The music is terrible until it gets so cheesy bad that it's awesome. I kinda like the suit with the gold trim we get a glimpse of on tape better than the one with glowing bolts. All in all, though, I think it was a good first episode.
Wow that was an amazing pilot episode! I'm speechless. I really don't know what to say about this pilot. It's a great episode and I highly encourage you guys to watch it! So Black Lighting is an Electric/Electric Blaster. 8)
Oh, I didn't realize there was already a thread. welp
<moderator hat>
I merged the two threads.

I watched it this morning and I like it.
There's a distinctly different feel from the other DC shows stemming from the premise that he's not in his 20s and didn't just recently discover his powers and decide to start fighting crime. He's an old pro coming out of retirement. He already knows what his powers and do and he employs them in a manner that shows he's pretty obviously comfortable with them.
The character struggle here won't be on whether he can find a way to generate more electricity than he did last week ("Run faster, Barry."), it'll be on trying to balance the responsibilities of his very well established family and public lives with the hero life. And I'm sure the promise he made his ex-wife is going to come up again, even if she did let him off the hook this one time.
I liked it. Hope the series is as good.
Is BL on Earth 1 or Supergirl's Earth? If not then another Earth they can have for a crossover.
Say, where do I recognize the tailor from...

one would think SG's would be more likely since the Flash one doesn't have free range metas.
I liked the premiere mostly but I'm worried that you can already see the seeds of Smallville 6.0 brewing.

'free range metas' I like that.
If I recall, it's been stated that there are currently no plans to cross over Black Lightning with the existing DC properties currently on-air. I suspect that will change if it's popular enough to make it to season 2. That would also seem to indicate that this takes place on one of the other Earths we haven't been introduced to yet.
Whatever world he is on, he isn't the only one with powers.
I went in not knowing how good this was going to be but I had my hopes and I have to say I was very pleased with the show and thought it was pretty good. Plus come on... he shot him with a harpoon gun!

They said the same thing about Supergirl, if I recall correctly.
It made more sense with Supergirl as it was on a different network the first season.

Yup.
The biggest hurdle in crossing over with Supergirl at the time was that Supergirl filmed in Los Angeles while Flash and Arrow film in Vancouver. When they switched networks with Supergirl, they also joined the rest of the properties up in Vancouver.
Black Lightning is currently filming in Atlanta, so there are logistics issues with any crossovers similar to the ones they had with Supergirl in season 1.
Whoa Nellie!
Let's at least see the second episode before we get into a frenzy about a potential crossover!
I have to admit I wasn't sure how the show would be but I was pleasantly impressed with the first episode. I like how he seems to have a good handle on what his powers can do as well as... well who doesn't enjoy seeing someone shot with a harpoon?

Yeah. In a way I hope they don't eventually do a crossover.
The 'feel' of the show wouldn't really fit in with the Flash or Supergirl or Legends. Arrow maybe, since its a similar type.
It's a long shot but could we end up seeing 'Black Lightning and the Outsiders'? Or perhaps just the 'Outsiders'?

Always possible, though none of them really fit with the show as it's set up so far. They've teased Metamorpho in some of the other shows and Tatsu was in Arrow. But really would you go out of your way to bring in any of the others? They were terrible characters. The only half decent run of that book was Winick's which had Anissa but not Jefferson.
"Darkies" wasn't a word I was expecting to hear.
I initially liked that suit way back in the teaser/promos. But the more I see it the worse it looks. I think the main problem is that the bolts look too puffy and rounded.

Seems they might make this a more 'realistic' show. (Super powers aside).
Not fill it up with other metas and alternate Earths and all that.
"Black Lightning, my man!" Favorite line the of the episode! lol ;D
I'm hoping for a Mr. Bee Boo (sp?) crossover.

Agreed. The outfit is a bit ridiculous. Hopefully, they will refine it like they have for the other shows.

Well The Outsiders were featured in the latest episode - sort of.
Alright, having the boy who's dating his daughter that BL just put the fear of sex into get conveniently shot through the spine might be trying to cram in a bit too much drama.

An Outsider with an Outsider comic talking to another Outsider is pretty far beyond sorta for a 3rd episode.

I agree. Unfortunately, it's the CW. :( The 3rd episode was a let down for me... I was disappointed.

It would've been a bit less eyeroll worthy, at least.
Or, the show could have gone into full on soap mode by having the bullet graze his head leaving him with amnesia.
This shows why I don't think secret IDs work in real life.
Jefferson goes and talks to Two Butts or Bits or whatever.
Then later comes back as Black Lighting and basically looks like Jefferson wearing goggles.
He has the same haircut/style, same face shape, same facial hair.
But not as fun as the old Batman show where Comm Gordon talks to both Batman and Bruce Wayne on the phone, and they have the EXACT same voice and he doesn't even notice.
Say what you want about the Green Lantern film but they got that part right - Carol saw through Hal's mask in like two seconds.
In one of the earlier episodes someone noted that there was something weird about trying to look at BL's face. Presumably there's an element of disguise there beyond what the audience sees.

Maybe like the Flash vibrates his face. Yet Barry doesn't seem to do that anymore. Sometimes he doesn't even bother disguising his voice.
Could be a specialized EMF.
I just thought an idea. Black Lightning could have used his electricity to stimulate the boy's nervous system and make him walk again for a short period of time. 8)

No need when, at this point, seemlingly all of Central City, some of Star City, and even National City on another Earth knows Barry is The Flash.

Well last episode that number went down a few.
I was expecting in the trial if Iris told the court Barry was the Flash they all would have said in unison "We know."

His spinal cord was severed so that wouldn't work.
However maybe his tailor could come up with something.
"Consider this the Black Signal." That line made me chuckle.
And I thought it was cool the way he admonished those cops to try using a taser instead of guns. That was a good street level superhero moment.
Gambi's shady, secretive behaviour annoys me. Because it has me curious, but I also feel like it's an obvious writer's ploy to incite curiosity.
And I liked Thunder's costume and associated montage.
Sigh, that was like a CWverse bingo card of an episode. Powers not working. Runs off half cocked to do something rite nao that could easily be put off til his powers were fixed. mysterious familial past tied to the current story. ally with secret ties to villains.
But I can't stay annoyed when Huggy Bear shows up.
I'm concerned about his ever growing power set.

Guess the thing with the missing kids and the formula is this universe's version of the accelerator explosion.
I assume we will run into more super powered people soon enough.
Probably the girl will found out her father was one was of those kids.

Except I don't consider that a real reference. More just an easter egg for fans.
I don't think BL and Flash will cross over at any point... well maybe after a couple seasons. But I do think it would be a good idea if Gambi from BL were to cross over to Flash to have a subplot involving his brother. Unfortunately Flash has pretty much exhausted his device using rogues gallery already and given all of them (except for Mick and Rory) meta powers instead of gadgets. I dunno, maybe team Flash figures out how to depower metas instead of just block the powers so Gambi comes up with costumes that fit their already established theme.
I never read Black Lightning comics so I looked it up.
Show is actually pretty faithful in a lot of ways. Same names, ex wife, same villains - the 100, Tobias, daughter has density control called Thunder.
In the comics the other daughter has electric powers as well. I wonder if they will do that here as well.
The original concept back in 1977 for DC's first black super hero was "The Black Bomber" - a white racist who turns black when he gets angry and gains super powers.
Luckily everyone thought that was an incredibly bad idea so we got Black Lightning instead.

Sounds more like a villain. In another universe he could've stood shoulder to shoulder with the likes of Hatemonger and Flagsmasher.

They actually had a character cameo: "Brown Thunder" for one of their alternate universe stories or something - a take on the original concept.
Until that last episode I had no idea that albinos don't age. Always learn so much from CW shows.
That was actually mentioned a couple of weeks ago when he's confronting Gambi. Tobias and his sister, Tori, were given a serum to slow their aging.
Who knows what evil lurks in the hearts of men? The Tailor knows...
I wondered why Tobias's guys were using those electric rifles. Now I see why. Good idea.
And now we know that BL's Earth is full of high tech weapons.
So we've got confirmation of Vixen and Supergirl in the same universe plus whichever legend or speedster went back to steal Anissa's clothes from Janet Jackson's trailer on the Good Times set.
Love Gambi's high security door shade there in case anyone under 5'8" is trying to spy on his secret conversations.

Not 100% proof. Could have been joking and referring to comic book characters. They did have an Outsides comic book in another episode.
Plus I believe the producers said this has nothing to do with any of the other Arrowverse shows. (at least for now)
I wish my parents had lied to me about being superheroes and that I suddenly discovered I had powers. I promise I wouldn't be a little drama queen about it.

The ASA have a Sapper gun! We need to kill the Sapper first lol! Black Lightning is the best CW DC TV show of all time! I really enjoyed the show. I wonder what season 2 is going to go.
Was cool they showed the origin in the last episode.
Nice break of tradition.
I thought it was kind of bad when the daughter who wasn't in costume started screamed very loudly "Daddy Daddy wake up." to BL.
What if some kids or teachers were still around?
More Gambi high security - drive to your safehouse destination before getting everyone to trash their phones. In case they still can't find you make sure you have the only satellite shielded property in the area apart from the ones owned by the people looking for you.
