So earlier this week I got called out by the host of the Save CoH Radio Show Rich Banks to take part in the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge. Unfortunately I couldn't meet the 24 hour commitment due to stuff going on, so after whisking away my donation (at ALSA.org (http://alsa.org)), I finally got around to doing the drenching deed this afternoon. Truth be known, dumping a bucket of ice water on yourself on a Georgia summer afternoon is not an entirely unpleasant experience.

Anyway, now for my challenges!

The ALS Association has currently (as of August 22) raised over $42 million in the past month alone. Last year, they raised $19.4 million during the entire year. So as long as this continues to raise awareness and prods people to donate (ALSA.org (http://alsa.org)), let's keep bringing on those buckets!

OK. Here's my official response to Tony's challenge.
First, I'm going to take an opportunity to not only help raise awareness about ALS, but to also raise awareness about a condition known as cold uticaria (http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cold_urticaria). Funny story: It took me 38 years to realize that I was apparently the only one who always got really itchy (and sometimes broke out in hives) after spending time outside during the winter and coming back in to the heat. (And I went to college here (https://goo.gl/maps/xw7hQ).)
I really don't want to spend an entire day scratching myself raw, so I'm going to skip the IBC (Ice Bucket Challenge) and enjoy an IBC (http://www.ibcrootbeer.com/) instead.
As a form of compensation for skipping out on the ice bucket, I will not only be making a donation to the ALS Association, but I also intend to make donations to the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson's Disease Research (RIP Robin Williams), and water.org (everyone in the world should have access to clean water). In addition, I'll be making a donation to the National Science Foundation if they take donations, but I don't think that they do. Failing that, I'll find another yet-to-be-determined non-profit that funds general science and research to donate to. (Feel free to make some recommendations!)
How's that for a compromise?
