Bus stops with no buses
Having destructive super powers like AOEs and novas and ONLY hitting the bad guys even though your teammates are standing right next to you
Running at super speed through the streets only to be stopped cold by a mail box or the bus-less bus stops
Little old ladies being able to hang onto their purses being pulled by mobs for days on end without ever stopping

Well, clearly those little old ladies are either Nemesis automatons, or heroes who don't want to blow their secret identities by fighting back. :P
Also a few other one's; The Clockwork working, Malta using anything other than sappers, Sky raiders using anything other than jet-packs and force-fields, and Lord Recluse relying entirely on shrimp to fuel the Rogue Isles economy ;D

Those aren't all shrimp... half of those "shrimp" fishermen are actually black market smugglers.
That's why the Rogue Isles are such a wretched hive of scum and villainy.

In Issue 23, the trainers being tailors. There you are standing in board daylight having your costume altered.
How about being in a large room with about 8 mobs. You fight one mob using noisy powers, and the other mobs just stand their ground pounding their fists into their hands. Even if they can't hear you, they can see you.
-

Eh, the Clockwork were pretty much outright said to be puppets animated by Clockwork King's psychic powers.

Yep. That's why psychic type did so much more damage to them!

I once followed a few pedestrians just to see the walk algorithm.
It was a mindless long circle around buildings, sometimes going up stairs (Train station).
...then down again leading to no real destination.

That last one I never got - unless they were all optically challenged, how could the group just down the hall not see you beat up their comrades and come help them. Or maybe they did and just don't care?

"Nah, Frank's got those 8 super powered guys. Right Frank? ...Frank?"
The NPCs in City Hall that walked on invisible floors several feet above the actual floor.
Enhancements. Story-wise there is no good way to explain going to a store and saying "My Fireball makes me too tired when I use it, do you have anything to make it a bit easier to use? Wait, you only sell TECHNOLOGY ways to make it cost less. Dang. I need a SCIENTIFIC way to do it."

this sounds too much like a viagra ad... "you know sixty percent of superheroes over level 23 have problems making and sustaining fireballs"

I always wondered about things like heart implants and cybernetics, from a conceptual point of view. So you just swap those things in and out like it's nothing?

Speaking of which it doesn't just apply to science and tech stuff either, even natural gets affected

The fact that the moon rises in the south. I never got over that one. (I was a science fan in school, especially astronomy, which I still love. So, yeah, I noticed.)
The fact that you could use anything - fire, rockets, tornado - inside a building, and do no damage to it whatsoever.

The architecture inside the office buildings clearly being designed by a mad man. How practical is it to go up an elevator, walk through long winding halls, up some stairs, down some stairs, and finally get to the next elevator? And HOPE that is the one that you need?
And where were all the offices anyway? We might see a couple cubicles and conference rooms, but not nearly enough to warrant all those hallways.

Yeah, the hallways seemed designed by a Dungeons & Dragons mapmaker. And what about all the wasted, unaccessible space on each floor, assuming a standard, four-sided structure?
-
i always meant to draw up the layout of each floor of one of the bigger buildings and see what it would look like from the outside, but i'm too lazy. i have to imagine it'd take some miraculous engineering feats for some of those buildings though.

I actually vaguely remember seeing someone having done this years ago, but I have no idea where. I remember it being based on a map where there were no "decorative" doors that could not be clicked, so every wall and hallway was taken very literally, on the outside it was just a huge jumbled mess.
Another thought along the same lines, all the buildings in the game had only one-way windows...as in the windows ONLY existed on the outside of the building, with the exceptions of the AE buildings, Recluse's tower, and Wentworth's.
-
I remember more than once entering a building and thinking to myself that there is no way the layout of this map could fit in the size of building I just entered.
I also always wondered why people using Super Jump didn't crash through the roof of the buildings they were landing on from time to time.
And then there is the chronic neck problems everyone seemed to suffer from that kept the enemies from looking up.

Why do I need to get on a train? I run/fly/jump/teleport ten times faster than it.

What kind of property value does Paragon City/Rogue Isles have if EVERYONE lives in an apartment building? Even New York City has houses.
On the subject of apartment buildings, why were every single one of them fire proof with the exception of 4 or 5 in Steel Canyon? Come to think of it all the flammable ones were identical, remind me to never hire that contractor :P

Paragon City could win an award for ADA non-compliance. Friggin stairways everywhere.
What kind of property value does Paragon City/Rogue Isles have if EVERYONE lives in an apartment building? Even New York City has houses.
What does it do to the property values to have criminals and monsters on every corner? Think of all the potentially lethal dangers you'd drive by if you had even a 15 minute commute.

There are trucks in town but people in Kings Row feel the need to carry big pieces of lumber on their shoulders.

Fair point. xD

Posi says in the Lore AMA that he placed exploration badges because of something interesting nearby: http://paragonwiki.com/wiki/Lore_AMA/Sorted#221
Badges were never random. There was always some interesting vista, view, or point of interest nearby that story was crafted around. (I placed all the exploration badges for the original CoH zones)
Although this is contradicted by an earlier question, where he says he wrote them, but the placement was determined by someone else: http://paragonwiki.com/wiki/Lore_AMA/Sorted#58
For any badge before Issue 6, I made it up off the top of my head when I went to the location that someone had picked to place a badge. What you see is all there is.
Either way, I never considered exploration badges to be "official" Paragon City stuff. It's not like anyone is going to remember, let alone mark, where Synapse met Mynx for the first time. As I recall, most of the actual statues or plaques were in reasonably normal places.
Edit: Maybe it's not contradictory: maybe someone said "place a badge in this general area" and he went there, picked a nifty spot in that general area, and wrote the text.

When security level by zone mattered, I found it curious that you found civilians in higher level zones.
I mean, why would it be that my 20th level super-duper dude couldn't get into PI, but it was populated with non-powered joe-schmoes?
-
Those were secret identify civilian disguises ;)
I don't remember PI ever having a level restriction, most of the level based zones were not civilian friendly except maybe Striga.

Could be I'm mistaken, yet the point is how do the regular 0-lvl joe's live in/survive in a non-hazard zone, when a suped-up- Johnny like me can't get to the bus without being dog-piled and sent to the hospital?
Course, I do like the secret id's explanation. :D

And the Arboretum in Atlas
-
I remember that fake superhero NPC in the revamped Atlas Park, Super Guy. He'd run from the bad guys outside of City Hall to get to the hospital in the courtyard south of there, then stop at the wall, melt through the ground torso-deep, then fall completely into the sidewalk.
Turned out he really was a Super Guy. I want to be able to pass through solid matter, too.

Phasing was a power set I always wanted and never could figure out why we didn't get. It's an obvious one, many big comic characters have had it for years. The best I could come up with was that they didnt want to explain how you could phase through bad guys, bullets, and all that but not a bus stop.

there was this green superhero with a cape who spawned on the north or east side parking lot of city hall, talking on his cellphone, if you aggro'd a group of enemies near him, he'd make some excuse into the phone he was talking on, and then run away towards the hospital.

My goodness! I never saw him (as I recall). He's not in the wiki (as far as I can tell). We must add him!

I lurked in Atlas all the time, and I don't remember ever seeing him either! :o
Personally the thing that never made sense to me was attacking people with swords, giant mallets, throwing knives, and any number of other potentially lethal weapons(not to mention powers like fire...), and every single (living) enemy was only ever "defeated", but never killed. (Inanimate objects, such as robots, Clockwork, or zombies don't count, although technically the combat log always said "defeated" for them too...)
"I'm just gonna stab you several dozen times in the chest with these foot long claws sticking out of my hand; I'm sure you won't bleed out and/or die before you get teleported to the hospital..."
I swear, every fight ever in City of Heroes is like this video here (https://youtu.be/1byycwl8qgc)...

1. A large city with a grand total of about 15 cars running at any time.
2. Random mission doors. I loved the bank map mission I received where the entrance happened to be a wooden door in the side of a hill on a remote island.
3. Civilians that constantly walk over top of you. Apparently not that grateful for your super-heroics.
4. Villains hanging out on every street corner, and outnumbering the citizens by about 10 to 1.
5. A city with zero pollution, zero garbage, and very little noise.
6. Police stations that have sirens running 24x7. I'd say the officers have migraines.
7. Buildings where the interiors change every time you enter them.
-

*snip*
4. Villains hanging out on every street corner, and outnumbering the citizens by about 10 to 1.
I think these two are actually directly related... Who would want to drive a car in a city where you might be carjacked at every street corner? Also explains number 5 a little, since everyone fled the city resulting in less population to cause polution, both of garbage and noise varieties.

I once had a "Recover the painting" mission from the police radio that sent my team into a network of caves, at the end the glowie was a refrigerator.
We decided that the valuable stolen painting was actually a finger painted painting some cop's kid had done, and it was stuck to the fridge with magnets.
-
I wanna know how they plugged in the refrigerator.

Magic. How else would they have gotten the thing down into some random cave? Not even the Trolls or the Lost would've bothered dragging something that big down there... The Circle of Thorns on the other hand... Gotta keep those spell reagents fresh. :P
-

It was the same amazing technology that powered up the blue button

Having destructive super powers like AOEs and novas and ONLY hitting the bad guys even though your teammates are standing right next to you
This is pure game play, "Friendlyfire" in MMOs is outright the worst singular idea you could do, it would mean that you could effectively never use an AOE attack for fear of a blaster accidentally edging into it, Defenders could -never- use their toggle debuffs, nor could dark..no patch effects could be remotely effectively used.
Oh and MMs would be unplayable.
This has been tried, Dragon Age has the option for it in at least the first game..and I have never, ever seen anyone use it.

- Travelling by train
- Train just pulling out every time you enter the platform, but the arrival train always there
- No matter where you went by train, it took the same amount of time
- There was never a line of people waiting for the train
- The layout of the train tracks in the zones seemed strange
- Portals next to the train stations
- Not being able to skip content and levels on new toons, when you already have a level 50
- Crime, in a city full of supersheroes

Oh I understand why its like that. Its just funny that a power could work that way. Its like if Johnny Storm went Nova in the midst of a battle and burned everyone except Reed who was standing next to him.

Every other civilian that sees that is saying "If I don't see it, it's not my problem." or "There are a million freaking super heroes in this city, why should I call the cops? What are they going to do?"
No, the better point on that topic is:
There are robed cultists summoning class ten full torso free floating apparitions in broad daylight in a city park with a human sacrifice and 30 heroes will just ignore it before someone who happens to be in the right level range and feels like it will save them.

Did anybody mention getting a mission, running to the door of the building, and after opening the door, you're in a cave?

Whilst Paragon city may be filled with superheroes its like....super turbo omega filled with supervillains and gangs, so the crime thing does kind of make sense.

There were definitely two consecutive IP mishes in the Citadel TF that were the same door back to back. It was nice since it was usually the ass-end of IP but it was also before he gave his cell number so everyone had to stand there waiting and if no one had recall the poor leader had a serious hike.

I'm an agile staff fighter with super reflexes and sick moves, but unfortunately I cannot get out of the way of your attack or chase you down if you run away as I am stuck in place until my animations finish...

What about all the helicopters in the game sitting engines running burning fuel going nowhere?
And speaking of helicopters, how about standing on the main rotor, and not getting thrown to the ground?
And of course, the rotor blades passing through you? They should have generated knockback.
Pretty much the same for vehicles, they just drove through you. They should have generated KB, too.
And in the Vanguard base at the firing range, when a toon wanders in front of the targets the shooters should stop firing. There should be an announcement, "Cease fire, clear the range!"

Having super jump as your travel power and being able to jump incredible heights yet if you walked off a building from the same height, you took damage. I miss it EVERY DAY!

Yep. This was the sort of glitch that just added to the charm of the game....

One of the things about the game that never made any sense to me was the fact that the Broadsword power was available to brutes....but not to tanks.
I salivated about what I could do with a tank build which had the defensive attack of parry to stack with it's other defensive powers. Why should it be available to brutes but not to tanks?
Go figure.

Well considering the vast armies of street gangs all over the city, and the colossal battles that go on in paragon between Heroes and giant Clockwork robots every week, I'd say most people have gotten bored of recording the fighting that goes on ;D

During a Rikti invasion, all the NPC's go inside. All the street gangs. Everybody, except the trainers and the contacts.
In Talos, the battle was right across the street from the trainer and the police drones, neither of which helped.
In Atlas, the battle raged around Ms. Liberty. And the only thing she did to save her city was to say "Your doing well.".

Nothing about the present system made sense. It was fun, dont get me wrong, I liked it and a lot of the things mentioned in this thread, but story-wise it made absolutely no sense for the presents to give random rewards.
Also, why is being naughty on a villain a bad thing? Isn't that the goal? :P

Well maybe the villain helped an old lady across the street. That would be naughty by villain standards.

Yeah, I do a similar strategy in STO with my Boff and Engineering captain... lay out a bunch of mines and turrets, and if anything untoward spawns, it's hamburger

Did anyone mention that the elevators only went between two floors but had several buttons on them.
And the elevator buttons weren't up and down like normal elevators in real life, they had floor numbers on them.
And the floor numbers on the elevators didn't corespond to the actual number of florrs in the building.

I remember missing "Rudolph" or "The March of the Wooden Soldiers" and bawling my eyes out because I had to wait until the next Christmas to see them again. This generation of instant gratification has no concept of this. My kids watch Christmas shows now whenever they want. Kind of takes the uniqueness away from the holiday.

And take the game itself. In my day as a kid - the top of the line home video game was a large square shooting another large square with smaller squares, while navigating through more squares.
Now look at what we play. I was watching a basketball game on a TV in Best Buy and thought it was a live game when it was in fact an Xbox One game playing in demo mode.
I can just imagine what COH would look like now with redone, modern day graphics.

I tells ya - kids these days are spoiled with tech. My niece is 18 now and has no concept of not having cell phones, and DVRS and 10,000 tv channels and internet and everything else that was non existent when I was a kid.
-
Man, when I was a kid, the only video game we had was trying to get the vertical hold on the TV to sync.
Remember hitting the side of the TV, like Fonz w/out the cool, and it actually helped somehow.
Today, hitting the side of tech will most likely break it.
(Yes, I quoted myself. I'm not too proud to admit it.)
-
Yeah, I miss the good old days - 3 channels to choose from. And to be honest, there was more quality programming to watch
back then than you can find on a thousand channels today.
Remember, you had to actually get up and walk over to the TV to change the channel? :)
No frigging cell phones stuck to people's ears all the time - or kids with their eyes glued to their screen as they blindly walk around texting.
People actually TALKED to each other.
Yes, I'm getting old. Proud of it.
-
V-hold was fun, but I always preferred the antenna dance, you now, carefully twisting, bending, angling, and foiling up the rabit ears or hand cranking the roof unit back and forth

Yep, been there, done that. :)

Ah, the haze of nostalgia :P

Remember channels 2 - 13. Of course growing up in NJ near NY we only got 2, 4, 5, 7, 9, 11 & 13. Then there was always that mysterious channel "U".
My parents got remote control once I was big enough to get up and change the channel for them.
-
I loved laying on the floor in front of the TV.
Of course, that made me the remote.
I grew up where we got 4 out-of-town, 5 out-of-town, 9 out-of-town, 11 local PBS, and 13 local CBS, and sometimes 2 out of St. Joe.
Later came 19, 27, 41, and 49
When we got cable, we basically got those channels a whole lot better, and HBO.
Remember going to the video rental store and renting a VCR-player?
Now, you get TV on your smart phone.

Christmas of 1982, with my first "real" paying job, I bought my parents a Sony Beta VCR. The first videotape we ever owned was "The Quiet Man". The video cost like $95.

My kids watch Christmas shows now whenever they want. Kind of takes the uniqueness away from the holiday.
...do they want to watch Christmas shows not during December?

Took me a second ;D

Oh yeah. If I see "Mickey's Once Upon A Christmas" one more time this year, I may go on a killing spree (and I'm a Christmasphile).

An entire city without children

An entire city without children
You know I never thought about that until you just said it - but you're right!
-
Also, there is nobody walking dogs.
And bunches of people walking around, but not carrying anything, like grocery bags.
-
A city with fighter jets, attack helicopters, and even blimps, but not a single air field
-
The rogue Isles had landing fields, but it might have been only for the Sky Raiders.
-
Basketball and tennis courts with no one playing the sports.
-
No kids and no pets? And here i always thought it was the gameplay that made me like the game so much.

Choked up laughing reading that!

The body of every vehicle is coated with an amazing frictionless surface.
...while every fence in the game is coated with glue, as you'd find out if you ever tried to jump over one while standing in contact with it.

Did anybody mention getting a mission, running to the door of the building, and after opening the door, you're in a cave?
There was one mission -- I forget whose story arc it was -- that sent you to a warehouse, generally in the south end of Independence Port, where you entered the warehouse and found yourself in a 5th Column/Council base, with an entry blurb describing how you found the entrance to the base in the basement of the warehouse. It was the only mission that I found where the door you entered was different from the map you arrived on and you got an explanation of why that happened.
-
Using Icon, I was able to determine that the inside of the arena is larger than the outside.
The same is probably true of most of the building that you can enter.
-
In another thread it was confirmed that the city maps don't line up at all and Tera Volta is much larger than the space given it within Independence Port.

Here's another, that I just mention in "Where have all the heroes gone: forum" a discussion thread for my fan fiction, Ms. Liberty is in three places at once.

After all Lady Jayne came out of nowhere, they could have came up with somebody else for two of those spots.

They tried to take Ms. Liberty out of AP. It broke a bunch of arcs they didn't want to have to fix in a hurry. So they put her back.

Oh yeah, I even wrote an AE arc that had Kolinda sending heroes in to defeat the evil twin of Ms. Liberty.
At the end of the arc, Kolinda tells you that that was the real Ms. Liberty you defeated and that the Longbow are looking for you. Classic.
So, even I would have to re-write something if Ms. Liberty made more sense.
