Title: How to use NPC models?
Post by: Slid on July 13, 2015, 11:40:01 PM
I saw a Praetor Tilman on last night - using the NPC model rather than something approximated in the costume creator. Since one of my primary RP characters is a Rikti, this is very relevant.

How do I use an NPC model as my avatar in Paragon Chat?

Slid, if you dig into some of the icon threads it's explained there... you need to use icon first, and use the /benpc command (or something similar) to first appear as the NPC, and then save that NPC outfit via a tailor or a save command line in the chat box. Then I guess that, with a little registry hack, you can open it in Paragon Chat and slot it onto a toon.

but I don't know the specifics, just remembering what I read.

I've been digging into the Icon threads trying to find the answer to this for a few days now. If you dig up the answer, Slid, or if someone else is familiar with the exact process, I'd appreciate the heads-up too.

Step 1: Getting NPC costumes

You can open Icon in NPC mode to gain NPC parts in the creator itself, via the directions here: http://paragonwiki.com/wiki/Titan_Icon#Start-up_Parameters or http://www.cohtitan.com/forum/index.php/topic,11076.msg187316.html#msg187316

OR

Use the BeNPC pop menu here to load up NPC costumes in game: http://www.cohtitan.com/forum/index.php/topic,10076.0.html

You can also use the /be_npc command, as explained here (a few lines down): http://paragonwiki.com/wiki/Titan_Icon#Spawning.2C_Moving.2C_Deleting_NPCs

There is a list of NPCs here:

https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1FRh-RUWpn-9GO3h4rvopYTlex6ZoIpeBCOuMlQOty7k/edit#gid=0

or here: http://paragonwiki.com/wiki/Demo_Editing/Demo_Model_Names

Step 2: Database editing

Once you have an NPC costume saved, you have to do some database editing, which I am not super clear on, but there is a thread that explains it here: http://www.cohtitan.com/forum/index.php/topic,11076.0.html

Once I've goten into Icon and done /be_npc, how do I save the .costume file?  I can't figure out how to get back to icon, and /save_costume doesn't seem to do anything.  What did I miss?

Yeah, ICON doesn't allow you to interact with the trainers as tailors or go into the tailor shop.
So how do you sav ethe costume?

You'll have to do a demorecord, then extract the costume from inside of it.

You can also use these commands:

/access_level 9
/costume_save <name>

Notes: The costume name can't have any spaces in it. Also, the file that gets saved is not a .costume file, just a numbered list of the parts. The file gets saved in the data folder and can be opened in Notepad (don't use wordwrap or it will look like a jumbled mess). You can create a temporary System channel and it will display "Costume Saved" in the window if you want.

Oh, and don't bother using the /tailor or /ultra_tailor commands after raising your access level as the /be_npc costumes won't appear. It just restores your original costume.

The file gets saved in the data folder

This is probably key. Using the slash command saves to a different folder (data) than the button in the creator (costumes).
