Title: Guardians Soundtrack Question
Post by: Cinnder on August 03, 2015, 06:11:14 PM
Does anyone know when track 15, "The Great Companion," plays in the film?  Assuming it isn't just a track that was never used in the final cut, of course.

I've watched the DVD several times with the intent of finding this piece of music, and I always get distracted by the film itself and forget my quest till the end credits are rolling.  :)

What I have found said it was unused in the movie.

Well if this will help, this is where "The Great Companion" features in order in the film:

19.) "Escape (The Pina Colada Song" by Rupert Holmes
20.) The Great Companion
21.) "Moonage Daydream" by David Bowie

Thanks folks.

I've seen a couple posts online where people have created playlists placing that track between 'Escape' and 'Moonage Daydream' also, but I've watched that part of the film (escape from the Kyln to arrival at Knowhere) carefully, and it's definitely not played at that point.

However, I could see it as being appropriate for Quill's flight from the Kyln to the Milano, so I'm going to guess that it was written for that scene, but Gunn decided it would be better to continue playing 'Escape' instead, so the track was dropped.

That scenario is how I saw it described, Cinnder.

But... The free soundtrack they gave away only has 12 songs. Did I get screwed?

How does one get screwed by getting something for free?

The soundtrack I bought (not for free ;)) had 2 disks:

A) 12 pop songs
B) 29 symphonic score tracks

I think it was possible to buy one or both disks separately, so maybe that's what you received?

PS; that 12-track one is basically the "songtrack" - the songs used in the movie. The "original score" (described in this thread) are the background soundscapes composed for the movie.
