I have a ss/inv brute that i can rsf, itf, and solo with with regular sets and IO's, no purples...i was wondering if someone could help me figure out a blue side shield/ss build...mids confuses me to no end..but i understand the why and where..just usually not the how many slots for the powers..and with shield being fairly new..i was hoping to get a lil bit of help...i printed out a guide for sheilds but it was next to worthless...with just generic information...any help would be appreciated..cost is really not an issue..but i am an altoholic so a few puples here and there are fine..but dont want to have to spend 3 months farming to be able to afford to play this toon...thanks again...

I haven't even started the new Issue yet so I know nothing on Shields. Cath has tinkered some I think, but eventually, someone will get back here to help you, I'm sure.

Well not sure if it helps, but i now have 2 shield projects..and it is looking like it is comparible to wp...almost have to take all of the powers or suffer later.....
but it is a lot of fun to play...i look forward tot he help..and the at least the pointy roof information was helpful...lol

Shields is a mix of Super Reflexes (Positional Defense & Click Mez Protection) and Willpower (Passive +Max HP & Resistance-based tier 9). Those are the key strengths you should look to capitalize. I actually think Dark Melee is far and away the best set to pair with shields because you don't have to entertain the idea of picking up the Medicine Pool. I've got a great Shield/Dark build that I will attempt to convert to Shield/SS. I played a Shield/SS on test and liked it, but I don't see it having the same level of general survivability "out of the box" like Dark Melee does. It is the prestigious Captain America build, though. I'll see what I can do to make it pretty strong.
I'll try to get it posted up today. I don't have a live SS character, so my slotting might be a little bit wonky. If I don't post in this thread by the end of the day, send me a PM here on the Titan forum to remind me. Work's got me all over the place today unfortunately.

I just noticed you have some Ice Tanks at 50. Shields is really, really gonna freak you out. Ice is awesome, but positional softcapped defense on a Tanker is unbelieveably cool.

well i hate both of my ice tanks...lol....the ice/ba does crap for damage and the ice/fire just dies to much if im not constantly watching the end, and both have purples placed throughout the builds...I am just not a fan of ice...

Shield is going to do well for PvP IMO, but there is little future in it for end-game arcs and *Forces... AVs can get past most defense anyway... where are there are far more checks and balances for Character vs Character scenarios making it somewhat of a powerhouse.
IF properly purped & proced.

Personally, I've seen a lot of people who don't know how to use defense properly in PvE. When you're defense-based, the key is to mitigate damage so the lucky shot that gets through doesn't kill you.
Also, there's only 1 AV in the game that can get past the Hitpoint cap with his alpha (edit). With Shields and Ice, you shouldn't have any issue whatsoever taking on anyone except Recluse as long as you maximize your HP wherever possible. For Recluse, you just bring insps and the right buffer/debuffers with you.
Shields is SR with a +Res/+HP tier 9. I'm not sure how you think that has little future for end-game Steiner. :P

Back to the OP, I'm posting a build for you finally. Sorry it took me so long. This build isn't cheap, but it's cool enough that I might want to build this Tanker myself. Some features:
- All positional defense is over 50%. This is meant to make you untouchable even if you get debuffed a little bit. I also took Grant Cover to take some of the edge off of Defense Debuffs.
- 15.5% Damage Buff from bonuses. That's on top of 10.5% from Assault...which is on top of 80 - 160% from Rage...which is on top of 15.5 - 65% from Against All Odds. In other words, you'll hit the damage cap quite often with stacked Rage. Enjoy destroying everything.
- Procs! I use a lot of them. Some of them are in place for the sake of defensive set bonuses. Some of them are just to add exotic damage chances. Make changes wherever you like, but try not to nuke your defense.

Well there is a reason i ask for help with my builds...lol...i am comfortable knowing i cant make a good build..the ice/ba tank had good survivability but did crap for damage, so if you have a good build i could steal i woul do it, and the ice/fire tank i made for the occassional farm when i was bored with my f/k and my arch/mm but the end use on him was way to high...not sure what i did wrong..i can post the mids chunk when i get off work one day if you would like to see my ignorance in action..

Make changes wherever you like, but try not to nuke your defense.
I really apreciate the help with this build, i will most likely not change anything, it will take me a bit to save up the inf to finish him off, but he is definately my next project...he is sitting at lvl 47 right now and even with basic so's he does well against +5's. so again thank you very much.

Making this build really did make me consider building one for myself, but I've got too many alts I'm working to 50 right now. I think I've got 3 villains at 35+, 2 heroes at 25+, and a hero at 42. Dang...that really should keep me busy in-game. :P

Welli thought i had most of the expensive enhancements, apparently ToD's are all rare items...lol...and the eradi arent any easier to find...bought one for 35 mill...then realized i already had that one...it is just a lot of struggling to get the inf at this point...still trying to get use to no ss, i feel very s..l...o...w....just thought id give an update..

Welcome to COH and the Titan Network, Hellvin!
Just to make sure we're on the same page, are you talking about the Medicine Pool or the Fitness Pool? I made the comment about the Medicine Pool because several people I know can't make a melee character without some form of self-heal. The Medicine Pool provides that option. With Dark Melee, you have a self-heal as part of your attack chain. As long as you keep fighting, you typically will keep standing.
The Fitness Pool is a different story. Some people (even me) have tried to make characters that utilize so many Regen and Recovery bonuses that the character doesn't require Health or Stamina. I've never been able to stick with a build like that. It stinks that you have to make some sacrifices to get them, but Health and Stamina are nearly a requirement for most builds.
In a few minutes, I'll post the Tanker and Scrapper builds I created in their appropriate forums. I'll link them here once I get that done.

OK...i have all the Sets except for 1 eradication and the regenerattive tissue + regen...everything else is set..i changed 2 things and maybe you can tell me if this is part of the only issue i am having...i changed the Jab set from ToD to absolute amazements, 5 of em and a ToD chance for proc, and i changed one set of the eradication to obliteration..(in shield charge) the other sets were just to hard to come by and i had those in my base...the toon does very well but runs a little end heavy..big battles i have to make sure i am loaded with blues....but i have ITF'd with him and LGSF'd with him and came out sparkeling.......(other than the slight end issue).....and we had no kin on either..just 2 tanks 3 brutes and a rad... is the end issue because of the IO changes i made?

Neither of those changes would hurt you. On the contrary, changing to Absolute Amazement helped your Recovery a bit.
In a more recent build, I've decided to take Phalanx Fighting instead of Maneuvers. That will get rid of a toggle for you, so it might help a little bit.
Shields / SS is a little bit tough in the endurance department because you have no +End in those sets. You're probably noticing the endurance crash more than you'd like when the tier 9 wears off. I'm surprised it's so noticeable, though. You said you already have the Numina and Miracle global pieces in place?

I had wondered abut that, but I didnt see a numina +reg/+rec in the build..i do have the miracle +rec in place tho. I can easily replace one of the other Numinas ...and the build you made already has phalnx fighting and tactics...not maneuvers...have you been drinking again?
But just so you know i took him onto the BM farm today and herded 2 groups with 4 bosses and all the little minions, and was able to just stand there. FS + Shield charge+ footstomp = my own personal nuke for the minions..lol..you have definately made a solid build for me..ill keep ya posted if i tweak or change anything.

Odd...the one I had saved did have Maneuvers. I must've posted an edited version and forgot to save it. Yeah, that's definitely what I did. It's in the thread after all. ;)
I didn't have Tactics in the build, though. I couldn't fit it.
I made some tweaks just now. I added the Absolute Amazement pieces and a set of Hecatomb. Also, the Numina global is in Health instead of the Regenerative Tissue piece. It should give you a little more Recovery overall. (Oh yeah, the damage bonus is a little bit higher, too. ;D)

*EDIT* - Are you using this guy to farm a lot? If so, I'm assuming it's going good? I'm looking to make a farming Tanker. I've never had a lot of interest in the typical fire/kin farmer.

I am actually not farming very much with him at all...he is a beast on the tf's ive taken him on so far, he has stood toe to toe with every AV needed to get Portal Jocky accolade, he has stood toe to toe with Romulous, now i have taken him on a few farm runs..just to test it and get use to the new build..but since i have had him IO'd out he has died once...at the hands of the Hami as i stood there and taunted him while the rest of the team killed the pylons on a lgsf....and i was taunting all the way till the 2nd to last pylon b4 i died..and pulling the mobs from the pylons into the goo. fs+shield charge+foot stomp kills all of the minions and will take the bosses down to about half health...with SB end is not a issue and isnt horrible with out it.(but with it..oooooohhhh it is grrrreat)This is by farm my new favorite hero...it reminds me a lot of my ss/invul brute except that this guy is a lot harder to hit...i can pull 2 mobs of anything and let them hit me bosses or not and most of what u se is deflected, miss, dodged...the defense is incredible. Ill have to see what the second set of oblits did for the build..i have one set in foot stop already and left the eradication set in shield charge..but im at work and the filter only allows me to do so much.

So just wanted to give an update on my Shield/ss tank..it is FRIGGEN AWESOME!!! Cath is a genius (slight overdramatization) so much so i have leveled a ss/shield brute to 50 since i last posted which is also AWESOME....i modified the tanker build slightly due to power and level choices..but he to is awesome...the brute is by far my favorite toon to play..slightly end heavy with all the toggles on but definately manageable. I also re-IO'd my ice/ba tank....and not sure what my issues were before but now he plays like a champ and is pretty devastating. I almost have my ice/ss tank to 50 and i am very excited to get him fully Io'd and go run amuck in the paper archives of Paragon. (did i mention I suffer slightly from altitus?)

Actually, you don't need the to export the bottom datachunk anymore. The second link ("Click this DataLink to open the build!") provides that in an easier format.

I still like the datachunk. The link is about 98% reliable for me, but every once in a great while I get an error trying open a linked build. The datachunk has never failed me. :)

You'd be confused to find out why the datalink doesn't always work... it's got a lot to do with Binary Checksums... lol.

Actually, binary checksums I get. (Used to deal with VPCs as part of 1553 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MIL-STD-1553) protocol on a day to day basis.) Kinda suspected something like that might be involved.
