City of Heroes Anniversary
While this makes me sad, I can say happy anniversary City of. I too hope one day we will be able to fly the skies of City of . Universe again.
It would have been nice to have this in the game, but still I cant believe 10 years ago I saw this on a shelf in COMPUSA and picked it up on a whim, never playing an MMO before. Hooked from the start.

Coh was the mmo game you saw people playing and you immediately had to try it.
Happy anniversary, everyone.

City of Heroes Anniversary
Happy Anniversary CoH, I can't wait to log in again one day. :)
I agree with the sentiment, but I'm gonna wait until tomorrow (http://paragonwiki.com/wiki/Issues) to express it. ;)
Happy Anniversary :)
I remember the first time I logged in, it was either January or February 2009. I had finally decided to give the 2-week trial a shot. Two days into it I was hooked and subscribed. A few months later I dropped the subscriptions I'd been keeping for the other MMOs I was in, and bumped up my CoH sub to yearly. I'd found the place I wanted to be. So I packed my bags and moved to Paragon City.
Happy Anniversary, everyone. :)
So in about 3 weeks is my anniversary. :P
I bought my copy off the shelf at Best Buy two days after the release.
I didn't realize that I was hooked until 5 weeks later when I was sent out of town on business for two weeks.
I started playing the first week (thanks to my son who wanted the game).
Happy Anniversary!!!! Hopefully we'll here the news of City of Heroes return soon. ;D
I started playing in January, 2007, during Issue 8. I'd read about the game in a newspaper article, and decided to give a superhero game a try. (I don't remember if CoH or Guild Wars was my first MMO. I tried GW because all I needed to pay for was the game package itself.)
I eventually found the CoV add-on at Walmart for $10. (I wasn't interested in playing villains, as much as I was in the additional costume pieces and character slots.) It included a month's free play, so, even with the sales tax, they were actually PAYING ME to add CoV to my account. Once I realized that, buying it was a foregone conclusion.
Happy anniversary, my fellow refugees. I look forward to celebrating the next anniversary by flattening a Hellion's nose in Atlas Park.
Now I'll wish everyone a happy 11th anniversary for City of Heroes. Here's a badge for y'all:

Cool! I was wondering how I was going to get this badge! Now perhaps I will go to Icon for awhile and dream.....
How did I get started in CoH? Well, enjoying my uncles' comic books at a young age while watching George Reeves flying around on the TV was a definite influence. Then I started buying my own comics at the age of 11. (Got lots of exercise riding my bike around town, picking up empty soda bottles from strategic locations and turning them in at a local convinence store to feed my original addiction.)
Well, for a couple of years (2002 - 03) Freedom Force was the only superhero game in town, but I had been hearing rumors of a newcomer MMORPG (you know, like the evvilll EverCrack) but dealing with superheroes due to be released 'Soon'. There were actual reviews published in the computer gaming magazines, and there were lots of the typical "this is great" comments by the reviewers. Well, I decided that I'd give it a try sooner or later, but when the reviewers were mentioning that nearly everyone at the publication were playing the game even past the review assignment, I figured this was going to be worth checking out as soon as I could.
About 2 weeks before the game's scheduled release date, copies were on sale at the local GameStop, so I put my money down to give it a try. It came with a pre-release access code, but unfortunately, it didn't run on my 1998 system, which was showing it's age. So I got hold of an 800 Mg Hz blazing Pentium III system with a relatively new video card within the next couple of weeks, and managed to get the game running on opening day, 11 years ago. Needless to say, I fell in love with the game, introduced a new addiction to several of my real life friends and family, and we all had a blast fighting crime together.
Happy Anniversary, CoH!!
I bought the game either a week or two after launch at Target. My brother was the one who talked me into it. I just got my first credit card at that time. Paying for the sub was one of the first credit card purchases I ever made.
Edit to comment: I just realized this is my first post. I've been lurking since 09, haha

Welcome, fellow refugee!
I feel bad for the people that started playing in like 2010 or 11. They ever got a lot of time to play and missed out on a lot.
I think I heard about City of Heroes from online friends in 2004, but I was involved with/playing in text-based games at the time (Hellooooooo, Champions MUSH!). I finally picked up City of Heroes in, I think, May of 2006. Like many of us, I was hooked almost immediately. About 2 weeks later (June of 2006, either just before or just after Issue 7 was released), I went back to the store to get City of Villains. Found it on the shelf for $30.00, went to the register, guy says 'Hey, we're running a special this week. Buy Guild Wars for $40.00 and you get City of Villains for free!' Said to my wife next to me, 'Let's do this. We'll put Guild Wars on your computer and see how you like it.' We were both MMO virgins before this, and she didn't seem too keen on joining me in Paragon City.
So that's what we did. Over the next 90 days or so, my wife racked up over 1100 hours in Guild Wars. This from never having played online games before. As you can see, the math works out to over 12 hours a day, every day. And she kept playing hell-for-leather like that until late 2008, when she finally did join me and don a cape. As I recall, we had almost 200 alts between us, spread across all servers, and were in Atlas Park 33 on Virtue when the screen went black that sad night in 2012.
But though the night has been long, I still have hope that we'll all be fighting the good fight (or living the evil dream!) together again someday soon. :)
Happy Anniversary. I dearly miss this game. :'( I met the love of my life in our beloved city. We spent time fighting crime and causing mayhem together. I miss those days.
Happy Anniversary Everyone! Sorry I'm a day late. :P
Here's the HaV update that we did for the CoH anniversary - http://www.cohtitan.com/forum/index.php/topic,10836.0.html
What really sucked is I had my 'new' PC in 2004 when I bought this. Upgraded a bit here and there over the years with memory and graphic cards, but still had horrible lag, low settings, etc.
Finally I get a brand new PC , and the game plays fantastic - no lag at all anywhere, real looking water, bloom effects, the works.
6 months later they announce the game is being cancelled. NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO! Not after I finally can enjoy it in all its glory.
I didn't try the game until June 2007...
Lots of players then. 8)
after that- I never stopped until D-day.
