It's that time again! From now until April 9th, the community can suggest names for the 14th Anniversary badge. A poll to select the definite winner will go up on April 10th until April 30th. That's 20 days for this thread, and 20 days for the voting thread.

The rules are the same as last year: it has to be one word, and it should be usable to describe a character; "Celebrant" is someone who celebrates, "Rhapsodic" is someone who is exceptionally emotional, "Torchbearer" is someone who carries a torch, "Timeless" is someone who is not affected by the passage of time. We're following the same theme.

Similarly when it comes to theme, this is a celebration of the game's anniversary! It should have positive connotations. "Punisher" or "Tyrant" really won't do. There's a lot of discussion about it that you can refer to in last year's threads, so they are linked at the bottom. No name is being grandfathered in, they all need to be nominated by someone in this thread in order to make the cut.

Right off the bat, I'm going to nominate last year's runners up:  Timeless and Everlasting.  Both were good choices then, and still are.

Undying and Relentless were Debt Repayment badges. Eternal was a Veteran Badge.

As in, "City of Heroes remains the standard by which other games are judged".

Going to throw "Spirited" back in the ring.  We hold the City in our hearts and Paragon Chat gives us the Spirit of the City.  We are a very "Spirited" community in keeping the torch lit.

Seeing as how I have a few time-power related characters, "Timeless" garners my vote.

Among other prior Anniversary Badges: Celebrant, Reveler, Pursuer/Elusive, Merrymaker, Entertainer, Jubilant, Exultant, Lucky, Rhapsodic.

Any other badge name can searched on Paragon Wiki (https://paragonwiki.com), so folks can see if the name is already used as a badge or not.

I'm going to throw in a couple of suggestions, Unflinching and Indelible. (I also still like Spirited.)

Unflinching because, what are you nuts?--Unflinching doesn't need an explanation; you wear a badge title like that because you're a bad ass, 'nuff said. And basically, that's this community in a nutshell. (Although I can't take credit for the suggestion, I saw it thrown around somewhere by somebody else, I can't remember.)

Indelible doesn't pack as much punch, but it doesn't have to. Looking at Tahquitz's examples above, not every badge title needs to one-up the last title in defiant vigor. Some of them were just about giving a celebratory or sentimental vibe, not necessarily a vibe drenched in conflict.

And originally I was going to throw Resurgent into the ring; but I wanted to see whether anyone else would think to. (And other than Lithy throwing it out as a drunken afterthought, no one has. ;D)

I can't think about that word (Resurgent) without also thinking about the day Zwillinger announced a new powerset just hours before NCSoft ambushed and canned Paragon Studios, and mere weeks before a feature-packed Issue 24 would have released. Two new powersets had just been introduced the previous month. Three new powersets and a new power pool were planned for release within the next month.

Issue 24: Resurgence.

I've always hoped the community would choose it as a badge title (Resurgent) when it's the most likely to be a proper <expletive> gut-punch to NCSoft to avenge their horrible mismanagement of our game and community and one of the best dev teams ever; such as when games like City of Titans, Ship of Heroes, Valiance Online and Heroes and Villains are launching (Btw whatever happened to AP Revival?). You might think NCSoft would never notice; but if timed right, the gaming press would certainly help us make NCSoft notice, and it would benefit the spiritual successors with extra publicity.

But regarding these games, right now I kind of feel like the general sentiment out there on Facebook and forums and such is more on the side of, "Show me; I can be as supportive as all get-out, but still say show me." And I totally think fans can be forgiven for being both supportive and realistic. :)

A cheer for Everlasting!  No offense Capt. Electric, but your rant pitch sounded more like a desire to shove a sharp stick in NCSoft's (let's say) eye than about celebrating the game's legacy.  Fact is, Resurgent simply doesn't apply.  The game has had zero players for five and a half years, and resurged by exactly zero more in these last 365 days.  With 84 people voting, it's hard to even apply the word to the community as a whole.  And as for the sharp stick, do you think anyone from NCSoft bothers with the Titan Network?  Pay lawyers to hunt through it daily looking for something actionable sure, but actual employees?  I could not get behind you.  I was stunned that nomination was allowed being neither accurate nor in the spirit of the contest.
Two cheers for Everlasting!  Most entries had to be propped up with a sales pitch; which, if you need to explain... meh.  I provide my single word and it was still taken out of context!  I meant 'originator of the genome'.  If I'd had to pitch it?  "This year, as all the heirs apparent and spiritual successors of City move into Alpha and Beta testing, it is clear that those design groups feel a sense of lineage – they are inspired by and consider themselves descendants of City of Heroes.  Which makes our game the granddaddy, progenitor, or (drumroll) patriarch of all that is soon to happen."
I'd much prefer 'male head of family' over blueprint, prototype, or any other nonliving synonym of precedence.  Everlasting is six-degrees-of-Kevin-Bacon from my offering, but it does invoke a sense of grace and grandeur and age that I can get behind.  I like it.  I support it.  Three cheers for Everlasting!

I'm surprised you're allowed, being neither accurate nor in the spirit of the contest. (I'm only being cheeky, don't go nuts. :D) But seriously, by your own criteria, Everlasting is even less accurate than Resurgent, because the game is even less everlasting than it is resurgent. But you're again inaccurate to imply the Titan Network is the community. It isn't. The wider community is spread across spiritual successors and other forums where veterans gather to either reminisce or collectively soldier on (or both). But this is why Resurgent might one day apply: these anniversary badges aren't game badges as much as they're community badges. And in that spirit, I totally agree with you that Everlasting is an appropriate badge; I even agree with you that Resurgent isn't. But I very much disagree that it couldn't ever be -- if the community earned it, with a lot of hard work that's admittedly unprecedented for an MMO community. But if you're "stunned" that Resurgent is even allowed, maybe you have less faith in the folks in this community than you ought to.
