I'm curious where my fellow Virtue players ended up after scattering to the winds. What games have you guys found to be fun these days? Have any supergroups made the successful transition to other games? Did everything just fall apart?
Not sure anyone there remembers me- I got relatively well known in the RP community in the first year or two of the game(which gave 16 year old me the world's biggest ego), but that quickly dropped off once everyone realized how lame I was (i was super lame). I got to fill the Aquaman type aquatic hero role in plenty of RP things for a bit, though, which was cool. Once Water Blast rolled around (thank god that got released before shutdown) I finally was able to use the powers I'd been pretending to have for years and years, so that was cool.
I lost touch with a number of people long before the shutdown and wasn't able to find them in-game before everything went away. If you're one of those people, I'm sure you remember me too! So say hi or something geez.
I've tried DCUO and CO and TSW and Neverwinter and a million other MMOs but nothing's giving me the same feeling that CoH did, and maybe nothing else ever will. I think it must have been something special for me, grabbed me at the right time and gave me the right sorts of social tools to avoid a lot of depressing highschool issues. ...even if it did wreck my grades enough that I had to drop out of highschool and get my GED- but who cares about highschool degrees anyway? Starting my senior year for my bachelor's degree in animation soon and I can safely say that if it weren't for the community on Virtue, I wouldn't be here making this happen. So, thanks for that.
-
I haven't found any MMO I like never did before I found City.
I actually came to the forums just now because I'm in a ugh mood and don't really want to do anything.
This is when I would normally head to pocket D and just chill.
*Sigh*
-
Hey, Kelp.
Didn't go anywhere. CoH was my home, and nothing else will do.
Hope you are well.
-
mostly in CO avoiding cat scratch fever. :P
There is supposedly a RP COX virtue based SG in CO i seen in advertised in the COX channel about two months ago. Thinking think much of it though and really dont even remember the name of it.
I'll tell you now, there is not and will not (yet until maybe the two projects come to being) have the feeling of COX. Just as there wasnt a game with the feelign of COX when it was live, there isnt one after it's gone. That is what made COX special. It was one of a kind. Part luck part community and part having devs that knew what they were doing with the game play and features. Getting all three of those working together to create a good game do not happen often if at all or ever before COX came along. I not sure how all those things fell into place any more than I know how exactly do chemicals, ions, liquids and nerves create concious thought processes and dreams in humans but not in many other animals when in a biological manner they too have chemicals, ions, liquids, and nerves and how the different arrangements of those ions produces different results or if off by a few, death and illness.
-
Played on Virtue mostly. In CO with a couple of characters, but ya know... Involved with The Phoenix Project, of course.
Unfortunately every SG I was in ended up being pretty much non-existent about a month before shutdown. Very disheartening. People just couldn't bear to do it anymore I guess.
-
Howdy fellow Virtue person! I wasn't a huge member of the virtue community, but it was my home server. Checking out eve online (Prolly going to cancel that, feel's too much like work) and also Beta testing a game called Dragon's Prophet. When the NDA lifts, I'll start posting more facts about it.

NDA about the shutdown (far fecthed hope that it might be some way some how this) or the NDA about the Dragon project (which I have a feeling it's this one)
-
Hi Kelpy, I remember you from Freedom Factor ;)
I haven't really found anything that fills that void. Jaguar said it best (although got a lil too tl;dr with the chemicals and ions :o ) .. CoH got it all right, probably from the start (but I can only speak for the 5+ years I was there). Every issue drew me in even more. Paragon City made me feel like the Super Hero culture was respected, and my characters were actually ALIVE. Teaming was rampant in City, and there was always more content than I knew what to do with.
I tried TSW - too many zombies
I tried DCUO - but it felt like I'd always be in the shadow of Wonder Woman. Granted, I didn't play past the tutorial >.> ... But I wasn't a fan of being TOLD how my character got her powers, and that she was most definitely kidnapped and held hostage on Braniac's ship :-\ ... The having to have one of the big names as a mentor just kinda really put me off. I dunno, it could be just me, and although I -really- did like the Justice League ... I, for one, just can't see MY own individual unique characters making names for themselves, and living in cities where those icons exist .. So I never went back. I might consider it again if there was a decent RP community & RPSG... Maybe ...
CO - I've been trying to give this a shot off and on. The first friend who tried dragging me in, has since left the game. The second friend who tried dragging me in (and even gave me tips on how to turn those godaweful campy comicy bloomy video settings off) also left the game. The SG that I tried reconnecting with ... sorta rubbed me the wrong way... ... Also tried getting into CORP - and (save for 2 people), I really felt like the new kid in high school, in a town where everyone else knew each other since kindergarten :-\ ... "Teaming" is sort of 'every man for himself, god for us all' (in my experience). There's no chatter, no laughing, no joking, and giggling, and singing. I've not found a 'community' let alone an RP (SG) community. Without that, I have no interest in the game. Trying to connect with another ex CoH friend in CO to try again, but that's few and far between ... so ... yeah ...
I miss CoH :(
I miss CoH RP :(
I miss the teaming community :(
I miss home ... :'(

I was a former member of the Liberty League until I left it about two years ago or so. Long before that, all the people who I originally played CoH with were long gone.
I swore off MMOs entirely after CoH went offline. I'd briefly considered making a new home on CO, but I'm not going to put down roots on some other online game that will just be shut down itself some time later. Screw that, I'm done.
I'd only be interested in CoH returning if I could have all my old characters and their stuff back. Bases optional.
-
I'm in World of Warcraft. RP server Wyrmrest Accord rp sever.
My main character is Tukalzul a Troll witchdoctor/shaman I often rp fortune telling in Orgrimmar. Found myself an active RP guild called Ravens Whisper.
-
Heya. My home was Virtue, but I fear I wasn't very prominent there. I'd like to think I was prominent on the forums, however.
As for your question, I never really found anywhere to replace CoH, but I spend a lot more time with console gaming nowadays.
-
I'm hanging around CO doing that roleplay thing I do.
-
Virtue, wazzap? Not extremely active, but in the last days I often haunted Help and the like as Demon Digger and Thoughtforce.
-
I'z from Virtue, though not a native. I moved to Virtue sometime in the final 3 or 4 years, I think.
-
CoH or bust... period... bring back City or Heroes Virtue Server !!!
-
Virtue represent! Whut whuuuut! 8)
You probably don't know me though, I didn't RP very much. And when I did it was usually by accident. Mostly I would be doodling along doing my thing, probably throwing cookies at giving cookies to people, and a mini-story would spontaneously break out around us. As often as not I went with it... it was fun to hang out playing pretendy-time with friends and random strangers. Anything else I was doing could always be picked up again later. Ahhh Virtue... my home away from home while sitting at home. *sigh*
I haven't been playing much of any other games, really. I boot up Minecraft and Torchlight 2 now and again, but that's just fending off the boredom really.
I've gotten back into reading comics though. Haven't done that for 20 years or more, since I was in high school. I guess we know what I can blame that on ;D
-
None of the other MMOs got my attention for very long. Still like STO, but it's mostly ship to ship combat and less RP options. Can't even get a freighter (unless pay real money or something, or might have been a limited offer) and do trading (no EVE, it is work). So instead, wanting to watch a spaceship-based show, I've been working on an RPG campaign based loosely on Firefly, using Traveller RPG, that I'll run at my local game store some time in the near future.
I started on Champion, moved to Virtue a few years ago for the RP.
-
Hey Kelp, I still RP now and again on CO, as well as WoW on the Moon Guard server.
-
I played ChO for awhile but decided that I don't play it enough to subscribe and it isn't worth playing without a subscription.
I played DCUO briefly, but I can't build superheroes the way I want there and there are movement issues that were reported way back in beta that haven't been fixed yet.
So I currently don't have an MMOG roost. I'm going to give Neverwinter a shot, but I don't expect it will keep my attention long if at all.
-
Virtue was the home of my first character and the home of my last character. I wandered over to Pinnacle a few times, had a small SG that no one ever got above 28 in on Champion, and for a while (when character slots were still more limited...) made Victory our "villain" server.
But Virtue was home.
Tried TSW. Didn't love it. Same with SWG.
Playing Tera. Don't love it, but it's something our core group can all agree on. Way grindy, and doesn't scale well. Crafting is terrible, the RNG is abysmal, and (as with so many games) if you're leveling with friends, you have to level WITH your friends. No randomly soloing and hoping to keep everybody together and non-bored.
Downloaded NWN and will try it once it's open for free (today?). We'll see how I feel about it.
I'm saving my gaming money to support one of the new projects, or to throw at any studio/publisher who can get our City out of NCSoft's hands.
Or, crap. To throw at NCSoft, if they reopen the game.
-
My guess would be "Second Life" :P
-
My guess would be "Second Life" :P
Good guess, GG ;)
Though my combined weekly playtime in SL; TSW; TOR and STO is decidedly less then my daily playtime in CoH ever was. All those venues manage to do, is remind me how nothing else out there even comes close to what we lost.
-
Displaced Virtue villain reporting in. Hyakki, Clairene and Lock and Load Lari were my Pocket D regulars (Lari being the only talkative one, the other two were people watchers) I don't think anyone here knows me other than Blackjak.
I've loitered around in CO, returned to/left WoW and TSW and currently play PSO2. All have been pretty awful due to nostalgia for the "old days", language barriers, guild drama and in the case of CO excruciatingly painful attack on the senses.
I have been in the beta test for and am looking forward to Final Fantasy XIV since I've got a RL friend, an old WoW friend/FFXI vet, and at least one CoH friend that will join me there. I spotted a "States Man" and "Emperor Cole" running around on Cactuar server too! Surely there will be CoH refugees around for official release.
-
Virtue was my 3rd hideaway after Freedom and Exalted. I had 3 50s there. I didn't RP much since I liked to run teams and strikeforces.
Tried CO, but didn't feel like playing a hero since I'm a 90% redside player. I liked DCU for the stories, but the UI didn't let me access all of my powers and felt like I had one arm tied behind my back. So I've been dabbling in SWTOR with mostly Imperial toons to fill my villainous urges. >:D
If anyone wants to try it as F2P, I can show you how to get around the F2P limits. You can send me a PM or reply here or in the SWTOR thread.
-
at the moment, Star Trek Online and Star Wars the Old Republic. Have also given The Secret World a shot.
All are okay games, for what they are - I'd especially recommend TSW, for those wanting a modern setting - but of course, none of them are CoX.
-
Eh, mostly been playing some tabletop RPGs. The only online RPGs i've played lately are Torchlight II and very recently SWTOR. (After not even updating SWTOR for over seven months.) All the other MMOs i've tried i haven't really liked enough to invest much time. i may give Secret World a go in the near future.
Tried CO and wasn't enjoying it very much even before Derpect World did something in an update that messed up my account so i couldn't log in anymore. *sighs* i would get different, even occasionally contradictory, error messages when i tried to log in. Then again, even before that converting my Cryptic account to a PW had messed up something so that logging in as free player was all i could do without running into errors when trying to manage the account or buy anything.
So yeah, not much on the MMORPG front for me so far unless CoH or a comparable successor goes live.
On the plus side i've had more time and incentive to work on my own projects.
-
All those venues manage to do, is remind me how nothing else out there even comes close to what we lost.
There are times when a game approaches CoH, but when it happens, you see this one narrow spot where the game approaches what we took for granted, and it makes the rest of the game look even sadder by comparison.
-
trying out DCUO. I made a one time purchase (ie I canceled the subscription before it could renew) just so I could see what it was like to play with some of the "pay" features. No big deal.
I tried CO but got disgusted real quick and deleted it off my system.
After COH, I don't think I will ever again get roped into a full time subscription to any game that I can't play offline as well. It hurt too much when it was taken away.
I made so many friends on Virtue..and I miss them all. (BG7, Ice Cube Maker, Capt. Harrington, Alley Cat, and so so many more. Sigh.)
-
Displaced, lost in the web and reality. Lost the City, no motivation to play any of the games I've tried (CO, STO, back to Everquest, Mechwarrior Online). Horrible past year, going downhill on greased rails. Only Hope keeps me breathing in and out atm - because I *AM* a Hero, dammit, and Heroes never quit! As long as there's any glint of hope, I will rage at the darkness around it.
-
Virtue Server, represent.
I was only on Virtue about a year, at the end. I moved all my alts that mattered from Guardian [a server than had been in a long, steady decline since long before the shutdown announcement] to Virtue and it was a move I never regretted. I thought Virtue was great, as opposed to how I felt about Freedom. Which I will keep quiet about, so as not to offend those who liked it.
I was not well known on it, since I kept to myself a lot. But I have probably BAF/LAM/TPN/UGed through many a trial, with many of you. 8)
Virtue was always a busy server, with people doing fun stuff almost any hour of the day. I miss it terribly. No other game I have tried has come close to what this one was to me: my literal second home.
-
@Travern from virtue here...as for where I've gone? I'm bouncing around right now, though slowly settling on CO. Other than that I'm avoiding MMOs and playing SP or Co-op games.
-
@Heroid here.
I remember you, Kelp! I'll never forget you!
I've tried TSW, CO, DCUO, AoC, and none of them are what I'm looking for.
TSW comes closest, I guess, because the stories in the game are good, but there's just too much running around killing zombies for me and I never got past the low levels. It might help if I could find the "Gemini Park" of the Secret World, but I don't even know if it exists.
CO feels like a video game in a way that CoH never did and the same with DCUO.
As for Conan or any other fantasy game -- sadly, I find that running around with a sword hacking at monsters is as tedious as shooting zombies.
So, I'm not playing anything.
IF CoH gets revived, OR if one of the Project Z games manages to capture enough of that flavor AND there is a great rp community in any of those situations, I'll be ready to take to the streets (or the skies) to fight evil beside you all once again.
In the meantime, I come here to lurk in the shadows and relive the old days. It's a much better comfort than I've found in trying to replace City of Heroes.
-
Well, I'm still here lurking back and forth into the forums.
I'm currently struggling with MMOs (CO, Tera, DCUO, etc.) as none of them can keep my attention for as far as long as CoX...I think I may give up playing for a while... :(
-
Myself, Awesome K (aka G. Comet), and Mighty T [basially our YouTube channel for badging] moved on to various games, but for me only WoW has captivated my interests and not by much. No one has done badges quite like CoH and that mini game is something I desperately miss.
Our characters, though, will soon live on in my own non-MMO universe. More on that soon (tm).
-

The Horned God, in London, is definitely a roleplayer hang-out. Except at the deadest play times, there's usually some folks in there on Arcadia. This is true even lately, with the game population pretty low as a lot of players have taken a break waiting for more mission content. Us RP'ers, however, tend to be happy doing non-mission stuff in games and often don't tend to chew through content as quickly as other playstyles. So there are a good few around. I've run into people roleplaying at random out in the wrld a fair bit, too. The Romani camp in Transylvania tends to attract roleplayers.
FWIW, you never see another zombie again after the first three zones (Solomon Island), and even in Blue Mountain (third SI zone), they stop utterly dominating the enemy "menu."
-
@Lightslinger from Virtue here. I started out on Victory during Issue 7 then eventually moved everything to Virtue for the bigger population. My hours to play we're always morning and maybe early afternoon, it was definitely easier to find a team on Virtue during those hours. My main Lightslinger was my most played character, did a lot of early morning trials and TFs.
Loved Virtue, plenty of excellent players. And those...not so excellent were fun in their own way. Virtue's Pocket D was a wonder of amazing character bios, still love looking through screenshots of the really good ones, lol. So many half demon cat people who were Statesman's kids, that guy got around.
-
These days, I've pretty much pulled out of actually RPing while I hope for an MMO that stimulates my creative side in the way that CoH did comes along.
Instead, I've taken to running a little "Dear Abby"-style column for RPers (http://questionsforkat.wordpress.com/). It's been a fun outlet.
-
Stumbled onto Virtue after playing for a week and it became my home. I miss it, Paragon, and the community so much. Have tried other games, but just can't seem to even come close to settling in. Guess it's why no matter how long I stay away, I always manage to drop by Titan Network from time to time. I guess there is still that need for the best. Even just a glimpse of a memory is better than nothing. Miss you Virtue, CoH, the good, the bad, and everything in between.
-
For me; I'm playing on one of the private servers for Phantasy Star Online Blue Burst now.
As for my CoH experience: I played on Virtue and just RPd with SG mates mainly though. But I have made quite a few characters though.
-
@Twylite here
Virtue was my home for probably 6 of the 8 years I played.
I've landed in TSW, tho much like TOR I'm playing it more as a solo game for the stories. I've found a bit of RP but nothing like the D. There is a CoH chat channel, but I've yet to see a single post to it. ( so, if you are there.. say hi :) )
I stumbled across a couple of old screenshots of friends in the D. I wanted so badly to log on at that moment. :(
I miss my friends, I miss my city.. and I miss playing my characters.

*Black Ice aka Detective Susan Black

Spending time making resources for Pen n Paper RPG Games (using icon a lot for that).
Playing a couple of old school games, Avernum, & Darklords.
Trying lots of the free to play online games.
-
Hiya Kelp. Not anywhere, really. I've dabbled in things, but nothing suits me. You know me as a heavy rp'er from Virtue, so... that heavy rp has mostly moved to text.
-
I am everywhere.
Which is to say I have dabbled in a wide stretch of games and found them to range from "meh" to "moderately amusing".
-
I'm invested in The Secret World for the moment.
-
Came over to Virtue around the Going Rogue launch. Was able to slowly, but surely, convince almost all my buddies to come over too after a lot of persistence. Best decision we made in terms of convincing us all to keep playing. Teaming was so easy to get done, lots of amazing players, and lots and lots and lots and lots of...entertaining players. Pretty sure I was hated by a lot of the player base on the server, but I think that's mainly to some people not getting the joke. Then there were the ones that obviously got it.

My sg did the same thing - we just couldn't bear to wait for the end to come. It was remarkably difficult to say goodbye, and heavy still to think about. We were the Proteges, on Virtue. We had (basically) themed uniforms that looked like Jack Kirby-era X-men. Homage, not copy. We had three iterations of the game, because players would graduate and start new toons. It was fun until it wasn't, and went til the end. XO Virtuenatics.

@wei yau here
Spent nearly my entire CoH life on Virtue. And I am missing "The Dauntless Reverie" so damn much.
I've been everywhere, from Millennium City to Metropolis and Gotham. From a galaxy far, far away to boldly going where no one has gone before. Even in distant times, from the Far East and Into the West.
And none of it felt like home.

Awwwww yeah! Best. Shopping sprees. Evar. 8)

I'd actually joined up right smack in the middle of the moving drama. Easy decision for me, I was already on Virtue. I am incredibly thankful everyone did move over, best time ever in game was with you guys.
-
So, uh, I've been putting off opening up this thread and reading it. What I lost, more than anything, wasn't the forums, wasn't the game itself, wasn't the Mission Architect--I was crazy about all of those things too, of course; but my biggest loss is Virtue.
So many friends, like family, so many stories, so much history, all of it filled with loose ends, and potential filled with energy, just bursting with energy for a future that was robbed from us. Does that sound overly dramatic? Only the utterly clueless would think so. If you get it, then you get it. If you're here, you probably do.
Sorry to be a downer, I wanted to poke my head in and say something silly or funny. But it wouldn't have been honest. I do count myself lucky. My friends from Virtue, I know where many of them are. They're digitally close, we're keeping in touch, some more than others of course. Over the Cryptic global channels, over Steam, over email. Some of you are still around these forums, though less than there were.
Triplash, your cookies were always a welcome thing to have thrown at me. :) Baronessa, if you're still checking in here, we'll bust fascist heads again some day, see you in CoX global chat. :P And some of you, I met in the very last days, like Atlantea and Megajoule, I wish we'd met sooner. Megajoule put a friendly hand on my shoulder in those last days (and wrote a damn memorable story (http://www.virtueverse.net/wiki/Spirit_of_the_Row/Faces_of_the_City) too). Atlantea made sussing out CO's many frustrations more bearable. And Ascendant, if you ever check in here, it was a (hilarious) honor to RP and just to chat in those last weeks.
That's all I've got for now.
May the Virtue in your toes never fall out. There, I said something silly. :P
-
Triplash, your cookies were always a welcome thing to have thrown at me. :)
Then obviously you weren't there the time I accidentally made a batch using temporal dust instead of baking powder, and they developed the unfortunate side effect of exploding. That was... awkward, to say the least. ???
... aww yeah, good times. ;D
-
@MaHaBone here! Years on Virtue, probably close to 20 levels 50s. My Mains were:

Humongculos
Sweet '76
White Cherry
Joy Buzz
Sprung Honey
Metranome
Dynamite Diggums
Styxie
Two-Fisted Sister

I didn't RP much, unless you count RPing a snarky wiseass, for every single character.
I did try to be proactive about organizing teams, TFs and Incarnate raids, so I've probably teamed with most, if not all of you!

Pure Inferno (United Underworld)
Rabgix (V.S.T.F.)
Doc Monstrous (Grey Watch)
Stalwart Rook (Global Defense Force)
Long time RPer looking to find some of his old friends...
-
Played TSW for a few months. Currently playing LoTRO--Beautiful game, so very immersive. And lately started playing AoC which I am finding very fun, at least for now. And, of course, still thinking about CoH. Still going there in my imagination.
Update: I feel dirty for saying this (it is an NCSoft title) but I'm loving me some GW2 lately.

Hello all, I was a player of Virtue Server, aaand just a heads up, this is my first post on these forums, soooo sorry when I rant.
Dunno if anybody would know me, I was Havok Arm, Cryobird, Flagship, and Kimi Kawa, Last Heir, and a few others.
Shamed to say I don't have pics because I have a new computer, but I was part of the Strikeforce Academy bunch.
I'm subscribed to several gaming related channels on youtube, mostly TGS (The Game Station) and every time I see them talk about MMOs, I can't help but think about City Of Heroes.
Was it the most perfect game of all the world? No, but it was still better than every other game. A game where you come, you fight, you conquer, you have fun. No tedious gear grinding, no rep levels to balance, no epic mounts to get, and it came with an amazing superhero community.
While subscribed to CoH...
I played Aion, came back to City Of Heroes.
I played Star War The Old Republic, came back to City Of Heroes.
I played WoW, came back to City Of Heroes.
I played EvE, I came back to City Of Heroes.
I Played Tabula Rasa, I came back to City Of Heroes.
And now that it's gone, my library expanded even more to Age Of Wushu, Champions Online, DCUO, Star Trek Online, Guild Wars 2, Neverwinter, Dragon Nest, Tera Online, Planetside 2, and Lord Of The Rings Online, not to mention I'm trying to get into beta for Final Fantasy 14 2.0: A Realm Reborn as well as Elder Scrolls Online. And that's just the MMOs! Other games include Guns Of Icarus, Smite, League Of Legends, World Of Tanks, Total War: Shogun 2, Sins of A Solar Empire Rebellion, and much more.
Being deprived of the community I grew up with for 6-7 years of my life (21 now) is like graduating high school without the sense of accomplishment or fanciful ceremony. Just a deep void that can't be filled until a game with equal RP and freedom of customization comes around. At the moment, the closest thing I can think of to fill the void is either FF-14 (which is a hit or miss), Wildstar (which is another victim of NCsoft), or just piling dead bodies in Planetside 2 (which is just me trying to fill a void of hate).
I was supportive of Guild Wars 2 until I learned NCsoft is bleeding them dry as well. All the money they make on the cash market? Goes directly to NCsoft, meaning Gw2 is NCsoft's female dog because Guild Wars 2 has no subscription fee, so how do they make money? Not the cash market, has to be via sales which NCsoft gets a lion's share of. Recent news stated that Gw2 cannot make expansions without NCsofts consent, and NCsoft can force the company to make expansions even if the developers think they shouldn't at the time.
Truely hate that company now... Gives the Korean MMOs all the money they want, heck, I heard they canceled an Everquest project for more funding for Blade And Soul.
Anyway... Rant over.
Ya, I'm around on a lot of MMOs but atm I'm spending most of my time on Age Of Wushu and Planetside 2. AoW is not a great MMO, can't even recommend it to people, but it's... Very different.
I miss RPing in CoH, and I'm aware that after a lot of file tweaking I can make my characters again and roam around the city, but I don't wanna get too attached again, unless the game's rights are actually sold and given to say, Trion or something. Besides, pretty doubtful many people I RPed with even know about TitanNetwork and I have no way to communicate with them.
Ah well, at least I can share my feelings on these forums I guess.
Again, sorry for the rant. Good to meet you all and be among CoH players again.

Pinnacle was mostly my home, but had some fun on Virtue for sure....main Virtue toon was Decaffeinator, redside, SS/Will brute...topped her at 48. Blueside was Angelika Nightspawn, 24, Kin/Will Scrapper.
Done some SW:TOR.....the whole game is not really casual RP friendly...started TSW recently....it's good, but it ain't COX...tried WoW...I hit level 4 and realized, "This profoundly sucks in ways things have never sucked before" Neverwinter looks likely to be pretty WoW-esque...I'm geeked for the WoD online game. OK, two years....but hell, I waited over 20 for the Wheel of Time to finish, 2 years is easy, right? *doing junkie shuffle and scratch*
Did you ever run into me? Well, if you teamed with or RP'd with a weird bitch who could *NOT* type coherently, then that was me.
-
@Ashley Hudson
Played mostly as Rocker Girl on Virtue, which was my favoritest server ever. My RP was mostly limited to in-mission banter as I tried to stay 'in character' when I played. I liked it best that way. Not sure how many of you I ever met or if we'd remember each other, though.
Right now I mostly play GW2 and Neverwinter (just started, though), although I'm happily looking forward to Rift going F2P. I can't stand DCUO or CO...the aesthetics just stink compared to CoX, as do the powers, the gameplay, the controls, the animation...I'm so picky. Whatever comes next will have to be really really amazing.
Sounds like I may have to give Secret World a try though.
-
@TheMindfulFool here.
I ran a small group in City of Villains called Father Gerard Henri's Home for Wayward Youth. Had a blast for about seven months before the closing was announced. I also used to play Otto Shouvocker, proud Praetorian Loyalist.
I'm sort of boring now that CoH is gone. Tried Champions without much success but I've found myself enjoy TSW a bit. It isn't exactly my cup of tea, but I play it about one or twice a week. Though, currently, some of my old VG buddies and I are going to try to play CoH via tabletop. Hopefully it works out. Will find out Thursday.
-

You must have been multi-boxing, because I have had whole PuGs that match that description.
-
Hello Virtueites. I was a UK based player who gravitated via Exalted to Virtue. Enjoyed my time there immensely. By the end I had basically filled almost all character slots on all the servers but was really playing Virtue.
I spent the final weeks of CoX on Virtue just running Adamastor over and over so people could get the badge and stuff. Would rotate through Dr Night (controller), Moongirl (stalker), Divine Wind II (corruptor), and Niteshade (scrapper) mainly to do that every hour or so.
I miss those times so much :(

I remember seeing that villain groups name appearing quite a bit over the year before the shut down. Not sure if I ever teamed with members specifically or if it was just over broadcast, forum posts or even just from the few times I was around the D. At any rate the name was getting around and its one I recognise as being quite active which was always nice to have on redside ;)

I think I got mine with Moongirl at that time. Thanks again if so. :)

LOL
Seriously.....if I don't deliberately go slow, my typing looks like this...."I'll take the Sapper out first" comes out as
I'kll take teh sapepr out frist
I try to type as fast as I want to communicate...fingers cannot keep up with brain, gibberish ensues

Me, too. I'm sure I was on your Adamastor runs with at least half of my characters on Virtue (Mostro, Contraindicator, Green Lectroid, Akrasia, Beast Lightning, Space Pirate Jenny, Mr Methane, Grand Forcible, Psy Dragon, Dino Hunter, Cosmic Death Knell, Peanut Buddha)
-
I was on virtue. But I doubt anyone knew who I was.
-
I remember Unseen Scarlet. I saw her a lot back in the day, but didn't see her for a good long time until the last year or so of the game.
-
Yeah. She was kinda rude like that :-)
I had to be in the right mood to play her, because she was mean to people and it mad me feel bad. She mostly hung out with Breaker, Dead End Case, Thorn Bandit and Bane Spider Tau, if anyone at all. More often than not she just lurked ;)
-
I remember Tau, but none of the others. I wasn't in your 'circle'. For that matter, I wasn't in any circle. I don't think we ever rp'd.
-
I don't think so - who was your main?
-
Raine Heartfall was my main. I'm certain you at least saw her. I also regularly played Hellgirl, Zaxa, Auriana, Aeka, Heavenly Sun, and Kinzie Rose.
-
Ah, yes. Definitely spotted you around :) Nice to sort-of-meet you!
-
My main: Talon Blue, lvl. 50 Claws/SR Scrapper.
I lost all my screenshots, if can find any I'll post. I uninstalled CoH the day I found out it was closing in an upset knee-jerk response and now that I have an entirely new computer, all I really have is memories.... But she was decked out in the martial arts armor and helmet, a shoulder cape with a the dragon pattern all colored blue and white, and a white smoke aura so that when she ran it looked like a trail of mist. I dropped a lot of influence on that toon...(I miss my purple sets, T4 incarnate powers... :( )
Others:
Gulden Draak, lvl. 50 StJ/Nin Stalker (dabbled in PvP)
Death XIII, lvl. 50 Dark Melee/Shield Scrapper (an interpetation on the Death Tarot card)
Grimbergen, lvl. 50 Dark/Energy Blaster (dabbled in PvP)
Valkyrie Lenneth, lvl. 50 Dual Blades/Willpower Scrapper (valkyrie armor costume? Must. Make. Lenneth...)
Psychic Sephora, lvl. 50 Mind/Psi Dominator (yay, Perma-Dom)
(I had a lvl. 50 Night Widow I just can't remember the name, and numerous others I deleted or retired.)
I personally wasn't part of any Supergroups but Virtue had a big cast of characters that often saw.
-
I lost all my screenshots, ... all I really have is memories....
Have you tried this little gem (http://www.cohtitan.com/forum/index.php/topic,7288.0.html)? It's a program Codewalker made. (Or brewed in his lab, or something... freaking wizards.) It lets you create costumes and fly around maps again. Great for screenshots. You can even see the animations for the new powersets that were coming up (what was finished of them at least).
And you can get a client to use it with at this site (http://www.savecoh.com/p/download-issue-24-beta.html).
-
@Great_Cthulhu
Usually Kelvoro blueside and Willow Whisper on red, but I had dozens of others as well. I tried a little Champions but it just didn't measure up. Currently, Kelvoro is serving as an Imperial agent in a galaxy far, far away. When I just want to whack badguys I play a little Diablo III. Nothing matches CoH, though...other games are just lacking in so many ways.
-

We found Redside to be very nice for what we wanted. It had the atmosphere and it also had some really great VGs. A lot of them went out of their way not to disrupt our events and even made for ways to contribute to our own narrative. Black Friday, the Phoenix Group, and Iron Horseman (sorry if I got the names wrong ... been awhile) were some of the few names I recall who were very nice with our transition to the Isles.
-
@returnfire here,
Yeah I haven't been able to find a new game like this to replace the feeling of city of heroes. And believe me I am an avid gamer. Some of you may have known me on my main, Ultra Assassin, played mostly blueside but sometimes I swapped sides on red.
Yeah I really miss this game. Like really miss it a lot. I do hope it comes back.
-
@MaxEternal here. I played on Virtue, i tried SWKTOR but quit after about level 30. Tried CO and made it till about level 7 and was bored and uninstalled the game. Played DCUO for about 5 minutes and uninstalled it. I am holding out hope for a CoH private server, one of the spiritual successors or TF Hail Mary to come through.
-
Hey there.
Was on Justice in Oct 2004 when I first started. But in 2006 moved over to Virtue and never regretted it.
I only RPed at a casual level, but I enjoyed responding to others. Mostly I played the game and helped SG mates from the Legendary and others.
My mains -
Cyberman 8 (Pictured in the my icon)
Kara Skye
Lily the Diamond
Sassinak
Lora'Lai
Startracker Zero
And about 40+ others mostly on Virtue but scattered a bit on Justice, Champion and Infinity.
You'll mainly find me in Champions Online and Star Trek Online these days. Though I've dabbled in DCUO (Not nearly as bad as people say - But it plays VERY differently, and you need to adapt your playstyle if you want to enjoy it.) and TSW and GW2.
Oddly, I've been more at "home" in STO of late. But that sort of thing goes in cycles with me.
I keep in touch here and a bit on the Facebook pages.
We'll keep the flame until we find a home. And we will find it. Or make it. Of that you can be sure.
-
Yeah Kelp, I remember you. Been a few years since I had enough time to play an MMO.
-
Is Morvani. Played City from May 2004, and was there frantically trying to hang onto Virtue as it kept throwing us off at the end. Those of you who may know me probably remember me best as Parzifal (and many permutations of spelling thereof). Parz has moved to TSW's London. I haven't played much there, though, because I never see anyone I (or he) know. Not doing much of anything currently I'm afraid, although I have been in contact with a friend at the revived FASA Games about helping out with a bit of editing work for the Earthdawn line.
-
I was on virtue. But I doubt anyone knew who I was.
Parz remembers Vandellia. And more to the point, I remember you sending me that weblink for the site that had all the Kernewek curse words!
-
I played Belle Barium on Virtue.
Even as the game was shutting down, I started to shift to other interests.
As for the games themselves, I'm playing the best superhero MMO on the market right now: Team Fortress 2. I currently main a 500-pound russian man, who has a primary power of being able to fire a chaingun and has the secondary powerset of "Sandvich Eating and Throwing".
You can find me on Steam as 'Wallet Inspector', playing in 2Fort on the western servers. Look for Snake. :3
I make rare appearances in CO, usually walking around Club Caprice and looking for old faces - but I am not happy with how it runs, so I don't see myself leveling up there.
I recently tried DCUO and had more fun with it than I thought I was going to have, so if you see a chocolate-haired girl in a yellow suit, and boots, say Hi.
I have posted several screenshots and all of my Virtue alts on my deviantart Page, and recently started my Tumblr to post about my general interests in the game world. Check it out, yo.

So many names and faces I remember.
Kelp, you were never lame. Stop that talk. Of course, you and I were in similar boats, there. Too young to to keep egos in check at the time CoH launched. I feel you, brother.
Thaneval! Go figure you'd be here. I swear, you're one of CoH's most dedicated forumites.
Reiraku: Green hair, right? That's how I always remembered you.
Megajoule: I think we've interacted... once, perhaps, but not more than that. Still, I remember you quite a bit from the forums most of all. Unless you had alts I played with and didn't know about it o.O
Heroid :o By far, one of the best storytellers Virtue ever had. I had a good thing going when I was playing with you. One of the biggest mistakes I think I ever made was in letting that go.
Vandellia: I don't think I could forget you. Met through Psyrius, and though our playtimes didn't match up due to being on opposite ends of the world... I can't think of an interaction with you I didn't enjoy, however brief a time it was that we hung out.
Morvani, I clearly remember you best from the Gemini Park days. I always had a certain respect for your character. Like the debauchery of mine would naturally tone itself down in your presence. Is that weird?
So many other names I've seen on these forums that I miss hanging out with. Part of me is worried that I managed to burn too many bridges as a young, foolish teenager, that I might never fit in with the folks I love again. At the very least, I've stopped trying to hide from my own stupid past. At the end of the day, a chance to see everyone again is worth confronting those mistakes.

If you're the Septa I'm thinking of, I was in Teamspeak for your first DJ session. It was awesome just hearing everyone else cheering you on as you were taking the stage.
I was also Rusted Furnace, I used to hang out a lot on that Teamspeak with Forrest the others.
-
*waves to fellow science hero Belle*
Ah. Miss Megajoule! Seen you on the forums, and I believe we even had alts on the old PCPD with Officer Celara? :D
-
Not sure anyone there remembers me-
Seen you at Gemini Park, I think I remember that you had a female and a male version of Kelp. XD
I was.. kind of also there shortly after you had heard of the shutdown. I'm really sorry that all I was able to do was run around in RWZ with you. Now that I think of it, I didn't really offer that much consolation. It's good to see you around.
-
I'm here. I lurk, but I'm here.
Kelp, you were never annoying. You were always endearing. :)
I know every name on this page--although many I never interacted with. I lurked on the main CoH boards too. ;)
I miss you all tons.
-
@Wulfie here, main on Virtue since launch was Wulfen, member of the Guardian Force and oldest adopted smartass of Ireland Love.
Also was Vostok, Rushmore, Texas Twister, Brass Sentinel, Master of Savate, G Man, Demolition Derby, The Alien Overmind, Exodus 22-18 (the bane of magic users both heroic and villainous) and the insidious broker of souls: Mister Scratch.
Pay no attention to that poser that showed in the Pocket D once a year, Mister Scratch was mine from the CoV beta onwards to live on Virtue (and even before then as a faceless NPC)
-
Reiraku: Green hair, right? That's how I always remembered you.
Reiraku had purple hair, but you might be thinking of one of my alts, Crying Silk. She rocked the green a lot.
-
Rusted Furnace... I remember the name like it was... 7 years ago. lol. I do remember that name, though! Gosh, talk about a long time.
Ireland Love and Wulfie, too! What a mind trip this thread is becoming for me.
I have included in my profile every method of contact I can think of. I'm inches from putting my facebook account into my signature.
You know... I don't know that I ever answered what I've been up to.
Don't play much in the way of MMOs anymore. Not many of them really speak to me. I toy with GW2 with my fiancee. She has more max level characters than me. Most of my time is spent roleplaying on forums (mostly with said fiancee) and working on costuming. She got into Steampunk costumes this year, which spurred me to pick up my own hobby... Mandalorian Armor. :D
Found a Mandalorian Costume Club. Eats up most of my time these days. That and wedding planning... only 3 weeks till that's over, now. o.O
-
@Fulcrum here.
Played the game from it's very first tottering steps to the very end (/em holdtorch) when Nc$oft pulled the plug. I'm still pretty angry about the closure. Angry enough to play the role of mentor to folks idly interested in trying an Nc$oft product.
It's amazing what a few 'You know...'s and 'Did you see what they did to this's can do to a prospective customerbase.
Regardless, I haven't installed ICON yet because for me, right now, it'd be like picking at a fresh scab but I expect I will eventually. Ghods know I want my city back.
I haven't found something to take it's place... I don't think there is something that can yet. CO, EQemu, Tekkit Lite Minecraft, Neverwinter Nights and Neverwinter Nights 2 are the games I've all played since the closure.
-
Getting more and more into TSW.
-
Septa :-).
So nice to see you again. I hope you're doing well. Thank you so much for the kind words :-) I always had a blast hanging with you, too :-)
-
Ice_Wall here, Joined October 10th, 2005 - Forever and Always a Virtue-ite.
I tried CO for a bit, just can't get into it. So much about that game that annoys me. I've not tried any other MMOs, just not into them as much. Played some Marvel Alliance on FB for a bit, but burnt out on it at the moment...
I've been away from these boards a while because honestly it just makes me miss CoH, but now I've been getting into reading them more. Been missing CoH a lot recently.
-
...I've waited long enough, was @Bold on Virtue, I played Bold, Noble, Peppy, Persistent, Daring, Loyalty, Mr. Lion, Johnny RockStar, the Dark Sentry...and the list keeps going. If you didn't know me on Noble or Bold, you probably didn't know me, though. Anyway, hi to you all!
-
HERE!
<garimi=DJ Ginger/ Pteglaksa Softcoat- Wronski of the Children of Asterion /Melloncollie
Played some TSW. I do like it but it is not all that RP friendly .
My Old WoW where I gotz bling.
Some SWTOR but I just cant get into it.
I mostly futz about on steam, WoW and just hang in dance at select safe places in Second Life.
I have not given up yet. But busy with some personal life stuff away from home state.
I miss CoX. It was unique in its flexibility that still had a Lore foundation.
Not been posting much... not that I was ever big-time poster

That sounds like exactly the sort of thing I'd do!

I'm gonna do a big forum no-no and revive this thread in hopes that old friends will see it or be notified about replies or something. Been thinking about you guys a lot more recently and I'm hoping for the chance to properly reconnect.
I have a discord server I'd like to invite all your virtuites to. A place we can hang out and chat from time to time, maybe even get into some roleplay hijinks again if you're into that sort of thing.

The Cape Radio has a chunk of the Virtue Community still following it. You can visit their website at www.thecaperadio.com and click on "Chat" to add their Discord server to your list too. RP isn't readily available on the chat channels, however, as the radio station's chats are all out of character. Just another source to find possible RP players at.
Paragon Dawn also has COH refugees. They have a website at paragondawn.com, but they use Enjin to connect to each other.

Well, I don't remember my old handle [might've been @kaaduu1280 or something along those lines] but I played several dragon characters during my time in Virtue, namely Yimira. and Darkstar Kaaduu. Usually hung out with a few other dragons like Allastor Darkflame and several others, though was always introverted and sat around the Pocket for the most part.
As of late I've been trying a lot of other MMOs and the only thing to come close for me has been Final Fantasy 14, though I have been playing Elder Scrolls Online a fair bit more lately as I'm out of a job.
