Hey, all :D
I played CoX from 2008 to the shutdown in 2012 and, like the rest of us, a lot of that time was spent in PUGs. IMO, one of the best parts of the game was being able to easily join a group and experience all the great poweresets the game had to offer, even if it was secondhand.
But some of those sets always seemed to be less popular or otherwise underrepresented for one reason or another. So I'm curious to know: Which powerset combos did you see least often and why?
For me, it was the thematic combos. CoX gave us a huge amount of creative control over our characters so any two sets could be written to make sense together but I'm talking about obviously matching sets like Archery/TA or Broadsword/SD. Some of that had to do with one of the sets being a little subpar, I'm sure, but considering how forgiving the game was I always thought it was funny to see so many combinations that made me scratch my head and so few pairings that made thematic sense.
Sonic + anything. I guess other folks LOATHED the sound effects that Sonic made as much as I did.
Yeah, Sonic was pretty rare. The SFX never bothered me until I played redside and had to fight those weird little cyclops demons. After that I never even considered rolling a Sonic toon again.
I liked sonic. I always thought it was a shame less people used it. It did give my wife headaches, though, so I understood.
Beam Rifle was one I seldom saw people stick with. Also, Mercenaries and Poison for MMs seemed rare.
Beam rifle took timing and patience. You had to learn how long it took each power to fire after you pulled the trigger. I enjoyed that set a lot.
I never tried Beam Rifle and I only remember seeing it once or twice in-game. I played what I guess would be described as hybrid toons so I was in and out of melee a lot. The Beam powers just seemed to get lost in all the other effects.
Anything/Trick Arrow controllers.
I always saw a ton of potential there for a team build, just because you get more holds. I mentioned it to a friend who made an Illusion/TA toon, and it was his favorite character to team with. Could never do much solo, but on a team nothing had a chance to attack, even AVs, even before sets were around. I kept meaning to make a good set build for him but never got around to it...maybe I will play with it in Mids later.

I had a kinetic / sonic defender. Once I got to 32 all the sonic debuffs and Fulcrum Shift made mobs easy for my team to defeat.
Even solo I was pretty good at wiping out big groups.
Mercenaries for MM
TA for support.
Ice blast and Sonic Blast.
Poison,Sonic Resonance, not very many Mind trollers,Thorny Assault on Doms, and not many Merc MM's.I loved it when people would take sets not popular and really show how any set could could shine with time and understanding.
