Hey all,
As some of you probably already know, we have had some folks at the Titan Network decide to leave, including the people who are primarily responsible for maintaining Mids' Hero Designer, Glycerine, and the City of Data and City Info Tracker sites.
I've deliberately waited a few days to post about the subject for a few reasons. Primarily, I wanted to give everyone at least a few days to focus on the new Going Rogue (http://paragonwiki.com/wiki/Going_Rogue) expansion and Issue 18 (http://paragonwiki.com/wiki/Issue_18) and not worry about what's going on at the Titan Network.
Also, since everything happened rather suddenly and without a graceful handoff of code and information, we've been taking a few days to assess where we are now before attempting to move on. We are aware of the importance that this week has been in the game's history, with such a large (in size, scope, and significance) expansion being released. Because of this, we have been in "change freeze" mode when it comes to the sites themselves. If it ain't broke, we ain't fixing it, at least for the next week or two.
That's not to say that we aren't working, though, on bringing the sites back up to date quickly and with the level of support that you all have grown to expect. I've already been talking to some new developers who have expressed interest in the projects, and we hope to make some announcements soon (not Soon™). The past few days, I have also been gathering our resources and downloading and personally inspecting the code, even making a few tweaks to fix odd errors as I find them, to be updated and rolled out in the near future.
The good news is that the lion's share of changes are back-end database changes. The numbers for City of Data, the new powersets in Mids', the new badges in City Info Tracker, and so on. These updates are relatively easy--a few clever scripts, and we're back on top of things. We've already started running some testing to get a lot of this data updated, and we will post more information as we are able to roll it out. Also, the team that is responsible for the Paragon Wiki, as well as the moderation crew for Faces, is intact and still feverishly making updates, meaning that those sites are affected very little past the normal level of activity following a major release.
The bad news is that there was one huge mechanic added to the game, the ability to switch sides, that is going to be a somewhat significant amount of work and some time to implement across the applications and sites, and there's another huge mechanic, the Incarnate system, that is just around the corner and that we are already looking ahead to.
We will implement these features and many more, but we ask for your patience. I've always tried to be as open and forthcoming with our status for the sites, whether it's cool new stuff or the occasional lumps we've had to get over. This is a mixture of both, a chance to reboot some things to pave the way forward as well as a challenge to meet the high expectations the community has set for us. We'll do our best!
Thanks for the heads up TonyV. No handoff of code? ??? Yikes. What kind of impact will this have on the timeline of the process? I wish the remaining team the best of luck, and thanks for your forthrightness about the current situation. I've been using this site and its resources for a few years now and I've always been impressed with its maintainers. No coding skills here, but I've always meant to sign up on Pwiki and help contribute but never got around to it. If volunteers are still welcome, I can at least help out that way. :) Good luck all!
Well, sort of no handoff of code. We do have code repositories in which code was periodically checked in, but one or two of them weren't up-to-date as they should have been. I don't want to convey that we're starting from scratch on existing projects, because with all of them, we have at least most of what we had before. The thing that is most difficult is the lack of knowledge transfer, but we've got a competent crew, and I'm confident in everyone's ability to come up to speed quickly.
A timeline will be a bit more difficult, at least for now. We think we just about have CIT nailed down, but I don't want to say, "A week," then find some gnarly issue that will push it out a month. Plus, schedules (especially my own) have this nasty habit of biting you just as you're in a final push to get something finished.
As I get closer, though, I will try to post as much info on our progress as I can.
Definitely understandable re: timeline, especially as we all tend to forget about that little thing called "real life" which pops up and can be annoying to our gaming time now and again. ;) I hope the transition goes smoothly! Thanks for being so open about the process. :)
My Toons have NOT Updated for 14 Days, is this related to Re: Changes at Titan?
I have re-installed Glycerine, and tried a number of other ways to get my Toons & Badges to update, but nothing seems to work. Please help.
???
Define "updated".
Do you mean that new badges you've collected haven't been showing up?
Or do you mean that if you look at your My Characters page, that none of your characters appear to have been online in the last 14 days?
Also, have you tried the workaround mentioned here (http://www.cohtitan.com/forum/index.php/topic,3235.msg32499.html#msg32499)?
