Title: International Science Festival
Post by: Joshex on April 16, 2015, 01:36:49 PM
So I was working at the international science festival, I was informed today that the venue I worked at today was closing because the venue (the museum) had organized a strike. The strike was because one of the sponsors of the festival backed out.

I was asked to leave and my boss is not going to like this. That and though they said the strike will only be today and tomorrow I worry about the other venue I need to visit over the weekend, I wonder if they also will do some form of strike over this.

what I want to know is which sponsor backed out. could get ugly if I go on the weekend and it's the same people sponsoring my work there.

You're Scottish?!  You don't sound Scottish.   ;)

The Beeb says it's over weekend pay, nothing about the festival or sponsors.

Kinda a world traveler, multinational. been all over the world.

Studying my masters (MSc) in Scotland, got a job with a market research company that's covering the event. From inside sources they said the strike was formed by the museum's administration and required all staff to leave shortly after 1. Sounds very different in the article, as if the staff were effected or had a choice. Also inside sources said one of the sponsors had backed-out.

First time being part of something in the news, it would seem news reporting these days is almost like the difference between a book (what actually happened) and a movie (the 24th revision after 3 scrapped scripts and artistic re-conception).

Either way thanks for article and aide trying to figure this out, it may well be that the inside sources didn't know what they were talking about and were just speculating. Though it seems odd that staff wouldn't know about the terms of a staff-led strike, it's this last point that makes me trust what the staff said over the article.

Regardless a job is a job, I'll be heading in tomorrow to Summerhall to cover an event in the morning.

Edit; it may be that the staff did strike but festival staff were not informed as to the true reasons.
