What was an enemy group that you despised battling against? Arachnos? Carnival? Nemesis? I have a feeling that most will be Carnival.
I HATED fighting the Nemesis. Their little robot toxic spammers were absurdly annoying for me, either as a defender, controller, tanker, anything.
Knives of Artemis were my least favorite. Dopey caltrops!
And also the Tsoo when I was playing a mastermind. My idiotic minions would chase those stupid teleporting Sorcerers all over the ruddy map, aggroing every thing in sight and dragging them back to me when the Sorcerer eventually 'ported back. (The Ink Men siphoning the living daylights out of you wasn't pleasant, either.)

for me it was the circle of thorns and malta
Carnies. No other group was even close. I just despised them phase shifting all the time.
Circle of Thorns, those damn caves.
Malta. Those MFin' sappers... They'd always manage to hide one of them in the middle of their little circle.

Malta except when I played a Mastermind. Sorry sapper, we have you outnumbered!
Carnies. The mezzing. The phasing. The psi dmg.
I never got around to rolling a character with decent protection against the psi dmg.

As a villain if you died during a heist mission, you're spawned in a police station where you had to break out. They also showed up during the actual heist itself.
They may have been in other areas but that's where I remember them from.
Arachnos psi bitches on two legs or eight.
Circle of Thorns...their lairs were just too spooky.

I also remember seeing them in the Hometown Hero alignment mission for villains.
I despised T.P.N. Campus Trial where Maelstrom seems to always find & zap you if you aren't quick to re-enter the building your TF was in. Especially when you just Hosp'd.....jerk. ;D
That and Keyes Island Reactor Trial....awful if you are a squishy like me.
I had 3 "I hate fighting_____" groups
1 CoT
2 Carnies
3 Arachnoids.

I never thought they were difficult, I just associated them with those cave levels that I hated so much.
The only CoT I didn't like were the ones with the -tohit aura, but those were easily targeted first and overcome with yellow pez. :)
I actively avoided Malta because of their hax (sappers + half-minute-long stuns, and most of my chars don't have mez protection? No THANKS!)
Also I seemed to always get annihilated by Coralax when I played as a Villain.
Malta. I can deal with psi attacks, holds, etc. but end stealing, that's just plain wrong.
I always hated the DE....I think it was because they tended to linger in the expansive Paragon City cave system.
Nearly a tie between Ascendant Archons and Wisp Overloards. Both of these have detention fields that can take players out of the fight for a while, and I hate that... Wisp Overlords get extra agro-shifter points because of the sheer number of them that you encounter in shard trials, but Aschendants take the cake with the Shield power that put them into god mode for a while (Invulnerable, +Regeneration, +Recovery), so your twiddling your thumbs waiting for it to wear off so you can finish your kill all mission...
To fight: Malta and their [pancake-ing] sappers.
Other reasons: Praetorian Resistance- Just. Shut. Up. It doesn't help that I have a dirty mind and 2/3rds of what they say sounds vaguely naughty.

On the note of FFing f'ers, I hated when those Fake Nems hit PFF and dragged out the fight another 30s instead of just dying.
No hate, just had more challenging enemies:
Nemesis was my most difficult group to take out. My mains were a mind/kin controller and a claws/sr scrapper.
On my controller: sleep and confuse were resisted. And if I took out the Lieutenants first, vengeance was definitely felt, as most of his powers needed a to-hit check. On my scrapper, his AoE defense was always lower than his melee and range defense and Nemesis pointed out the difference.
Malta and Carnies were easy with my mains. The sappers got confused with confuse or mass confusion when I played my controller and my scrapper just dodged the sapping. Carnies were basically the same. And my controller had the Psi epic so he had Psi resist and hold protection to go along with his powerful and safe active defense. Master Illusionists were the only challenge: I believe she could be confused so I made sure to have Indomitable Will ready just in case and my Incarnate powers ready to go and my controller 'dominated' her; my scrapper had a more difficult time as her powers had no position flag (I.E: they were auto hit on a positional defense SR) so I used Elude so none of her pets would hurt him and I played the game of damage her when she was unphased and take out the pets while they were around and she was phased.
When ever I fought Master Illusionist I thought, these guys are kind of overpowered for a boss, not even a hero could have those powers. And then I found out controllers eventually got the Illusion/Dark combo and I hear it's one of the most powerful controller combinations. Go figure.
I generally thought that the more challenging and difficult the group, the more fun it was to fight them.
What I disliked were the cave missions, and also (but not to the same degree) Oranbega.
For me it was the Animus Arcana in Night Ward, it was almost impossible to survive against them if you were soloing with a character without mezz protection.
Malta sappers were a pain too, but they taught me to always have at least one mezz attack waiting for them, so they weren't such a big deal.
Freakshow... I f'ing hated Freakshow... particularly lieutenant and higher, because you'd turn your back on them and they'd respawn on your ass while you were recovering. I was no great fan of either version of the clockwork for all their stupid electric holds/end drains.
That's tough to say. I would say my most hated mobs and also most loved mobs are Carnies and Malta. Kept me on my toes, and put good use to the 1 hold power I had.
My most dreaded fight though was when you were doing the Abyss story arc red side. And you have to fight Valkyrie. Either set on AV or Elite boss she was a pain to fight. AV took like an hour to bring her down I remember. She pops MOG and it just lasts forever and I believe she has Rise of the Valkyrie too.
There were several groups I despised:
1. Malta
Between sappers and the boss mobs with the freeze guns, I avoided soloing these guys, and I never found any groups
who wanted to do their missions.
2. Knives of Artemis
Caltrips... enough said.
3. CoT
This is the only group that were horribly overpowered at lower levels, then became easier as you leveled.
Poorly designed.
Really don't understand the problems people had with Carnies - I loved them. The only particular boss mob I hated was
the one who spawned pets and became invincible. Other than that, the rest were fairly easy.
As someone who mainly fought council, Warwolves.
Every other mob in the game, I could lock down with an immobilize and AOE them all down as a pack, War wolves complicated that on my crabbermind :\
Everything else I could manage just fine.

yeah, the wolves sucked... the ToT ones in particular, but all in general could one hit your ass and had a lot of different resistances.
1. Vahzilok suicide zombies... I stopped rolling science heroes till DfB came out.
2. Tsoo Sorcerers with their stupid hit/heal and run tactic.
3. Those snipers in Peregrine. The bane of any low lvl toon trying to cross the zone after teaming.
Yeah, add Tsoo Sorcerers to mine too... they wr okay indoors, but fight them outdoors, like at the north end of steel canyon, where they could teleport a block away and make you chase or wait, and they turned into a real pill.
Vahz if I was rolling a tanker and on a full Posi TF with a pug. 30 or so of those poison spitting jerks at mission doors and no protection against it for most tanker types.
Other than that there was one mission on redside with poison spitting cobras that caused some issues too... something to do with smashing eggs is all I remember... and lots of faceplants.
It really depended on what character I was on at the time. Sappers were easy for my illusion troller, but my blaster hated Malta (I once got stunned for so long that I was able to stagger out of aggro range :D ).
The only mobs that caused any problems for my main Katana/WP scrapper were ARachnos due to the crazy amount of debuffs when you were running x8 missions.
Didn't much like the following;
Avalanche Shaman (BP)
Agony Mage (CoT)
Devouring Earth
The first time I saw an acracnobot I nearly had a movement in my pants.
And it was in a cave with those cob webs and everything.
And the stupid thing was charging me.
Killed it though.
It seems that certain enemy groups were worse for different AT's.
Tanks hated sappers.
Blasters hated mezzers.
I hated them all.
That's why I killed them, well that and for the babes.
Later.
Longbow. They started on Redside around level 12 and were so prevalent that I just got sick of seeing them.
Yeah the Longbow were blue side too. And I got sick of them, but because they stood around and got press while I was out there risking life and limb.
Malta.
Frak. Those. Guys.
I hated the fire imps. Cave after cave of them... Millions of imps waiting for you. I hated how they fell after only a few points of damage giving level after level in minutes or seconds.
I hated having to level up so often during that mission.

forgive me but I do not remember any missions with fire imps, I have seen missions with demons but not fire imps. please tell me the mission with these this has got me curious.
It was an infamous AE mission that was used to PL characters from 1-50 in something like 2 hrs. Waaay faster than the PL missions that followed in AE.
It lasted for a week or so and then the Devs brought the hammer down... including some week long bans from the game.
I got a good 8-10 characters some serious PL lovin in a single weekend, but since I stopped short of level 50 on all of them I never got the ban.
So, it's not so much I hated the imps, just that I felt bad about it. :)

Yes, Shadow Cyst Crystals. Hated them because of the bad decision-making that led to putting them into the game in the first place:
"Hey! Let's give Khelds their own version of Kryptonite but so in a way that penalizes teams that invite a Kheld to join them (and continues to annoy them hours after the Kheld leaves the team)."
Has anyone said CoT ghosts, yet?
Hated their -to hit and then going invis and flying away before you could finish them off. You'd then end up scouring a map clean before realizing the mission won't end because one of the runners had vanished.
Caves. They weren't technically a enemy group but they sure did kick my butt at times.

Which kind of cave?
Council Caves,
Five-layer cakes,
Gray Hallows type.
For me by far were the 5-layer cakes. Try one of them at level 12, pretty i23 when flying waited for level 14 and the jet pack just ran out of fuel.
Now, there's a fun afternoon.

I used this on the double XP weekend to level my Elec/Shield Scrapper to 1-50 in about 2 hours and they didn't ban me for it. It was probably just the people who made the missions.

They did some database mining to determine who got the ban. I had a few SG mates who got the boot for about a week.
I'm starting to remember this a bit better. There were several of these farms that cropped up over a week or two. The devs closed some down only to see others create clones of them.
I think you were right about when it took place though. I forgot the dbl exp weekend. The farm may have been up less than I thought.
Honestly it might have been altitus that saved me. I did as much PLing as they did that weekend (maybe not quite), but spread over like 8 or 9 different chars.
But man it was a blast to see a new character have three or four sets of level buffs on him at the same time. :)
Malta (sappers)

Ghouls. And ghouls. Did I mention ghouls?
I don't think I ever played Praetoria after the balance changes the devs made because I was still so angry at the pancaking ghouls...
I always hated the DE. All of those pet buffs/debuts going on. As soon as you get rid of one they would drop another pet.
You know, in a way, I really appreciated all the mobs you were supposed to hate. I had a character that I thought was unkillable, and then I would run into one of these mobs. It would make me rethink the whole approach to truly get that ultimate survival goal, seriously changed the metagame.
However, mobs that would phase and run away for hours, as someone said, I did not appreciate :P

FYI - if they were gone for a long time they might have been stuck in a wall. Had a few petitions on that for TFs back in the day.
Arachnos was really bad if they were able to get the debuff and DoT stacks on you.
Did the Tyrantula queen attack that hit your defense by -22 always autohit? Every single time it hit my widow.
I believe it was, or it was typed as only psi at least.
It seemed the more squishy my characters were, the better they were at handling the more difficult mobs. My blaster was more of a kill them before they kill me type of character, with ice patch and sleet to buy me some time, as well as a couple of holds. Useful for arachnos, as long as I had used Clarion or had a break free.
My brutes, scrappers and tanks just didn't seem to fare as well, presumably because of the higher difficulty settings. But, those arachnos seemed to just eat through my defenses pretty easily. If I hadn't had a macro for popping purples, my poor brute would probably be face down in a warehouse somewhere.
Overall - my least favorite was longbow - because I'd try to find an anchor for my kin, and somehow, I'd end up with a singularity and waste the opportunity.
Paragon Protectors. In particular the missions with nothing but PPs. If I got the difficulty level wrong it got messy fast. And then there was that time when they didn't level right... all 40+ regardless of your level.
Some had that period of invincibility just before they were defeated. But you wailed on it anyway. It was going down, just... later.
I'm going with Carnie bosses. That stupid pancaking "Mask of Vitiation" debuff did everything but key my car (honestly, I recall it as -acc, -def, -recov, -regen, and took 30 points off my credit score).
Edit: oh yeah, and Freakshow, not the whole faction, but the fact that they had cold resistance. Felt randomly tacked-on, and given that I had several cold-powered heroes, I felt that one hard.
