-url
Randompage
Helppage
Help
Site_support
Http://faces.cohtitan.com
Http://www.splasher.com.ar/

I have accessed the site numerous times in the past on this phone without problems.  Not sure if this is part of the problem that hit or not, but figure better play it safe and alert you to this in case it is.

Edit:  just loaded the wiki home page again, but nothing this time.  Still think you should know.

I'll take a look at it when I get home.  APC cache slams should show up in the error log.  I vaguely remember seeing this error before and working to fix it; I'll have to do a little digging to figure out what I did.

Just realized that I'm not getting emails from forum notifications.  Did this get hooked up with the upgrade to SMF?
