Hehe... Silly lane... That's where I live!
I'll just say, splippysplannysplopipopilotimus!
I think this may come into play a bit with what you said about when communicating with others (maybe sort of slightly... maybe entirely!)...
I have found that, when I communicate with others, I tend to use
their way of communicating to communicate to them.
I think I first noticed it with my grandfather, many years ago. His first language was not English and he spoke in a somewhat broken-English, yet deliberate manner. He was very intelligent, but he spoke in somewhat simple words (due to the difference of language, obviously). And with a very strong accent.
I found myself having the best conversations with him when I (nearly) slipped into that accent and spoke in the way in which he spoke (using the pace and style of inflection that he did). I think there are a bunch of factors there, some of it using the common ground (best way to communicate) and some of it being me quasi role-playing as a form of relating to the other person and accepting that pace and approach as my own.
Another factor just may be the actor approach... I sometimes can't help falling into role-play to relate to things.
I think this is somewhat true of my use of language in certain situations.
I don't really curse up a storm all that much... but I certainly love using the enormous variety of words that come from "pancake". And my family tends to think of me as using that
a lot.
However, I am generally the
least likely of my family to use such words in what
other people find to be inappropriate times. And I think that is because I do the same thing... If I am attempting to communicate and/or mingle with people that may not like such words... It is extremely easy for me to speak more like them.
Now... if I find it personally important to say things exactly they way
I want to no matter what anyone else thinks... then all rules are out the window.
I'm capable of flipping that switch, but I seem to enjoy communicating within other people's styles...
Except for here, of course... where I babble somewhat incoherently in a fashion that no one else really gets or cares to bother to sort through!
EDIT:
Ah... boo. For pancake's sake... why is pancake pancaking censored?
Ah well... there boards, their rules, I don't mind
