Title: COH Dreams
Post by: impiousimp on September 03, 2014, 04:58:13 AM
Now, I have to preface this by saying that I'm on an anti depressant which is basically a mind altering drug.  It happens that I dream quite often about a variety of things, but no topic I have dreamed about more in the last two years than COH.

I actually can't remember the details, aside from several instances of playing the game, or existing inside the game and then discovering that the game is back in action, only to wake up and it never happened.

Anyone else suffer from dreams like that?

I used to have these a looot.

Oddly enough, my recurring dream was the game would be back... for a month only. Limited time.

It coupled the excitement of having it back, with the sorrow of how empty Paragon was in the last few days. Everyone was there that last night, but as someone flying around before the end... it could be a bit of a ghost town.

Yeah. Flying through empty Paragon seems so lonely. It's a hollow experience, but it's still nice, sometimes, to imagine that you're not alone. That, somewhere, there's someone else flying through empty Paragon alongside you.

I had them all the time the first year or so after the shutdown. I vividly remember one where I was my main, Safehouse, and I was in an Arachnos base. I was running through the halls with my girlfriend's main and we needed to save one of my new characters, Rodney Royce, from imminent destruction. As per his bio, Rodney was invulnerable and good with a staff, but his invulnerability made him headstrong and a bit of a clumsy oaf of a hero. Safehouse always needed to bail him out.

Anyway, after that, it kind of dropped off. Recently the dreams have come back. Now, I'm flying around Paragon a lot. It's a sunnier place than in my past dreams, probably to reflect my hope that it might, just might, return. And I'm fighting crime. Funnily enough, in those dreams I'm Rodney Royce as often as I am Safehouse.

Sure- I miss CoH. I agree, it's fun to be able to boot up CoHDemo Launcher.
However, being very limited, it is basically a ghost town....and has some bugs, my char eventually freezes and I exit the program.

I don't know if the return of CoH after 2 years will translate into the wonderful community we all loved.
I guess I'm afraid many people may not return.
I'm not sure if we can re-create the hey-day of yester year.

I miss the original Paragon Studios Team and wish they could be part of this, but we all know they've had no choice but to pursue new jobs and direction.....It was their inspiration and care for the game that made it so enjoyable, too. I liked how once in a blue moon, one of them would drop in and chat to us.
I loved CoH and it will remain one of the great experiences in my life.
I never thought I'd say it-but now after 2 years and more, looking at re-imagined images of Atlas, other scenes, I'm afraid of it's return....I hope it doesn't mutate into something opposite to what made it so nice....community.... No one can replace Matt 'Positron' Miller, War Witch and all the other dev techs.

If all goes well, and it is re-released,  I just wonder how the game will operate under the management of new people.
I wonder if any of us loyal subscribers will have a say in matters either....
