Found a few older than me at 53 but curious how it breaks down.
-
47 - there was a semi regular group I used to play on at one point where I was the youngest.
-
39. I got all my 'grindey' MMO fix with MUDS and Everquest in the day.
While I often went off to look at the 'new shiney', I always migrated back to CoH before too many months passed.
-
I didn't even know we had the ability to make polls... huh...
I'm 21.
-
I turned 35 in October. And of the people I talked with often enough to find out stuff like age, it was a pretty even mix from high school students right up to grandparents.
-
I'll be 54 next month. And of the few people that have mentioned their age while I was teamed with them, I've encountered several older than I, including one in their 60s.
-
46 here. I remember threads on the forums with comments from people in the 50s and 60s, maybe your poll shouldn't have topped out at "45+"?
-

By a year... ;D
-
I'm really not sure about the basis of this poll. I've played 6 MMOs since 2004, and in every single one of them I found plenty of older gamers (40-60+) and the claims that "this game/guild really caters to a more mature player base."
-
I have a feeling that the poll will be skewed a bit high because the young folk wouldn't have come here, they are likely already off playing another game and not commiserating here.
I'm 50 BTW.

Some of us older folks are doing both :D
BTW, I was so happy to see you here, FXmas! *thumbsup* You were one of the posters I was going to miss most!
-
23, but started when I was 16 :P
-
23, but started when I was 16 :P
It seems as though us 20-somethings are a rare breed here at Titan!
-
Technically I was in a lower age group when I started playing.
-
47 here.
-
OK, I will admit it. After playing so many Male & Female characters, so many Young & Old, I am really a 56 year old Male. But I played with the Heart of a Lion.
Anyone with a problem I will meet in the Monkey cage. :-)
-
45. Just got bifocals.
And get off my lawn! :P
-
67 and steaming rapidly toward 68.... OMG but I do miss playing!
-
45. Just got bifocals.

Just got varifocals here :)
-
27 here. Was 26 at the time of the announcement. I routinely would play and RP with those older than me. The oldest person I directly interacted with on a consistent basis was 45, but I knew some others who were older.
-
45; same as my twin. Odd coincidence.
-
Been in the same age group almost the entire existence of the game. :p
-
As old as dirt here - and I feel happier knowing there are so many of us grumpy old geezers in rocking chairs on the porch muttering about ye goode olde days :D
-
It just goes to show you what we lost. A community that spans all ages pretty evenly. You don't see this kind of thing very often.
-
I'll be 53 in about a month (but currently feel much, much older).
-
In the top of the top level.
-
I'm 52. I knew plenty of players who were older yet. Many of my friends who played were 30s to 50s and a couple had moms in their 70s who played CoH. In a couple of the SGs, the parents had kids who also played, ranging in age from 11 to low 20s. I knew at least two grandfathers who played.
-

And you weren't 10 when you started ?
-

Indeed, this sort of thing isn't all that well-understood. My parents still don't get that people their age play video games, let alone an MMO
-
I've mentioned this a couple of other places, but my son was going to get a paid account for his 11th birthday, last month. He's not here, though. He's thrown himself into Sonic and Ponies.
My Friday night group ranges from 18 to 45, the 18yo being the son of one of the older guys. None of the rest of them are here, either.

My 13 year old nephew played on a free account at the end of the summer holidays, we were going to get him a month's sub over Christmas :(

Well, we're actually all still here, so the community isn't lost - just it's rightful home :P
-
I was 18 or 19 when I started playing. Just turned 27 on Sunday.
-
So, in the Hobbit tradition, you gave NCSoft your favorite game?
(Too soon?)
-
Well, we're actually all still here, so the community isn't lost - just it's rightful home :P
But we aren't all here. All the people I spent the most time with, aren't here. The community will survive here - but it's not whole. It may never be again.
-
45. I'm so freakin' old I remember when Night Driver (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9HUGmAc0Txg) was the most thrilling video game concept anyone had ever seen.
-
I'm 45 too. :P
-
43 years old... at least I am physically...
Psychologically... not so much.
-
My wife doesn't do the forums thing. She's 71.
She missed the game a lot. We played most days I had off from work, and hit 38th level on Plumb Bob and Patroller Pat (one of our many duos) on shutdown day.
-

To grow old is obligatory, growing up is optional :)
-
Level cap is still 50, folks.
Once you hit that number, all you earn is influence. ;)
-
26. Feel like I'm capped at 50 though, except with no inf to show for it. So not too different than the game itself, really.
-
45 here. I'd wondered about this, since pretty much everyone I knew in game was married, and a lot had kids as well. My youngest used to love the travel powers, and I'd set her loose in a mid-level zone with a level 50 fire/kin con and a pack of monkeys. The night before the last day, my wife mentioned that I'd be busy with the game because it was closing (something I'd intentionally kept from my eight year old). She asked me why, which made me a little misty. Damned if I know...
-
Kyle, hey! Moggie here. Glad to see you survived the end. (Not the Moggie from the game guys, relax. Kyle and I go back, Moggie used to be my forum name where we'd met.)
-
25 in my head, but 45 on this earth, which is the only one the officials want me to say. :p
Only 5 more levels to go until I go get my Alpha slot! :D
-

Really? 'Cause I could use some influence... /e panhandle

Holy crap, I didn't even know you were still connected to this game! Awesome. Good to see you, man. :)

Always and forever. :)

I have underwear older than most of you....when I was a girl, the Dead Sea was only sick.
-
Hehe, I just said I wasn't that Moggie.
-
This group makes me feel less like an old fogey than usual - a little less "get off my lawn" and a little more "I should get a red convertible, or maybe a motorcycle!"...
-
I just got an rv

I voted but forgot to post. 28 here. I spent a good third of my life with City of Heroes.

49 here...yup, I will hit the big lvl cap in June. I look back on my years and am so thankful for all the things I've had a chance to do and see, and I honestly don't feel much diffrent from when I was 30, just a few aches and pains in the morning. But heck...I had those back then too, and I just chalk those up to living a very active lifestyle. The thing that I have enjoyed the most however, by far, is having come to this great CoH community 6 1/2 yrs ago and getting to know all the fantastic people here through their posts.
-
Not too many in the younger age range... and I think I know why. NCSOFT never allowed a proper budget to advertise.
-

I'm amazed that Under 18 shows 0%. There were plenty of players who were under age 18, some of them in the Super Groups I belonged to. I'm inferring that either they are not participating on these forums, or else do not wish to say they're under 18.
-
45; same as my twin. Odd coincidence.
I don't know man, sounds fishy. I think one of you might just be copycatting.
Not too many in the younger age range...
I get the feeling there were plenty of whippersnappers playing the game itself, they just didn't come here after. You don't value the same things at 15 as you do at 30 or 50. I know that's not an age where I felt anything was important enough to fight for.
-
Ya no one under 18 is surprising. I know those under 18 that I met on the game were a really great bunch of kids. It gave one hope for the future. Been playing a bit on Champions and wow about 1/6 of the chatter is obviously from kiddies who enjoy bashing everyone and everything. Makes me miss CoH even more (as if that's possible).
-
It looks as though you may need to add more categories.. 45-50, 51-55, 56-60, etc. Seems to be a lot in those categories.
I just turned 57 in November.. 5 days before shutdown. We did our last weekly Blueside and Redside CoPs on Virtue on my birthday. :'(
-
45. Just got bifocals.
And get off my lawn! :P
45 and getting my bifocals tomorrow.
I feel old.
My co-workers say it's about time I stop wearing two pairs of glasses.
I say, "Wearing two pairs at the same time makes me quirky. Wearing bifocals makes me old." :P
Ahh well.

An old quote: "I may be getting older, but I refuse to grow up."

To quote a colleague even older than I, "Old is good!" I think it beats the alternative. ;) While I'm not thrilled about the physiological aspects of aging much past the early 30s, I still enjoy getting older. Re: bifocals, you might consider graduated lenses; either way, they do take a while to get used to from single vision glasses. Good Luck!
-
I'm 56! ;)
Hey, if Jane and I call ourselves MILF's will it make us more sexy?
-
My age? Well, Don't Panic folks...I'm always sure to bring a towel. You could say my age is an answer. THE answer in fact, to life, the universe, and everything.
Now, what was the question? ;)
As for "growing up", I have a few quotes for that...
4th Doctor: "There's no point in being grown-up if you can't be childish sometimes!"
Amy Pond: "I grew up."
11th Doctor: "Don't worry, I'll soon fix that."
-
I say, "Wearing two pairs at the same time makes me quirky. Wearing bifocals makes me old." :P
Ahh well.
LOLOLOLOLO!!!!! Nah I say you're still quirky ;)
Ok first off I am on Reddit waaaaaaaaaay too much apparently as I keep looking for the upvote. Second I am 31 and my girls were still a bit young to play really but they loved watching me and are sad they can't watch me play my superhero anymore

-
Well, Yay! Finally someone admitted to being under 18. ;)
-
You know, if I'd known that many players were 'over a certain age' I would have teamed more often than I did: I was always 'ticklish' about it because of the ridiculous frequency and urgency with which I often had to call for 'bio break'
-
I just think it's indicative of our playerbase. Those who are under 18 are much less likely to be as attached to this game as we are. They'd just move on. They wouldn't be here with us.
-
While I know that there were plenty of younger players in game, it isn't hard to believe CoH has a higher-than-average age for MMOs. :)
-

I am not persuaded that the Under 18 players had less attachment or devotion. At minimum, two wrote on a private SG forum about how much City of Heroes and the SG had meant to them. I think it's because few under age 18 are interested in reading and posting to forums.
Besides just the kids, I know of plenty of adults who soon after 8/31 went looking for another MMORPG to provide an experience similar to what they'd enjoyed in CoH. Most are still looking....
-
That's true too. It's depressing logging on Steam and seeing all my old friends already finding themselves at home in a new game. But I don't harbor ill will toward them for it. We all cope in our own ways, and far be it from me to tell them what to do with their time.
-
Is it just me or are the polls look like Stairs?
That's to keep the NPCs from being able to climb them.
-
That's to keep the NPCs from being able to climb them.
Won't that be hard for all these old folks too?
-
Won't that be hard for all these old folks too?
Yes, dear. But I have my walking stick (shillelagh) around here somewhere, and think I can still clamber up them. And ROFL, Triplash on your Abraham Lincoln quote! You've inspired me to add my favorite quote as my signature line.
-

Nah, see, players can climb stairs just fine. It's only NPCs that have trouble with them. :P
And ROFL, Triplash on your Abraham Lincoln quote! You've inspired me to add my favorite quote as my signature line.
Lincoln was a smart man. Very forward thinker.
And I love that line from Gandhi! It's excellent advice to live by :)

I'm 55. Old enough to know better than to play an MMO....

This was hardest for me in the post announcement pre sunset period.
Most of my SG, friends, etc, pretty much stopped logging in. I tried to soak up as much time as I could, which turned out to be fairly depressing given that the city grew emptier and emptier.
But there's no point in taking that out on anyone, as you said :)
-
I'm 55. Old enough to know better than to play an MMO....
I assume you mean "another" MMO.
-
39 - though, every now and then, I have to do the odd mental calculation to check if that's correct.
-
I posted this concept in the FB thread -
Observing the general trend that City of players are older (with a plurality in the 45 - 60ish range):
Perhaps there was something about the game play controls of City that was a bit more forgiving of our not-so-l33t gaming skillz. I have always appreciated the lack of "twitch" needed to target. Personally, I know that video games were something that I saw my slightly younger (5 or 6 years younger) siblings playing, but other than a few games of Pong, I wasn't part of it. I was way too mature to want to play a video game. So I never learned those basic video gaming skills - hand me the average controller for a gaming console and I'm all thumbs, and not in a good way.
OTOH, I can also remember comic book discussions - generally about characters that had personalities that were as much a part of them as their superpowers. And I came to Paragon City to make those characters. I'm still a huge Legion of Superheroes fan, which at that point in time was "90210" with superpowers.
Just a couple of thoughts to put out there. They may also have something to do with the number of older FEMALE players we had (I'm one of them). I know that my general unfamiliarity with how video games "work" was something that had me holding back from subbing early on.
-

I've seen several people who have noted this, and I agree. My motor control isn't always the best, so targeting with the Tab key rocked hard. Some of gthe games people ahve suggested I try out, however, have combat that is twitch-driven, so I've not bothered to install the clients.
Our demographic can't be that small: people who want more action than Farmville, but less twitchy than a FPS. I wonder if any studios and/or publishers will pick up on it?
-
It'll be odd if they don't: After all, the older demographic is growing every day.
I know companies like to pretend that only 18-24 year olds matter though, so I wouild not be surprised to see them NOT address it. After all, sane business decisions are few and far between.

I was in high school when video games ate quarters and became a real thing back in the 80s and I gave up playing them after a few months because I didn't like "twitch" gaming from day one. I've never come round to that form of gaming and still have no interest to do so now.
-
I'm 17 now but started when i was 13 because my brother used to play it 24/7 he taught me about everything in it an his old SG helped me out quite alot, but not surprisingly i don't think i met anyone my age heheh. I was surprised i could even play it! :P
-
I notice whoever did the poll didn't really get quite the right categories. :-)
37 here. Games for me started around Elite, 1984. I'm averse to twitch gaming in something like a spot of first-person shooting - but I don't think it mixes well with network lag to servers in another country. For most of my City of X time I used a keyboard-only control set which was head and shoulders above the default for characters who often wanted to select and use powers on teammates.
-
um....I'm just going to say my age is above 40 :-X
-
OK, because there is an obviously large number of City players above the age of 45, it's better to do a little more granular polling. I have reset the poll to zero votes. Please vote again!
Before resetting, the tallies here:
>18: 3
18-25: 11
26-35: 26
36-45: 37
45+: 45
-
I'm 47 (48 shortly), although I have a mental age in my mid 20's 8)
I miss CoH .....
-
Why was the poll restarted?
Edit: Oops. Missed that earlier post. :O
-
Voted again. Sadly, I didn't get any younger.

So, what you're saying is that you're 47 and a half?
Restart!
(Also, at this stage, the graph looks like a rude gesture...)
-
right now with the numbers that are being reported, it looks like the poll is giving us the finger. :P
-
Thanks for restarting with more ranges. It only let me do 5 when I set it up. You added the ranges I would have done from the start.
-

48 in January.
Time marches on I'm afraid :P

I voted in the poll again. I checked, and I'm still 28. You know, just to make sure.
-
Re-voted :)
-
33. I look a good deal younger when I shave and get a haircut, frequently being mistaken for being either in high school or my early 20s at times like that. Otherwise, I'm told that I "read" a lot older from the folks who know me online.
So take that as you will. :)
-
35 here. But when I was playing I felt a hell of a lot younger. Guess it brings out the youth in all of us. Well, except the ones who are already errr youthfull and stuff.
-
Voted and yes I noticed that there were a lot of women playing, a lot of couples playing, a lot of families wit children playing, a lot of older folks playing. Its the same idiotic mistake I have seen over and over in tv series cancellation. The show *has* a demographic but not the one the big wigs want <growl>. Embrace your community the world does *not* revolve around 20 something men.
-
Voted again. Sadly, I didn't get any younger.
Heh, good joke, Triplash. I also added myself to the polling data.
-
One of the older folks in my SG here - 9 years in Everquest where Aleksandros was "born", 4.5 years in CoH.
-
I voted in the poll again. I checked, and I'm still 28. You know, just to make sure.
Oh to be 28 again... I just turned 30. :P
-
My Tibby-sense tingling also detects that CoH seemed to have a higher ratio of female-to-male players than other MMO's - is this true or just my personal impression?
I wouldn't necessarily say that CoH had a higher ratio of female players to male players, since unless you're on Teamspeak or Ventrilo you can claim to be male or female and there's no real way to tell (aside from the old joke about "maxed breast slider = male player"...). However, what I think was true about CoH was that women playing the game were more comfortable about admitting their gender, as opposed to other games where I've read accounts of women claiming to be men because of the harassment and attitude they got from other players if they admitted they were female. I didn't see players being treated differently because of their gender or age, except on the occasions when a team member would say that another team member was their (typically under 10) child and asked us to avoid overt crudity -- and I don't recall anyone ever objecting to that, either... and the kid would rarely need any help keeping up with the team.
-
Oh to be 28 again... I just turned 30. :P
Quiet, you! ;)
-
I am 23. Most of my COH friends are/were somewhere between the mid-twenties and mid-thirties I believe. I appreciated the older and more mature player base that this game had.
-

Bitter old man with bad teeth and smoker's cough at the ripe age of 29, here.
-
I hate to say it, but I liked the breakdown before the poll changed. Right now, the weight is in the middle. If you put the top three age groups back together, it's more graphically top-heavy.
-

So...you're saying the poll has the classic "middle age spread," hmmm??? ???

Does this survey make me look fat? The server adds like 10 pounds.

There is a block of 18 years at the beginning, and a block of 'X years (averaging about 20 for first-world countries)' at the end. The whole thing is appropriately granular now.
-
Being an 8.5 year vet, I was a lot younger when I started playing.
Conveniently, the 36->45 range covered it all. ;D
I'll be 46 in a couple of weeks. 8)

I moved up a bracket this year.

52 here, and have teamed with a few around the same age bracket regularly!
@dior - firey chick/one man and his dog/lisbeth salander - union
-
27 here (28 in January). I was 19 and in college when I first picked up the game. So much has changed since then - but the City was always there when I needed a break.
-
22 here, Having a hard time finding fun in games for more then a few days with no City of Villains to run around in.
-
Youngest I ever teamed with were sisters, ages 9 and 12...they played better than a lot of older people! (Used their mom's boyfriend's account.) The oldest person wa a 74 year old woman who was SO funny, she kept me laughing the whole time we were team mates.
-
24. Really surprised at the results - I figured most MMO players were teenagers/college kids!
(I think every team I ever played on had at least one person getting kicked off by their kids or spouse though... I guess this explains it.)

City of Heroes was not like most MMOs. Therefore, it drew in all kinds of people.
That is to say, it was almost like the game was in a category of it's own.
:(
-
43 here ..
If the game was still going on, I'm sure I would have retired in it ..

It's also possible that the younger set can move on faster than the older folks (which I'm one of, older that is).

I'm 27 but I already feel like a 50 year old, given that graphic. XD

I still get the references on SNL, but that's largely due to the amount of time I spend on the internet.
-
Most of the players are teenager / 20 yos. But those who care the most and stick with what they love, hence are on the Titan Network to answer this poll, are older. Just look how socially acceptable dumping a girl/boyfriend, or divorcing is acceptable and usual now.
I've turned 25 yesterday, and I'm feeling 40...
-
Someone who is 40 can either feel like four 10 year-olds, or ten 4 year-olds.
-
A few months ago I turned 25...for the 25th time.

35 here.
During a conversation with a fellow gaming co-worker I mentioned how "in my days we didn't have the internet for research. If I had a school project due I'd open up my Encyclopedia Britannica!" He replied, "What's that?". Oh dear god did I feel old...

No need to feel old. Not everyone had that at home at that time.

My mother finally accepted the fact that we weren't going to ever use those encyclopedias and finally threw our set out this summer. :P And they were still in mint condition!
-
Aw, she should have donated them. They might've even been worth something.

30.
I'm very surpised by the poll results. Turns out CoH/V was a mature persons MMO. Lines up with the experience I had playing in game.
-
I hit the 40 this year.
-
I stopped at 39, but I'm 42 right now because I couldn't pass up the chance to be The Ultimate Answer. Next year I'll be 39 again.
It's two comedy references in one!
-
Just turned 35.
Back in high school/college I used to play pen and paper RPGs. D&D, Vampire the Masquerade, GURPS... I played a text based MUD in college, Land of the Lost Unicorn. Then nothing... till I discovered CoH about two years ago (around the time of Going Rogue). I fell in love. And got my heart broken.... :(

Bell curve...freaky.

25 years here.
Guess I'm not the oldest, just sound sometimes like a really, really old guy.
Well guess the life expierence I made so far makes me this :o

Bell curve...freaky.
Yeah, it's almost as if the majority of people statistically answered... (ie, not their real age ;) )

It's the peer pressure, man. It gets to ya. All the magazines and movies telling us we have to be 26-55 to be cool nowadays. And then those 60+ year olds get out there, shooing us off their perfect lawns and flaunting their sexy bifocals... we gotta lie just to compete anymore. It's crazy :gonk:

I'm curious as to how many of the 'older' folks were getting or did get their kids into the game. I was planning to get my daughter a vip account this summer for her 12th bday. She enjoyed watching me play and had ideas for her own characters.
If my suspicion that I wasn't the only one like this is true, then I was figuring there'd be a 2nd generation of CoHers in the next couple years had the game survived.

Well on my side it was planned ;). Not actually the girls of my wife (typical girls - barbies and some unicorn-fly-horses).
But maybe there will be someday a little Ceremonius Jr. And of course he will get my beloved broadsword as soon as he is able to handle it.
But till that day comes, CoH has to run like it's a neverending journey :D.
Actually I would have loved to share the love for coh within my family. Hopefully it will be there...someday :'(

Just turned 54 and would play til I was 94 if they would bring it back. :)

nat, you said it EXACTLY...I'd play until................

38 here. Started in next younger demographic back around I4. Grew up playing twitchy video games, and while I don't mind twitch, I was also used to a controller and maybe 4 or 5 buttons, max on twitchy games.
I recall I could spend an hour plus on a single coin on some games. (As an aside, I was at my neice's b-day party recently, at at kids Pizza parlor with a video arcade attached, and was thrilled to find a few of my old favs available to play. Until I realized that at some point they added a damn timer to a single coin, regardless of if you've even died once!! What a ripoff!) Well, at least I got to be the 'cool' aunt for a while.
I'll admit to this. When I started playing, I mostly played with my SO at the time, and his group of friends, so of course, it was somewhat obvious I was a woman. When we split, I stuck around, he found a new game I guess. In the process, tho, I largely lost my small little community in game. After that, as I was finding a new niche, I did get a bit of slack for being a woman, and decided I'd just play male for while (as I've had to do in some other games), and the problem largely went away. But, after a while, after I found out that that was probably a very outlying case in CoH, and went back to just being me again, and never had a problem again.
Edit: Oh, and Merry Yule everyone.

And, I've moved up a category today! Woohoo! Now we need to restart the poll again.

Been remembering. way back in the day. about 7-8 years ago (I remember being in Hawaii at the time so at leas that long ago.) recall someone I teamed with for a while said they were 68 and retired. That would make them around 76 now I guess if they still played. in any case 68 is the oldest I recall anyone claiming in the game.

Welp, since I dinged 40 last Sunday, I figured it was time to answer this poll. :) Funny that it seems to be the predominant age range...

Well...golden age of superheroes I think.
Under 18 <- Dunno what type of Heroes (a mix of 'em all?)
18-25 <- Ubar funky looking Heroes (would be modern, but modern becomes golden and silver again - you get the idea)
26-35 <- New Age Heroes (bronze and modern crossed?)
36-45 <- Silver/New Age Heroes (bronze and modern crossed?)
46-55 <- Silver Age Heroes
55-65 <- Silver/Golden Age Heroes
65+ <- Golden Age Heroes
If I remember the timeline correctly. Might be different. Please ensure to deliver all rants directly to NCS ;)

46-55 <- Golden Age Heroes

Yeah sorry, had to ninja edit it ;). I made a mistake with Golden Age/ Silver Age. Because everything above 50 in the internets -> Silver surfer* :D

The teams I usually ended up with always asked how old people were because of the types of comments thrown around. Since I usually play a blaster, my snarky ass comments where about the floors of Paragon or the mobs standing on me trying to look at my outfit. ;D
I am 44

I'm 16.
I usually prefer to keep my age hidden in any kind of online interactions outside of social media, since I normally expect others to immediately deem me immature, or not someone to be taken seriously.
However, from what I have read, you all seem like mature adults, so I'll go ahead and share.
I loved CoH just as much as any of you did. I even have quite a history in the game. I started playing back in i7. Yes, that young. It was pretty interesting toy to play with back then, as I had little experience with MMOs. Actually, no experience with MMOs. Thankfully my parents didn't actually realize it was ~gasp~ an online game, as they probably would have prevented me from ever playing it.
I'm excited to see where this project is heading, because I really have been missing the game. It was my backbone game, my go-to game, when other games didn't seem so appealing, or I needed something casual to play during the swim season.
So yes, not everyone who visits the forum or played the game is someone of advanced age. Us young'uns play as well.
-

Fixed that for ya. ;)

Our household has 11, 33, and 42 year old players. I could only vote once, though. ;) I voted for 33 since that's me. Most of my friends in game were older than me, a lot in their 40s, one in his 60s.
-
If the same poll was done around issue 1, I would interested to see the results.
I would expect the majority to be the young. We're quick to jump on new games and don't typically last as long as those older than us.
That, combined with the age of the game (Young vets are now 18+), the fact that most young people never even used the forums, and most have already moved on = Majority slanting towards ~40
It's worth noting all these things; I wouldn't want polls like this trying to justify why City of Heroes didn't appeal to young people. It certainly did, and I would bet even more so than adults in its inception.

*sighs* Fine. I'll make an exception this ONE time.

Darn you, retributive ancient ones!
I kid.

You sure? It's real easy like. We even got us one of them fancy sit-down mowers.

You younguns have it so easy, why I had to walk to school uphill both ways and the magna was still coolng.

I think you (and many other fine folks of lesser years) provide a perfect bit of proof of why I loved CoH so much. Many MMOs, seem, somehow, to be designed such that they encourage everyone, even proud AARPers, to act like squabbling kids. CoH seemed somehow to encourage even the youngest fans to act heroic, empathetic, self-sacrificing, and mature...
Perhaps it just appealed to folks of that personality to begin with, or maybe it encouraged it. Either way, I've yet to find a game that fosters that same attitude.. Of course, my search so far isn't exhaustive, but.....

On a separate note, perhaps the fact that I felt sorta like a youngster is/was part of the appeal of this game. I was often on the youthful side of the bell curve, yet, as a 7 year vet, could pull out all the old 'old and wise' comments as far as things in-game were concerned..
Now I have to go back to being old and dumb in some other game, and that's not all that appealing...
-
I HATE lawn care, but would so do some to get to play with a mower like that..... Assuming you also supplied the ammo......

I have a feeling that the poll will be skewed a bit high because the young folk wouldn't have come here, they are likely already off playing another game and not commiserating here.
I'm 50 BTW.
Agreed.
-
Yeah, most everyone I know in my age group moved on. Even the ones who were initially as miserable as me.
27, for reference.
