I'll go first to
Wabasha, MN on the Mississippi River near its confluence with the Chippewa River and, as per the URL, a great weekend getaway spot from the hustle and bustle of the twin cities. (Wabasha has a population of under 3,000 per the 2010 census.) And see, they even have their own tourism website:
http://www.wabashamn.org/ So, yes, while I am 3/4 joking with my tongue planted firmly in one cheek, nonetheless, I bet like many rural communities it
is a great weekend spot and change of scenery from city living. If Wabasha is too pedestrian for some, then I travel in my mind to Garrison Keillor's mythic
Lake Wobegone where one can even sign up for podcasts for the local news if so inclined)
