Title: EA shutdown Maxis
Post by: Noyjitat on March 05, 2015, 05:46:49 PM
EA killed command and conquer long ago when they shutdown Westwood studios and canceled several highly anticipated games as a result. It's no secret that the last few c&c games have been pretty mediocre.

Well now Maxis the developer of simcity and the sim universe is no more. http://kotaku.com/ea-shuts-down-simcity-developer-maxis-1689454903

It's pretty sad... because the sim universe will likely suffer the same fate.

As sad as this is, I can't really say that I'm surprised, after all this kind of thing is expected from a company like EA at this point.
Hopefully something good might come of it in the long run though, its a long shot to be sure, but we may end up with something similar to a clover games-> Platinum games situation.
Unlikely, but it doesn't hurt to be a little optimistic.

I guess I can now COMPLETELY stop hoping for a revised/updated SimCopter. :( I miss chasing down speeders, rescuing boaters, and plucking citizens from off of burning buildings.

About all that I've found, that comes close, is the Search & Rescue series, and it's more of a serious flight simulator. And I still don't get to douse fires or quell riots.

I recall a project at one point to update sim copter. For now I know a forum somewhere existed with instructions for installing it and running it properly on modern day cpus. Now that you've reminded me I'll have to search around.
