For those of you going (or thinking of going), here's a whole boatload of extra incentive!

Vicky (Mercedes Lackey) has been named the GenCon 2013 Author Guest of Honor!

If you're coming, make sure to give her a warm welcome (and no that doesn't mean lobbing fireballs at her, so leave your blasters and pyronic judgements AT HOME!)

ADDENDUM:

I have an update for people!

GenCon this year is

Wednesday, August 15th
to
Sunday, August 18th.

And our special guest is Victoria Victrix (Mercedes Lackey).

In talking with her, I promised her (and Larry) some good eatin'. Y'know. Starving artists and all.

As for the time, it's a little earlier than in previous years due to some scheduling, as she's a GenCon guest of honor.

As something of a compromise (and because she likes good eats), she's agreed to actually do a M&G evening two days in a row.
Not sure why. But this lady likes us.

So:

Date #1: Friday, August 16th
Time: 4:30PM
Location: Weber Grill

Date #2: Saturday, August 17th
Time: 5PM
Location: Weber Grill

Well sadly as of now I don't have a way there. My friend brought me to the last M&G because he has a nice fuel efficient vehicle. But my big ass tank would drain my bank account just driving to there let alone driving back. Might be able to convince him to go at the last minute.

I'm not sure how much has changed in Nap-town, since I moved back to Germany but, as I recall, Alcatraz had some good eats -no to mention their microbrewed goodness- and isn't too far from the convention center.

Okay guys. Sorry about the last minute nature of this.

Our guests have discovered they have a 6PM panel they have to attend.

With this being a "sit down" place, the odds of being seated, ordering, having the food and having time to eat in under an hour is kinda slim.

As such, we're bumping the start time by half an hour.

Yes. We were there until around 7-ish.

Afterwards I tried to leap over to a M&G for the Kitcheneers on G+. Unfortunately nobody was there. Not even the event runner...

If you're the event runner, in the future there's a few things to remember.

1: Be there for your own event!

2: Make sure you're REALLY exact about where you're having the event. The place this was supposed to be held was in an apartment building. 2 distinct (and completely separate) entrances with 4 apartments.

3: Holding an event in a gated community isn't really a great idea if you don't supply access to your guests.

Okay. About the second M&G tonight. Sorry that it turned into such a fuster-cluck.
For YEARS now, it's been a MAJOR pain to get a venue because nobody would take reservations.
Tonight, we arrived at Weber Grill and were told "Sorry, we are booked solid with reservations"...

And I had to forcibly restrain myself from biting the poor maitre'd's head off.

So we had something like 20 people show and we had about 10 seats.

I'm going to see if we can figure out a better plan for next year, because the whole restaurant thing isn't working.

Well, there's a bit of cost involved but you could book a meeting room at a hotel. Then everyone could BYOB and pizza could be ordered.

I had a great time seeing y'all last night, though I wish I'd had time to get to meet more of you. The conversation I had with Tanklet, Randomvector, and ... Lydiastar (?, sorry I'm blanking) was fun, though. I hadn't been to HeroCon or any other M&G before to be able to talk about City of Heroes with other people who played it, so that was quite nice.

Don't beat yourself up too badly about the restaurant issues. I know from first-hand experience that things like that can happen when an unpredictable outside entity is involved, and you just have to roll with it. Mad props for volunteering to organize the M&G in the first place. I'm sorry I didn't connect with you earlier in the day, though, but I didn't realize until right before 5:00 that Catalyst had a booth in the dealer room in addition to what I had seen in the demo hall that morning. Oops.

Home and brain is finally becoming capable of coherent thought again.
It was a blast meeting with you guys. Idea for a hotel room is great, but with Gen-con I think most of the local ones to the convention centre are in use.
Maybe become an official Gencon "Event" and get in the book? I told a bunch of people I met through wearing my AP33 shirt about it (some even showed up) but not everyone knew about it.
But maybe that was good with the restaurant issues involved.

Love this community.

Wish I was wittier in person and online so I could express this better than "it was a blast"
