Title: Screen Resolution Problem
Post by: Lacklustre on July 06, 2015, 04:12:22 PM
I recently got a new laptop and had to install both CoH and Icon, via the link on the Paragon Wiki-
It all downloaded fine and I launched Tequila and from there, Icon. But when the log in page of Icon loaded, I was greeted with a very small resolution, only taking up the middle portion of my screen, it also had cut off most of the log-in screen. Using the options on the log-in page, (which I could thankfully see) I changed the size to my screen's resolution 1920x1080.
That apparently was the wrong thing to do.
Because now my screen is so large and stretched out, that I can't even see, nor navigate to the option to load me into the game after character creation to get to another option menu to fix my resolution.
I'm getting frustrated, and maybe I'm overlooking something- but I feel like my only option is to erase Tequila and re-download the entire client.
Is that my only option to correct what I've done??
What can I do to fix my screen size to fit properly with out it messing up once I reinstall the client?!

Here's a screenshot of what it looks like when I log into Icon:

Any help would be super appreciated!

I don't think uninstalling tequila will help, but we need more info.
You say it's a new laptop, but lots of people say that when it's just "new" to them so I have to ask: which windows version are you running? Is your graphics processor nVidia or AMD or something else? Have you updated your graphics drivers? And have you run any other games on it yet at 1920x1080 and had no issues with them?
Even if I can't help you, this info is good for those who can.

Also, in my experience with Windoze, often a simple reboot will do the trick.

Something similar happened to me too.  I'm doing this from memory, so excuse me if it's slightly off.

Get to the Back button/arrow in the lower left of the starting screen. Hit that and it takes you to the original login screen.  Down below the login boxes is a Settings button.

From the settings you should be able to adjust screen resolution including desktop mode.

Edit:  Remembering that Reading is Fundamental, I now see that you had already reached the Back button and Settings, but your new resolution prevents you from getting there again.  Not sure what to suggest now.

Personally, I always set it to windowed mode, then you can just resize the window to how you like it.  Seeing as it's just a chat client now, you don't really need it full screen.

I wonder if you made a shortcut to your icon.exe executable and added the old cityofheroes.exe command line switch '-fullscreen 0' if it would force windowed mode?

Here's a list of the old switches:  http://paragonwiki.com/wiki/Game_Client (http://paragonwiki.com/wiki/Game_Client)

Do any of the old game client or launcher command line switches still work?

IIRC you can switch to windowed mode simply with the standard keyboard shortcut [Alt]+[Enter].

Correct. They added this in i23 IIRC. Maybe i24, which is the files Tequila grabs.

After fiddling around with it this morning, I discovered if I open 3 instances of Icon, the third will launch in safe mode. From there I can window it and use it that way. Then going through task manager, close out all the other running Icons. Alas, no full screen for me. But at least I found a work-around!

I wasn't able to use alt+tab because that corrupted my entire screen and created the strange resolution of me not being able to do anything or even being able to close out of things. I've never encountered that problem in my life.

I'm running Windows 8, an i7 processor, and a NVIDIA GeForce GTX 860m graphics card, I keep everything up to date, drivers wise, because I play games frequently. A game recently that was pretty heavy handed with graphics is Bioshock Infinite, which runs just lovely on high settings and at 1920x1080.

Thank you guys for your suggestions and your help!  :D
