.... drive ... signs ... highways ... (picture)
Okay so it's been a while. But this thread's too cool to be done yet, so I'm just gonna put this here. :)
A Short Poem, by Triplash J. Triplash, esq.
Life is a highway, I wanna ride it all night long.
I can't drive 55; I'm goin' out in a blaze of glory.
I wanna rock and roll all night and party every day.
Every girl's crazy about a sharp dressed man.
Then I saw the sign. It opened up my eyes, I saw the sign.
Signs, signs, everywhere are signs.
Smoke on the water, a fire in the sky.
It's better to burn out than to fade away??
Insane in the membrane! Went insane, got no brain!
Break on through to the other side...
Hit the road, Jack, and don't you come back no more.
Now all I can say is that my life is pretty plain.
But always look on the bright side of life;
I'm older now but still runnin' against the wind.
So put me in, coach. I'm ready to play!
If you could read my mind love, what a tale my thoughts could tell.Ok, I couldn't get past the ghost without going off into Hamlet ("But soft! the fair Ophelia. Ope not thy ponderous and marble jaws!" [okay that's Twain's Huckleberry Finn not Billy the Bard]) I would have read your mind, Triplash, but I was afraid it would read like a paperback novel, the kind the drugstores sell. And then again there's darn ghost that makes me think of the Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald, so I decided in lieu of belaboring the point further to post a youtube URL to my fave Gordon Lightfoot song ever (and yeah I like a number of his songs quite well.) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SZySoo0TIT4 Gordon Lightfoot's "Don Quixote" from CD, just as I remember listening to this on vinyl, only without all the pops and scratches. ;)
Just like an old time movie, about a ghost from a wishing well.

I said I wasn't gonna lose my head, but then POP! goes my heart (pop goes my heart)Hey, Triplash; no worries, man, because you know "Hearts of the World (Will Understand)"
I wasn't gonna fall in love again, but then POP! goes my heart (pop goes my heart)
And I just can't let you go... I can't lose this feeling

(As a side note, this was my in-laws' favorite song. Whenever it played, no matter where they were, they would kiss. My mother-in-law passed away 2 years ago this May and dammit, I still miss her. I won the in-law lottery with that woman.)
People...people who need people..
Aren't they called cannibals?I think you are confusing the Streisand song with one (IIRC) the Muppets did wherein they sang "People, people who eat people, are the luckiest people..." and then I think the sketch ended, or Miss Piggy used her Pork-Fu or something.
Anyhow, i am now going to freely associate all this to the musical band, Fine Young Cannibals! Bwahaha!
Loved Weird Al's parody "Amish Paradise""I churned butter once or twice, living in an Amish Paradise.... "

(*cough-cough49cough-cough*) (and this is the last day I can say THAT)
Huckle Buckle Beanstalk!********HAPPY HAPPY BIRTHDAY, MERSEINE!!!!!********* And congratulations on reaching 50th level IRLTM. (Congrats also on not doing the "49 & Holding" routine; that's fine for those who are into it but I think it is even more excellent to simply be one's actual age, whatever that number happens to be.) I feel certain that anyone who plays Huckle Buckle Beanstalk is not limited by mere chronological numbers! Vive la Weird! Despite all the hype and marketing, it's been pretty well demonstrated that while "normal" people are nice enough, often it's the stranger, weirder ones who are even more interesting. Have a BEAUTIFUL BIRTHDAY CELEBRATION!!!!!!!!! (and remember not to stop celebrating!) *wink* [insert here some cool quote by Auntie Mame.]
OK....so now MY family weirdness comes out.
When we were kids, we played a "hide the thimble (or other small object) in plain sight" game that we called Huckle Buckle Beanstalk. Everyone but the person hiding the thimble would troop out of the room, the hiding happened, and then we all came back in looking high and low for the thimble. When you found it, you were *supposed* to wait until you were a bit away from the hiding spot, call out...what else?..."Huckle Buckle Beanstalk!!" and throw yourself on home base (usually the couch). Last one to hit home lost and had to hide it the next round.
What that has transformed into now that my husband and I are not in our 20s any more (*cough-cough49cough-cough*) (and this is the last day I can say THAT)....is that when we're looking for those lost keys or the phone that has run down on battery so you can't just call it to find it....when we DO find whatever it is we're looking for, we say it's been Beanstalked.
No one else understands us, but we do.
And congratulations on reaching 50th level IRLTM.
(Congrats also on not doing the "49 & Holding" routine;
Thanks you guys - you made me ROFL so hard, I was glad the beverage was safely in the cup next to me!
And just to share how I'm spending my b-day: I'm a "book giver" for World Book Night. http://www.us.worldbooknight.org/ (http://www.us.worldbooknight.org/) I gave out 20 copies of Fahrenheit 451 this morning. I did this last year (Wintergirls by Laurie Halse Anderson) and it is SO fun to give out presents on your own birthday. I highly recommend it!
Thanks you guys - you made me ROFL so hard, I was glad the beverage was safely in the cup next to me!BWAHAHA!!!!! 'Twas your Birthday luck that saved you and that beverage from mishap!!!! You may (or may not) be so lucky next time, Hero! ;)
So now that I've dinged 50...does that mean I'm now working on Incarnate missions? 8)Dear Merseine, IRL by 50, if not before, you are TOTALLY Incarnate!!!! Evil-doers had better hope they don't cross your path!! (Conversely, if you are enjoying Red Sided fun, then muahaha! those goody two-shoes Bluesiders had best take care or else hope they don't have occasion to fly into your creatively evil genius designs, either on purpose or by accident!)

Apparently that Pepsi stuff burns when you get it up your nose. :-\There are worse things than Pepsi, you know. Oops, was that my Out Loud voice again?! :D
That sounds really cool! I'll have to give it a try. Shoot, and my birthday's right around the corner too. It's this coming October! :DSoon to be Happy Birthday to you as well, Triplash! Maybe we should start a Happy Birthday thread. Mine's in September. I am hoping Healix will bake me a cake. (Evil grin, since I know Healix has this amazing cartoon graphic of an extreme candle-illuminated birthday cake that appears to put lesser celestial bodies to shame with respect to luminosity.) ;D
Aaand now I have "Same Time, Next Year", the movie, in my head. Guess which part of John's post put it there.Alan Alda! Alan Alda and Ellen Burstyn!! Gosh, I haven't seen nor thought about that movie for years! But I remember thinking it was a really cool film, and so maybe I should watch it again!
/Yes, indeed, the memory is weird in this one...
Speaking of 1973, this song was on the charts that year, even though the movie was a few years before that. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qswm7lHp7oY (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qswm7lHp7oY)I remember that song, Mersiene; and it's just a powerful now as when I first heard it on the radio as a kid. Gosh, "One Tin Soldier" associates so much for me, it's hard to pick just one associated memory, much less one that has lyrical meaning as significant. I mean, just imagine if the Valley people had realized/thought of themselves as the spiritual brothers of the people of the Hill? Ah well, so here is my association in Black & White: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0e4kDXsM6lk
Well of course we need to erase that scary sight by bringing Godzilla on the scene [think of it...Brooke Shields, Chris Atkins, both in loincloths...running from 'Zilla as she stomps up the beach...ah the heart warms] ...and I mean the REAL Godzilla from the movies of the 50's and 60's, not the stupid remake (WHY does Hollywood do remakes?!?!?? Is there NO ONE with an original idea in their head any more?!@?!??!?!???) [/rant, sorry.]Bwahaha!!!! LOVE IT!!!! 8)
I've got a friend who is a HUGE Godzilla fan...she's even got the signature SKREEE-ONK!!! roar as a ring tone.
I have a vision of two tiny women singing, "Moth-oo-rai-YUH, Mothura"

I always thought they were singing 'MOOOozillaaaaaaa' as in an internet browser shameless plug... :oROFL, LadyShin and "MOOOo" reminds me of the "Cold Milk of Justice" as regularly served up one of our own CoH Titans here. (Apologies for my inability to name him precisely, but he's an excellent skier, had his own AE video, and is one of the many wonderful Cow toons!!!!) 8)

I'd be wary of that stuff if I were you. The stores here don't actually sell anything called "Canadian Bacon". It might not be real meat. For one thing, look at it... it's round. Bacon comes in strips, dude. Dead giveaway.
Just to be on the safe side, you should give that package to me. I'll get rid of it for you...
