Title: Banner posted near NCSoft Korea?
Post by: Ironwolf on October 25, 2012, 03:42:18 PM
I have a question: How much would it cost to have a 3 story tall banner made with one of our #Savecoh posters?

I would love to have a PR company in Korea do a stunt unfurling it at lunch time near the NCSoft headquarters. You just know we could get at least a couple students willing to do it for us :)

I'd just go with screen-printing, or even hand-painting, personally. Nothing more expensive than what folks bring to sports events. Wouldn't be the prettiest thing ever, but $10k? Sheesh.

I have a friend who runs a shop making the car banners and such - in fact he is the outgoing Midrealm King - I may see what he could do..............

Then we just find some crazy local students in Korea willing to hang or run around in front of NCSoft for some cash.

Not the sort of thing I can safely research through the 'net security filters at work, but what you want to look for, for an idea like this, is what it costs to put up a billboard in South Korea. Preferably in the city of NCSoft's headquarters.

Probably quite a bit. NCSoft HQ is in Gangnam (yes, THAT Gangnam), which is a fairly ritzy area.

Also it's likely that because it's such a ritzy area, the police will treat anyone protesting, or holding a banner very badly.  This isn't the U.S. we're talking about - it's common there to have several cops show up to beat one guy with batons, and haul him off to spend weeks in jail.

No, that's not a dig against Korea.  The same thing could happen in a ritzy area in France, Germany, or even England.  Us spoiled Americans have it pretty good with the police here.  Mostly I don't want to see someone get hurt for the cause.

"NCSoft HQ is in Gangnam (yes, THAT Gangnam)"

Why am I not surprised?

"Gangnam Style" makes fun of materialistic, mysogynistic narcissists who think they have it made, and act like crass, unsophisticated jerks. That's our NCSoftcore.

"No, that's not a dig against Korea."

Actually, yes it is. And I'm not complaining.

Certainly makes Black Pebble's choice of goofy video to parody a bit more interesting, eh?

A nice visit to their headquarters.

Thats not a bad idea, for funds we could always consider a fundraiser.  I think this would make a huge difference you can avoid PR on the internet, hell the internet is full of bad PR for everyone.  But if you had that hanging up right our front their window they would have to address the situation.

Or this: http://www.nationalskyads.com/banners.html

I wonder if they have such banners in Korea? How nice would it be to have them drag around in the sky before the next shareholders meeting a sign saying - NCSoft the Gamekiller #Savecoh!

Alas, a quick google search does not turn up anything.

And where do I donate? :)

My car needs repairs, but it can wait a week or two lol.

I think a billboard would be the way to go if any are available near NCSoft. Unfortunately, you'd probably need a native to confirm if there is one and who to contact to lease it. Generally, though, billboard space is leased in 6 month blocks. Prices vary by location, obviously, but aren't generally that expensive considering the amount of time you have the billboard.

Oh, geeze, a 6 month period of "NCSoft the MMO Killer" on a billboard in eyesight of NCSoft's main HQ? Ouch.

I am at work and so can't view it but a Google Street tool around the neighborhood should do it.

Then we find who runs the agency with the billboard. I think this is doable!

Unfortunately, Google hasn't driven through Seoul, it seems. What's more, I can't even seem to find the address listed on NCSoft for the corporate address: 158-16 NCSOFT R&D Center B/D, Samsung-dong, Gangnam-gu, Seoul, South Korea (ZIP 135-090) in Google maps.

If anyone knows of a native Korean online mapping service that might have more info perhaps we could find something, but Google wasn't of much use.

A nice visit to their headquarters.

Bar/cafe, library, gym, kindergarten and let's not forget the baseball team they promote more than actual games on their facebook page.

Money well wasted.

That poor Statesman statue  :'(

Google maps does have the streets of Seoul, it just doesn't understand the address.

Ah ha, found them. I went to 157-33 Samseong-dong, Gangnum-gu, Seoul, Korea 135-090. I then had to disambiguate to 503 Teheran-ro and remote walked the streets checking out buildings that looked right. It was very near the place Google took me to start, near a CitiBank. [Edit:] There's also a building under construction right across the street, which might help if you're searching for it as I did.

Now if only I can figure out how to share the info without requiring someone to do the same...

[Edit 2:] Well I don't see how to share the view easily. If you go to the address I listed and look N at that address, simply turn to the right to face E and look for a tall white cellular looking building down the street (I think it's 3 doors down the street from the address given).

Anyway, that address will get you in the neighborhood if you want to look for ad space. It's a shame the barriers for the construction site can't be used. Maybe some street art. In a quick perusal I see a VISA ad that appears to be in the process of being put up immediately to the E of NCSoft itself (the site looks like it might belong to the Cadillac dealer just to the E of that and there's an ad with an American flag motif right above the VISA ad, it's blocked by trees and I don't read Korean, so I'm not sure what it is).

[Edit 3:] The address Google has for NCSoft appears to be 158-16 Samseong-dong (509 Teheran-ro), Gangnam-gu, Seoul, Korea 135-090. (Going there puts you in a narrow side street to the W of the bldg, so you have to "walk" S to the main street then turn around to look N.)

I was just wondering that... imagining something hanging from a scaffolding. Dagnabbit.
