P.S.: Sorry for being rather formal with you all here, I'm afraid writing this just after the shutdown put me in a REALLY weird mood - plz be sure that I don't expect any formality in response and that I'm already better (but much more tired and likely less coherent), just ask anyone who knows me ingame
... eh, I might just edit it later.
Hey folks,
just so you know, I have prepared this post offline, about 15 mins after shutdown, so that it still makes sense when the forum is back up and I finally get hit with the crash from all that caffeine, sugar and the trials and this forum recovers from the insane load spike of a large part of the CoX community trying to access it at once. In hindsight, I can only facepalm that i have not fully expected this.
I just checked, and added up all the folders, and ended up with 795 gigs of raw avi as well as 2.15 gigs of demorecords. The raw avis translate to roughly 23 hours of video, I am unable to estimate how much material is in those demorecords.
Since these include some failed records, accidental records and assorted tests and junk, especially on the raw video, there may be as much as 10 to 20 percent garbage in those numbers (as a mildly sleep deprived estimate). They are also very minimalistically named, the videos are even only named with a timestamp.
I fully intent to properly encode these soon, but achieving a decent quality and compression is going to take me a long time as my CPU is a few years old. And even after that, my upstream is rather limited (I have my connection for truly excellent pings, uptime and support, not bandwidth). Those few encodes I have done so far have reduced the size by a factor of 30 while still retaining a quality I consider VERY good, but those encodes are around 15 times slower than real time.
Encoding with rather low quality, for example to host a preview on youtube, is vastly faster, and results in much smaller files at times, so if there is sufficient interest, I will start doing these first while I start looking at what it even is that I have.
Lastly, those few things I have now:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fsItpc1WRxoA Rikti Dropship kill that I really need to re-record from the demo since I missed part of it breaking down; but at least the final explosion is nicely centered.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0f6IiWYUGIk and
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uoZfkULboPsThis is a rather nice mom we recently did on Union. Very few instructions since we were mostly regulars, but I think I have at the very least one with the complete set somewhere in my piles ... but that is for later. I had to split it since my youtube acc is rather new.
As a matter of note, the files I uploaded to youtube look MUCH better than what you get if you watch it there, even on 720p, which is the highest it lets me choose. I'll make a direct screenshot comparison later, but if you watch the youtube version, the chat is somewhat fuzzy, while the original file looks nearly as good as ingame, and is much more easily readable.
And with all that said for now, I think it's time for a tiny break since I'm starting to feel the crash incoming, I'll be active again Sunday at the latest
